Rivals reporting the Beck has met with (5-9, 177-pound) Abdullah and that he will visit NU on the 14th. Looks like USC, Bama and the Vols are interested/offering. From Homewood, Ala. He was in the O-D All American Bowl game with 2 INT, 8 tackles and some pass break-ups.

He will play RB or CB, whatever the coaches want him to play. But I suspect he will stick at RB, he played in a zone read offense in highschool, and since D-Train is leaving for Montana State.

Kinda weird how he says if the Skers wow him he could commit but then goes on to say his leaders are USC and Bama.

He would be a great steal this late in the process.

this has committing then decommitting right away upon visit to USC or Bama who continue to press written all over it

Is this a 'fly under the radar' type of guy? I know there's some controversy that goes into start rankings, but you would have think that he's better than the :star :star :star rating Rivals gave him if USC, Bama, NU, Auburn, Tenn, etc. are going after him.

Has anybody watched film on him?

Definitely an under the radar type of guy. He said everything has picked up big time in January. He played in the Offense Defense bowl (both Santos and Turene played as well) and that got a lot of schools interested, Nebraska included. He played DB in that game and that's why he got offers from Bama and USC.

Heard is already N, and will be here soon. I could see Ameer playing DB, at 17-18 he could have another growth spurt in him. Plus his vertical is 38 inches.

:yeah Remember Prince was a RB as well.

I do remember that, and a damn fine one in HS. :thumbs

I'm guessing they're looking at him for CB. We already have shorter/shiftier guys with Green and Heard both coming in as freshmen. I can't imagine loosing a thumper in Tray means going to get a third smaller guy in this class (Heard is essentially in this class). We lost Tevin. Staff obviously wanted another CB. Here he is.

The coaches told him we want him as an RB. Wouldn't be surprised if he does come to Nebraska that over the course of his career he ends up at CB though.

The guy would still probably tower over Courtney Grixby.

He needs a Faruuq or Rauf on the end of thatname. Oh, Rauf what Chris Jackson was to the Nuggets was a great thing to watch

Plan B with Heard not making it?

Yes, very much so. Ameer is a must have now, IMO.

Agreed. Thinking the c$%ks will be the biggest threat here. Bama just got the Michigan decommit at the Army AA game, so they're out. If all goes well this weekend with him and his teammate. All we really need to do is survive the venom that the ole ball coach will throw at him.

South Carolina is a threat, but USC might get his last visit and they are number 2 behind us. If we do not wow him enough so that he forgets about USC it might get a little more interesting down the stretch with Ameer.

I'll tell ya what happened here. Knowing that he liked the GameCocks and what part of the country he was from I always had USC in my head as Univ. of South Car. My bad. Never really put a ton of effort looking into this kid prior to the Braylon events and always had it that way in my head. I can adit to a screw up, MY BAD.

Now this is a larger threat probably because the Trojans do not have a true RB in this class. I am thinking D'Anthony Thomas fills that spot but he is smaller than Ameer. Now talk about having to survive venom. Lane Kiffin probably can make Steve Spurrior look like and alterboy.

No way aspeedlin, the big old MY BAD was me proving that I can admit my eff ups no way was it intended towards you. I am more disappointed in the fact that I never really looked into the kid, who is visiting so interest is there, until the whole Braylon situation. I was just rolling on perception instead of reality. I can admit when I am wrong, but hate looking like an ass.

Sounds like Alabama is slowing backing off of Abdullah. Abdullah will be in Lincoln this weekend with teammate Aaron Earnest who just might get an offer from the Huskers.

At this moment both Nebraska and USC are tied but very well could commit to Nebraska this weekend or next weekend when he visits USC.

Had a GREAT visit and might not be taking his next scheduled visit to USC. Wants to talk with his parents at home before making a decision.

well that is consistent with what he said earlier..... truth me told it made me nervous but the talk of not visiting USC gives me hope... i guess this kid is pretty excited about Nebraska (why not right!?) and being the one of the top ten kids in ALabama certainly speaks volumes about the kids potential......

really hope we get him!!!

keep us posted (i.e. the infamous 9 out 10 or 10 out of 10 ranking standard)

Apparently their only allowed so many visits because of their recruiting restrictions. Really hope he doesn't make it.

