Eric the Red
He's a bit slow to play tackle, isn't he? OT is more about footwork and technique. Hand and foot placement is stressed so much in college. Defense has to chase, offense knows where their going. Link to comment
NamelessHusker
offensive lineman for the WEST COAST OFFENSE are a rare commodity. Either you get an experienced guy or you go with raw talent that you can work with. Usually that raw talent is slower, but they usually absorb the information much better then an offensive tackle who has grown up in a run based offense. Link to comment
Spartness
Isn't the 10-yard dash more important for OLs? Link to comment
StuckinChicago
You would be hard pressed to find a big tackle in the Nfl that ran better than about a 5.2. Some of the smaller ones, or teams that use smaller ones (the green bay packers come to mind) might be a bit quicker, but for the most part, 40 speed is not important to a tackle. You think Dan Vili Waldrop ever broke the 5.5 barrier? I think not. Link to comment
NamelessHusker
Isn't the 10-yard dash more important for OLs? there are a few tests that are important in determining if you want to offer an offensive lineman or not. Some of those include The Angle Drop The Mirror Dodge The Square Drill The Wave The Fold The Pull And the Set in turn test Coaches use those drills more so then how fast a recuit can run in a 40 yard dash or even the 10 yard dash when it comes to offensive lineman Link to comment
Eric the Red
Isn't the 10-yard dash more important for OLs? Probab;t more inportant to a Center or Guard who are frequently pulling or sliding up to a backer in the second tier. Link to comment
Hunter94
still, 5.4 seems really slow.......can a guy that slow have "quick feet"? big guys are nice, but i will take a guy at 275 who can run a 4.9 or 5.0 just MHO....... hunter Link to comment
BigWillie
If Eugene Monroe (#2 player in last years class) had committed to Nebraska, would anyone be talking about his 40 time? He ran it in the 5.5 range. Link to comment
StuckinChicago
I would like to see a 275 lb guy who ran a 4.9 protect the backside of a quarterback from a defense end like adam carriker or jay moore, who are that big and faster. Link to comment
Hunter94
well figure it out for yourself.......did FL, FSU, OU, ND, UT offer this guy? no, big, fat slow guys don't make it anymore, on defense or offense.....they can't react quickly enough.....see any slow guys playing in the SEC? a few, but damn few hunter Link to comment
NamelessHusker
List of Offensive lineman recruits OU has offered and 40 times Jefferey Adams 5.51 Cruz Barrett 5.41 Zack Henderson 5.32 Josh Hawkins 5.4 Daron Rose 5.79 Bartley Webb 5.4 Javon Hayes 5.6 Maurice Hurt 5.75 List of Offensive Lineman recruits FSU has offered and 40 times Cruz Barrett 5.41 Daron Rose 5.79 Alex Stadler 5.4 Kevin Young 5.35 J.B Walton 5.2 Carl Johnson 5.3 List of offensive lineman recruits Florida has offered and 40 times Maurice Hurt 5.75 Javon Hayes 5.6 Kevin Young 5.35 Carl Johnson 5.3 Cruz Barrett 5.41 All teams go after guys who run anywhere between 5.2-5.6. It's not uncommon for a team to offer and have other teams follow with an offer. In fact, Nebraska was the first to offer Meno holt, now look at how many teams have offered him. When you land a top5 recruting class, other teams begin to pay attention of who you go after. Link to comment
