SwiftFan87
Nebraska coach Bo Pelini doesn't have a complex list of requirements that his freshmen must meet before he decides to send them out on the field during their first year with the program. It's really quite simple. "If there's a guy who's going to come in and make us better, he's going to play," Pelini said. So far this year, five freshmen have met that standard. And it's likely they'll be it. Linebacker Matt Holt, defensive back Mason Wald, defensive back Alfonzo Dennard and linebacker Sean Fisher have all seen time, mostly on special teams. Defensive end Cameron Meredith played for the first time last week, adding depth to the line that lost Barry Turner to a season-ending injury. The Huskers are at the point in the season where only catastrophes — like the Turner injury — will prompt the staff to insert any more first-year players. "There are still some guys who we think are going to redshirt, but if a couple guys go down, they're not redshirting anymore," Pelini said. "You have a pretty good idea at this point. It usually just plays itself out." So it seems that Nebraska won't come close to matching last year's total of 11 freshman debuts, or the 2005 school record when the Huskers played 13. rest here, http://omaha.com/index.php?u_page=3918&u_sid=10438764 Quote Link to comment
Hunter94
just common sense, wouldn't expect anything else from Pelini. Quote Link to comment
HuskerJosh82
Yeah, last years staff wouldn't play any freshman no matter what. Quote Link to comment

shagg
i don't care if they play them or not as long as they're meaningful snaps. i think this was another area that callahan and co. failed in. Quote Link to comment
Zero_Yards
I noticed the Turner part in the article and was wondering if he got his medical redshirt?... Quote Link to comment
kstatehater
Yeah, last years staff wouldn't play any freshman no matter what. What? They played 11 of them. For a total of 15 plays between the 11. Quote Link to comment
Huskerballz
I noticed the Turner part in the article and was wondering if he got his medical redshirt?... He did. He got injured the second game of the season, that's early enough in the season to warrant a medical redshirt. Hopefully he'll come back next year bigger, faster and stronger ready to anchor a young Dline. Quote Link to comment
gamecocks
Doesn't he have to wait until the end of the season to apply for the medical redshirt. He does meet the requirements but I didn't think that the NCAA grants those until the offseason. Quote Link to comment
