BaryGarta
Okay, I don't post much, and I am not a Husker fan. I say that so nobody thinks I am a "troll". I grew up in western Iowa during the Osborne years when Nebraska football had a certain class associated with it. I find it interesting that in the middle of the Mount Pelini eruption he actually was quoted as saying (to paraphrase) that he was upset it was on TV. How about being upset you undressed your players and the officials in general regardless of who saw it? Would it be somehow better if it were not seen to treat everyone that way? Interested in the Husker faithful's thoughts on that. Looking forward to having you all part of the Big 10/12. Quote Link to comment
CENTEXHUSKER
I don't read too much into it, pretty self explanitory from Bo. I feel bad if I rip my son a new one if we're at a store or something, more so that it happened in public rather than in the woodshed. Quote Link to comment
Hujan
Welcome aboard! Regarding his remorse that it was on TV, I don't think he meant it like "I wish I didn't get caught" type of thing, but more like "I wish I didn't make this mistake in a way that would publicly reflect poorly on the university and the individual athletes." On one hand, no, Bo is responsible for his actions regardless of whether or not people are watching, that's what you call character. On the other hand, yes, because if it had not been broadcast for all to see on public television, it wouldn't have negatively reflected our university. I'm sure Bo didn't mean it as, "My only regret is that people saw.", but rather as, "I screwed up, and I regret that my actions, and thus this school, were seen in a negative light by so many." bball_backer
Obviously I don't know what happened, but I took this as "Taylor needed an a$$ chewing cause he was out of line, but I realize I shouldn't have done it publicly where it could potentially embarass the kid." Quote Link to comment
zoogs
No longer feel a shred of pity for Taylor for that incident. Doesn't change my opinion on Bo needing to tone things down in general, such as with refs and with rallying rather than putting down his troops at times (Green, right before he threw that pick). But I am actually pretty glad TM got 'dressed down' (lightly) as he did. Even though I'm just starting to become a pretty big fan of the kid. Quote Link to comment

HuskersGJ
Regardless of how Bo meant it, Jack Arute said basically that very thing on Sirius radio today. Unfortunatly I was only able to listen for a few minutes but from the little that i did catch... Arute, an ABC sideline reporter for years, said something to the effect that it's pretty common for coaches/asst coaches to yell at players like that. that the only real difference here was that Pelini/TMart was caught with a "wide angle lens". Did I miss something while I was at work? What did Taylor do to piss him off? at the moment, that question may rank up there with "what is the meaning of life?" 1 Quote Link to comment

That's exactly how I heard it from watching the press conference. Bo didn't apologize for yelling at him, nor for getting caught. He just said it should've been done privately. I suppose part of that is because is so it doesn't look bad. Mostly it's so you don't have everyone asking "What did Taylor do?" and making Martinez look bad too. But I am actually pretty glad TM got 'dressed down' (lightly) as he did. Lightly? Really? He got screamed at, face to face, and his chest poked. If Bo knocked him down and banged his head against the turf, would that be a moderate dressing down? Since I don't know what Martinez did, I have no idea what he deserved, but that wasn't "lightly". And it should've been done privately. 1 Quote Link to comment

I wouldn't blame him if he sued Pelini and quit the team and quit school and needed to be placed on meds for depression! That poor young man. He'll never be the same. He was humiliated in public and quite honestly it was the worst thing I've ever seen in my life. He gets hurt and then yelled at. How inhuman can Bo be? You can twist my words into whatever you want, but it was really stupid of Bo to do that during the game where it was picked up on TV, and shows a real lack of self-control on his part. And Bo himself acknowledged that. Quote Link to comment

To quote Finding Nemo: "Isn't there another way? He's just a boy!" +1 This has gotten out of control. I remember getting dragged around the sideline as my coach had a fist full of my face mask and he was personally escorting me to my spot on the bench. And, my parents were sitting about 30 ft. away. Oh, and that was at Lincoln High in the mid 90's, have things really changed so much? Boo hoo is right. He got his rear reamed. And personally, I would have taken that chewing to a benching any day of the week. Quote Link to comment
Lonestar_Husker
It seems like Taylor effed up somehow and Bo was unhappy. He over reacted in his response to Taylor. I think he knows exressing his displeasure with Taylor's actions in such a harsh fasion in public was not his best option on how to handle the situation. He was counciled on the repucussions of such behavior and hopefully understands that the world is not fair and you have to focus on the team and not berate officials. I fully understand that there was something nefarious with the officiating. That is my honest belief. Let the officials know what you think. Don't just wail on them incessantly. At least get a couple players to block the cameras while you wail. I understand the frustration, but I prefer a focus on the team. Figure out a way to deal with it. Focus the team. To me, it's a chicken or the egg theory. Which came first, the refs started punishing the team for Pelini going ape poo on them, or did Pelini start going ape poo on them because they were punishing his team? That's what bothers me most about this. Everyone who isn't a Husker fan who watched, thinks it was a complete over reaction to a single game. While Pelini was reacting to an entire season of bad calls and a suspicious lack of calls against the other team.. F it. I'm not one of the guys who cares what the country thinks about us. This who;e referring to ourselves and our program as "classy" is so self stimulating and lame. Bo acted the way many of us wanted him to act and I don't think he should be apologizing to Taylor, the league, officials or us "fans" who seem embarrassed that our good names got soiled. Nebula
When Bo said that he was hired to prepare young men for the rest of their lives rather than to win football games, I truly believed his sincerity. I'm a pretty cynical person sometimes. That'll be it for me with the Pelini behavior discussion. This life is a series of mistakes and corrections. I think Bo believes in accountability, particularly as it applies to leadership. I think you saw a guy yesterday who was genuinely contrite and yet at the same time felt like his kids were getting jobbed on the field. I don't think he feels like he should have to apologize for sticking up for his kids, just maybe the manner in which he went about expressing himself. I'm okay with that and think he deserves the chance to grow as a HC. Anybody else ready to move on to Friday, and then hopefully the 4th with me? (As for Taylor's dressing down, when I was nineteen I did things that deserved a far worse reprisal than what Taylor got. Just as I'm sure Bo did twenty years ago, and most of you too. If Americans are getting so soft that we're worried about Martinez after that little dust up, we're totally screwed. It would've been a lot better if it had happened in the locker room, but hey. It happens. That kid could use a little attitude adjustment. Just like the vast majority of teenagers could.) Beat Colorado! GBR! 1 Quote Link to comment
