NUance
Top Players in Big 12 HistoryFoxsports.com 1. Vince Young, Texas QB 2. Ricky Williams, Texas RB 3. Eric Crouch, Nebraska QB 4. Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma RB 5. Jason White, Oklahoma QB 6. Colt McCoy, Texas QB 7. Sam Bradford, Oklahoma QB 8. Ndamukong Suh, Nebraska DT 9. Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech WR 10. Graham Harrell, Texas Tech QB … LINK 3. Eric Crouch, Nebraska QBCrouch shifted the Husker option attack into high gear during his time under center. Although he was an excellent rusher, Crouch showed his versatility by becoming only the third player in Division I history to rush for 3,000 yards and throw for 4,000 yards during his career. Crouch even caught a touchdown pass in a game against Oklahoma that turned the game for the Huskers. Nebraska reached the BCS Championship Game in 2001 and Crouch took home the Heisman. (Getty Images/Elsa) 8. Ndamukong Suh, Nebraska DTOne of the most dominant defenders in all of college football throughout the past 25 years, Suh looked like a man playing amongst boys in Lincoln. He broke out as a junior in 2008, tallying 7.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss. Suh’s 2009 season was legendary, and his performance in the Big 12 Championship Game almost single-handedly won the game for the Huskers. Suh destroyed the Texas offensive line with 4.5 sacks. He finished fourth in the Heisman voting and went on to become the second overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. (US Presswire/Matthew Emmons) The list seems kinda heavy on QBs. Like any cf award list. knapplc
The only players I have a real problem being ahead of Suh are White and McCoy. Both benefited greatly from the players around them, while the rest of the list from Young to Suh were phenomenal regardless of the players around them. Quote Link to comment
Malth
Suh really should be higher. Quote Link to comment
REDSTEEL
Yet, I would take Scott Frost over Eric Crouch as a Nebraska QB during the Big Twelve era. Quote Link to comment
Paul in WI
At first I couldn't believe the omissions on the list, and then I realized that they were talking about after the formation of the Big 12. They should have waited to do the list until after this year, and it could have served as a postmortem. Quote Link to comment
flatwaterfan
Here's a list of all the player of the year award winners. I would think a top 20 from this list works. Surprised that 2 time winner Grant Wistrom didn't make their list as there has never been a repeat Defensive player of the year other than GRANT. I also would say I don't agree with the player of the year list either as I don't see how Mike Brown, Bishop and others can't be on it. I mean really, would you rather have Ahman Green or Troy Davis??? 1996: Troy Davis, RB, Iowa State 1997: Ricky Williams, RB, Texas 1998: Ricky Williams, RB, Texas 1999: Major Applewhite, QB, Texas and Eric Crouch, QB, Nebraska 2000: Josh Heupel, QB, Oklahoma 2001: Eric Crouch, QB, Nebraska 2002: Chris Brown, RB, Colorado 2003: Jason White, QB, Oklahoma 2004: Jason White, QB, Oklahoma 2005: Vince Young, QB, Texas 2006: Zac Taylor, QB, Nebraska 2007: Chase Daniel, QB, Missouri 2008: Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma 2009: Colt McCoy, QB, Texas 2010: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State [edit]Defensive Player of the Year 1996: Grant Wistrom, DE, Nebraska 1997: Grant Wistrom, DE, Nebraska 1998: Dat Nguyen, LB, Texas A&M 1999: Mark Simoneau, LB, Kansas State 2000: Casey Hampton, DL, Texas 2001: Roy Williams, DB, Oklahoma 2002: Terence Newman, DB, Kansas State 2003: Teddy Lehman, LB, Oklahoma 2004: Derrick Johnson, LB, Texas 2005: Nick Reid, LB, Kansas 2006: Rufus Alexander, LB, Oklahoma and Aaron Ross, DB, Texas 2007: Jordon Dizon, LB, Colorado and Curtis Lofton LB Oklahoma 2008: Brian Orakpo, DL, Texas 2009: Ndamukong Suh, DL, Nebraska 2010: Prince Amukamara, DB, Nebraska Quote Link to comment

The list is so heavy with QBs and RBs that some of the great defensive players and O-linemen are bound to get left off. Quote Link to comment
flatwaterfan
Good point about the OL. They got snubbed. Quote Link to comment
T_O_Bull
Adrian Peterson was, is better than Rickey Williams. Sam Bradford better than Colt McCoy. Suh is obviously the cream of this crop. Dominant in college and it looks like he will be in the Pros too. T_O_B Quote Link to comment
