Ron Brown to stay

Recommended Posts

Well it looks like the rumors about Ron Brown retiring were false. From what I've seen, he hasn't slowed down a bit, the guy is hardly ever home! He works out daily and looks like a guy half his age. I think this is good news for the team, as he adds an element that helps define what makes Nebraska such a special place, and players (as well as recruits and their families) recognize that.

Maybe take over recruiting corrdinator duties as well as WR coach, RB is one hell of a recruiter.

Especially with the current state of college football, it's become such a dirty business. Ron's approach seems to really ring true with a lot of the types of kids we are looking for, that are tired of the way things are done at places like USC, (or anywhere Lane Kiffin has been) or the entire SEC for example.

Without Rob Brown, who knows how Aaron Green recruitment wouldve gone. Alot of kids gravitate towards a "father" figure like a Ron Brown. His honest and guiding recruiting style is probably a nice change of pace to the normal slim ball technique perfected by the SEC, and some Pac-12 teams.

No doubt I was worried when I heard Brown could be retiring this year. We'd already lost one of the player favorites when Ekeler went to Indiana, so losing the other most likable coach would've hurt our players that much more. IMO it is important to have coaches like Brown (and Ekeler) who are able to really relate to players and what's going on in their lives.

Needless to say, I'm glad Brown is staying on board, irregardless of a position change.

Maybe i'm wrong here, but I have always thought that you don't want to have your best recruiters being the coordinator. They are much more behind the scenes and don't get as much action...I want RB out there.

Your recruiting coordinator can still go out on the trail, Gilmore did, but he was more along the lines of recruiting to his position duties (WR's). A recruiting coordinator does alot of the background work such as schollie numbers, setting up official visits, setting up unofficials, etc. I think Ron Brown would do an excellent job at that part of the job.
