Frank Solich won a NC as a head coach? Why didn't anyone tell me?

When compiling the list I was just copying and pasting the names I was going to use for the different categories. I forgot to delete Frankie’s name from the bunch after pasting it below where I wanted him. My editing team will do better next time. Darn trained Monkeys.

Normally, I wouldn't have said anything. However, I thought you were just trying to stir the pot. Some wounds never heal.

37,

I understand what you are saying. But I still see this glaring 9-7 event. That in itself eliminates any pay raise as far as I am concerned.

At years end we beat no one that was ranked in the top 25.

He did not not beat a top 15 program during the year.

Produced one of the worst offenses we have had in recent memory.

Yes he brought back the defense, but he is the head coach, and is responsible for both sides.

Not meaning to be negative on Bo. I just want what we pay for. He did not deliver it this year. I think he will next year and when he does he gets a good pay raise. If you give him one this year, you will be required to again next year when and if he does his job..

UPDATE: I just received a memo from my editing department and they told me that I should have included Frank Solich in the list of coaches that have won a BCS Bowl game as well as Bill Stewart from West Virginia.

They also informed me that it should be 18 of the 24 coaches that were ahead of Bo have coached in a BCS game not 16 as previously reported.

I better give those monkeys a raise. <_<

I don't disagree with you on Bo's merit..(or lack of?)

But this "entertainment industry" is a different animal than most businesses...Few would care if a president of a company gets hired away after less than a year on the job.

You don't give raises AFTER results..You give them to keep your guy at home.

Lane Kiffin doesn't even have a winning record..Yet..Many seem to be more than willing to pay him big$$$.

Judging by all the sudden decommits at Tennessee..It appears today's recruits don't necessarily play for the school, but are more drawn to coaches.

(Not saying I like it but it is what it is.. :dunno )

It's good we have built in incentives to help keep the staff hungry/goal oriented..I just wonder if we need to also set up a special account that holds big bucks that are only given if say...a coach doesn't leave for a decade or so..

At the start of the 2009 season Pelini was the 25th highest paid Head Coach. Every name ahead of his has more Head Coaching experience besides Lane Kiffin and is a proven Head Coaching Commodity besides Gene Chizik. With the coaching changes that have gone on this year Pelini has moved up a few spots as well. Of the 24 that were ahead of Bo 16 of those guys have coached in a BCS game(s), and 8 of them have won National Championships.

I think a lot of people on here are basing the pay raise based on Gill getting more $$$ from KU than Bo when Gill has proven nothing.

Kansas was STUPID doing that, and Gill would have been nuts not to take their money.

I would like to see the incentives deal, I think that makes coaches hungry.

No question Bo is hungry, and I do not think we have a problem with Bo wanting more money. He is a pretty down to earth guy. He expects the team to work for what they get, I guess he feels the same.

Being recruited by Tennesse by Kiffin and then given the opportunity to go to SC with the coach that recruited you is a no brainer in my mind. Die hard Tenn kids will stay home I guess, and I agree it really has nothing to do with history or tradition any more. It is about how quickly can my selected coach get me on the field and into the NFL..

But again SC is a pretty history and tradition rich program.

I understand why Lane did it, most would I think. Pretty hard to turn down SC no matter who you are. I think Carrol made a huge mistake, but with the NCAA infractions coming closer and closer, who knows.

But I still think we have a coach that is not going anywhere. Ohio State would be the only place he might move to down the road, but as time goes on and he gets us back to where he wants us, the roots will get deeper and deeper. He has young kids and wants them growing up in a safe enviroment is my guess.

Money does not control Bo. He is do a days work for a days wage kind a guy it seems to me. Treat him fair and he will be very loyal.

I think we have treated him fairly, and I can not imagine Coach Osborne not doing so.

IMHO it isn't money that makes the good coaches hungry, just the ones that think they are somebody and turn out to be a flash in the pan that looked better than they were. The good coaches are in a elite club all it's own...well worth being in. But I am sure that they do look at the salaries of other coaches and use that as kind of a scoreboard of sorts. To me, the salaries are more like pre-season polls, very unreliable when it comes to actual talent and ability to produce in some cases, just because some dean and board don't know a really good coach from a mediocre one, or get star struck by some flash in the pan (Bill Callahan).

One case in point is Joe Paterno, he donated most of his money back to Penn State the last few years. He does it because he loves football. I think Bo is kind of like that.

I agree trucker, I do not think money drives Bo. But I do not think we can take advantage of him because of that either.

Bo is more into doing the job right, bringing the fans on board, and then the pay.

I think we have good man running our program. He still scares me occasionally but I feel better about him every single day.
