Minority Football Coaches

Part of the reason it becomes and issue, and people notice, is that when someone like Prince or Willingham fail, out rolls the BCA with a count of black(not minority, they dont monitor Hispanic or Asian coaches, or the Navy head coach would get counted in the number of 'minority' head coaches) and starts making an issue of it. The idea that colleges are selecting a head football coach on race is just crazy, either way. The administrations want someone who will win. The fans want someone who will win. It just seems to me that most people I know saw these guys get fired and thought the same thing when Fulmer, Bowden, or Robinson got fired. That they were bad head coaches, and couldnt get the programs where they needed to be. Race never came into it. Hell I would love to see a show of hands of people who even knew Kevin Sumlin was black before Prince and Willingham got fired. I didnt. I had never seen a picture of the guy, just knew he coached at OU and got the Houston job, and that Houston has been decent this year.

 

Hell compare Gill and Prince. They were hired the same year, one gets fired, one is going to have the pick of several big jobs, if he wants. Neither KSU or Buffalo went in saying, oh, a black head coach is what we need. They hired a guy who they thought could get the school wins. Plain and simple. One failed, one has done better, faster, than could have been hoped.