Whats the deal w his rivals rankings? They have him listed as the #9 athelete but only 3 stars. Are they re-evaluating him or did they just mistype his info?

Rival's ratings are all goofy. Bubba is the number 7 athlete overall (I did not even realize that Bubba was an athlete now) but rated 112 nationally. While Colt Lyerla is the 11th athlete but 87th nationally. That just doesnt even make sense...

Latest on Abdullah from Husker Extra:

RB recruit taking long look at NU

With news that Braylon Heard still has a little work to do to qualify, the Huskers surely wouldn't mind adding a running back to this recruiting class to go with Aaron Green.

So it will be interesting what decision is made from Ameer Abdullah, a 5-foot-9, 180-pound running back from Homewood, Ala., who visited Lincoln this weekend.

Joining him on the trip was his high school teammate -- wide receiver Aaron Ernest.

Abdullah has an impressive list of offers on the table: Nebraska, USC, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, a host of others. And at this stage in the game, with signing day about two weeks away, he's one of the best RBs still out there to be had.

Scout.com ranks him 57th among running backs nationally and Rivals.com ranks him ninth among all-purpose backs.

Abdullah seemed to leave Nebraska with a favorable impression. The running back said he enjoyed his visits with Bo Pelini and running backs coach Tim Beck.

"Coach Bo said he liked how I play and how I can cut on a dime and just make plays," Abdullah told Scout. "He wants to bring more speed to the program, so they can help Taylor (Martinez) and the offense make more big plays.

"I really liked what he was telling me and the direction the program is going into the Big Ten. I feel like with the offense they're bring in, they should go into that conference and do big things."

The running back said he also likes the passion fans have toward the Husker team

"I liked the vibe of the city," he told Scout. "It was like everything revolved around football and as a player that's the kind of environment you want to be in."

Abdullah does have a visit to USC planned, but said it was possible that might not occur if he were to commit to another school before that scheduled date.

With Roy Helu graduated and Dontrayevous Robinson having transferred to Montana State, running back is a spot where the Huskers will need to build some depth.

Montana State made Robinson's transfer to its school official last week.

Robinson told the Bozeman (Mont.) Daily Chronicle Nebraska's new zone-read system was the main reason for his exit. He also is very close to Montana State's quarterback and former high school teammate, Denarius McGee.

"That's my brother right there," Robinson told the Daily Chronicle of McGee. "If you ever ask me about him, that's what I'm going to say, so you should just start

calling him my brother."

USC just landed RB Amir Carlisle (who has switched from Stanford) which could mean good news for us with Ameer Abdullah. These two seem to have similar profile and make-ups as athletic all purpose backs. Perhaps USC landing a similar recruit for their class means Abdullah does not need visit them and can commit to us. :)

He's the the #9 all-purpose back but they moved him to athelete under his profile so it shows him as the #9 rank but it's still for all-purpose back.

"The probation thing worries me," Abdullah said. "There's the talk of grayshirts for some recruits. They can only sign 20 players and they already have like 24 commitments. I like the weather and the tradition. That was my dream school when USC was in their prime. Everyone wanted to go there. If it wasn't for that probation I'd have jumped on that USC offer. This recruiting stuff would've been over with."

Abdullah plans to decide soon.

"I'm not one of those attention guys," he said. "That's not me. I'm not a guy about picking hats. My thinking is those guys that make the schools wait until signing day just do it for attention to string everyone along. That's not me. That's not the way I was raised."

Alabama Newspaper

Nice little drop in the artice from Ameer about our future offensive plans.

I like this kid based on the quote above. I hate this drawn out picking the hat BS. It strings along schools that are looking to round out their final spots. I believe the networks are behind this hype too. Look at the allstar games and how much of their coverage is picking a hat BS.

AA says we lead. He is going to take his USC visit this weekend then decide right after it. Bo will be in-home this week as well. Basically down to USC and Nebraska. The sheer face that we are recruiting him as a RB makes me think we win this battle.
