Occupy Wall Street

First johnyrogers20 shows up here at HuskerBoard.

Being the only member of the HP "Troll Patrol", he gets involved in conversations.

Yossarian shows up, and conversational tones start to go down hill.

Now with HuZkurZ (Bronc) here, this folder will get trashed.

This is a warning to the mods and participants here, don't let them trash your site.

Replying to your quotes is trolling?!? We just reply to your progresssive slant with a conservative view point. If you take that as trolling then you are the biggest troll out there. The mods should be watching you. :ahhhhhhhh

We appreciate the warning. No, they will not trash HuskerBoard.

No we won't, we didn't trash any board and have given him rather well thought out posts. He is a progressive and does not like to hear our side. He is not use to that because the media reinforces his view point all day long and to hear otherwise is so out of the ordinary that he can't fathom other people do not think like him!! Of course he doesn't like fow news as well. :dunno

I'm curious what the plan of the Occupiers is when the snow starts falling. New York City isn't exactly an hospitable place to camp out during blizzards.

I've spoken to an organizer, and there is an effort to design and produce a line of low cost outfits that are water/wind resistant on the outside, and insulated on the inside.

You mean something akin to what we call "parkas" here in Nebraska?

Did you even watch the video? That dude is drunk or on something. He slurring and seems to be a little slow. He appears to be the only person that is standing up to a police line. That being said, he probably isn't listening to what he is being told to do. I can't speak for the severity of a spleen injury, but I can imagine if you're resisting arrest it isn't that unthinkable. I had a teammate in high school that ruptured a spleen while blocking someone.

You make a few assumptions - that he's drunk, a little slow, he's not listening to what he's being told, and that he's resisting arrest.

Logically, straight out of KETV 7 playbook, they find a friend that tells you how great of a guy he is. KETV always finds the friend/family of a young gangbanger/dope slinger that was just on the verge of turning his life around before he got blasted. I'm not comparing a war vet to a drug dealer, so don't make this something it isn't.

A "playbook"?

I wish people would stop throwing around the war veteran card like it somehow gives you the right to act like an ass. (http://www.huskerboa...ine-vs-30-cops/)

Support the troops... except when they turn out to have liberal ideals.

I have read the terms of use, agree with them, and am abiding by them. I have not called anyone names (like jack-booted thugs, or troll patrol), and I don't intend to "trash" this site. If I cross the line (mistakenly or otherwise), I expect to be warned and I will mend my ways accordingly. It's that simple.

When you say "support the troops..." what do you mean exactly? I support them by giving money to the USO and the Wounded Warrior fund. If a GI betrays his country by revealing classified information that he had sworn to protect, I do not support him or his kind. I served a lot of time in the U.S. military and ran across liberals, conservatives, and everything in between and beyond. Granted, the military attracts people who are more conservative and who respect customs and courtesies (particularly when it comes to the flag), but unless someone is violating the UCMJ, I never consider it my business what someone's political beliefs are/were.

So, here's the deal, why not give $100.00 to the USO this Friday, Veterans' Day? I already have. You see, veterans really don't want you to thank them for their service. All they want is to be given what they were promised. The USO, on the other hand, does a lot for GIs that is greatly prized. Among other things, they offers a military traveler a cup of coffee and a place to go and relax in airports. Believe me, nothing is more comforting than to see a smiling face and get a good cup of "joe" in a strange, faraway place. I was kidding about the $100.00. Give them anything - $5.00 would be greatly appreciated. And that is "supporting the troops."

Going into war with a clear mission.

Not staying around in a shootibg gallery after that mission has been accomplished.

Having the right equipment to do the job.

Having the proper protective gear.

Support for family back home (home evictions is not support).

Proper veterans' care.

Job opportunities when they get back home, other than Blackwater.

That their civil rights be protected, along with those of other citizens.

They be given due respect for their patriotic and sometines heroic service.

we are very negligent on this issue. Support their families is important also. The home evictions is fuzzy though, how are they evicting them? Are they not paying their mortgages are they not gettingtheir checks to their families what is exactly happening? :dunno

I'm talking about you, not the US Government...that is, unless you are actually providing equipment to the troops.

1) I pay taxes.

2) I vote for candidates that that will support the troops from a governmental role.

3) I post on various message boards in their support.

4) My church/fellowship has various charities that help local vets, and I help out occasionally.

The "black block" people in the video are disturbing. They are the ones we all saw throwing paint on the Whole Foods and breaking the windows of Wells Fargo. However the "occupiers" that stood up to them are awesome and I hope they keep out the "bad guys". I like the black guy around the 3:30 mark that goes all Ninja Turtles on them! :thumbs

During Tuesday's Occupy Oakland General Strike, the so-called "Black Block" vandalized stores and buildings as peaceful Occupiers try desperately to stop them. [Caution: Strong Language--NSFW]

Guest Editorial by Sara Robinson, Senior Fellow, Campaign for America’s Future

I wish I could say that the problems that the Occupy movement is having with infiltrators and agitators are new. But they’re not. In fact, they’re problems that the Old Hippies who survived the 60s and 70s remember acutely, and with considerable pain.

As a veteran of those days — with the scars to prove it — watching the OWS organizers struggle with drummers, druggies, sexual harassers, and racists brings me back to a few lessons we had to learn the hard way back in the day, always after putting up with way too much over-the-top behavior from people we didn’t think we were allowed to say no to. It’s heartening to watch the Occupiers begin to work out solutions to what I can only indelicately call the a**hole problem. In the hope of speeding that learning process along, here are a few glimmers from my own personal flashbacks — things that it’s high time somebody said right out loud.

1. Let’s be clear: It is absolutely OK to insist on behavior norms.

Occupy may be a DIY movement — but it also stands for very specific ideas and principles. Central among these is: We are here to reassert the common good. And we have a LOT of work to do. Being open and accepting does not mean that we’re obligated to accept behavior that damages our ability to achieve our goals. It also means that we have a perfect right to insist that people sharing our spaces either act in ways that further those goals, or go somewhere else until they’re able to meet that standard.

2. It is OK to draw boundaries between those who are clearly working toward our goals, and those who are clearly not.

Or, as an earlier generation of change agents put it: You’re either on the bus, or off the bus. Are you here to change the way this country operates, and willing to sacrifice some of your almighty personal freedom to do that? Great. You’re with us, and you’re welcome here. Are you here on your own trip and expecting the rest of us to put up with you? In that case, you are emphatically NOT on our side, and you are not welcome in our space.

Anybody who feels the need to put their own personal crap ahead of the health and future of the movement is (at least for that moment) an a**hole, and does not belong in Occupied space. Period. This can be a very hard idea for people in an inclusive movement to accept — we really want to have all voices heard. But the principles Occupy stands for must always take precedence over any individual’s divine right to be an a**hole, or the a**holes will take over. Which brings me to….

3. The consensus model has a fatal flaw, which is this: It’s very easy for power to devolve to the people who are willing to throw the biggest tantrums.

When some a drama king or queen starts holding the process hostage for their own reasons, congratulations! You’ve got a new a**hole! (See #2.) You must guard against this constantly, or consensus government becomes completely impossible.

4. Once you’ve accepted the right of the group to set boundaries around people’s behavior, and exclude those who put their personal rights ahead of the group’s mission and goals, the next question becomes: How do we deal with chronic a**holes?
