Hunter and Franklin

Recommended Posts

dedhoarse Hello, I thought for sure that at least one of these two would be redshirting their 1st year so that they would have 3 yrs to play 3 DI football - oh well, it looks like they will both have 2 yrs to play 3 instead (thanks for their stats nameless - it seems like they are playing well & gaining a lot of yards, & with their built 6'2" & 6'3" they should be fine looking targets in 2007 for beck & freeman.

Just think, last year at this time every husker recruiting board was littered with articles & statements on UN's absolute need for 2 key positions: wr & lb - with an absolute need in #'s, size & speed, & there were dire predictions if those positions were not filled with studs:

hunter wr - did not qualify

franklin wr - did not qualify

spain wr - did not qualify

hardy wr - good game vs. maine - lost starting position (slowed by injury)

brooks wr - early knee surgery - has played a few downs

octavien lb - out for the yr - broken leg - played one game vs. maine

moore lb - 3rd string - plays spec. teams

dillard lb - 2nd string - has complained about lack of playing time

covey lb - redshirting

souder lb/s - special teams & has played a little at s

I have a question I was told by a football friend of mine. That if you don't qualify academicly you have to play 2 years at a jc school to go back to div 1 is this true?

No, that's not true. There are a few names i can think of off the top of my head that only went JUCO for 1 year and then went back to DIV-A the following year. It's kinda like the same thing as a prep school in a way.

Under Frank Solich, i would say that 9 out of 10 recruits who end up juco's eventually end up huskers. Under Callahan, it's hard to say. He may opt out for 4 year high school players then JUCO's when it comes to that position down the line.

*UPDATE: Here is who we have coming back

WR Grant Mulkey (1 year left)

WR Issiah FluEllen (1 year left)

WR Shamuc McCoy (1 years left)

WR Terrence Nunn (2 years + redshirt)

WR Dan Erickson (2 years left)

WR Frantz Hardy (2 years left)

WR Todd Peterson (3 years left)

WR Chris Brooks (3 years left + redshirt)

WR Nate Swift (3 years left)

WR Tyler Kenney (4 years left)-Redshirt this year

TE Justin Tomerlin (3 years left)-Redshirt this year

TE Matt Herian (1 year left)-Redshirt this year

TE David Harvey (4 years left)-Redshirt this year

TE Hunter Teafatiller (4 years left)

TE J.B Phillips (2 years + redshit)

TE Clayton Sievers (3 years left)

TE Andy Sandy (2 years left)

TE Sean Hill (2 years left)

TE Josh Mueller (2 years)

Then add into that Mix Tyrell Sprain, Menolik Holt, Mike McNeil and probably 3 or 4 more receivers plus another TE and you could be looking at slim playing time. In my opinion, Franklin and Hunter are looking like possiblities to never end up in LINCOLN again. If they do, only 1 will be taken by the coaches.

Not to nitpick NH, but a few of your numbers are off.

Peterson has 3 years left. He has already burnt his RS last year.

Swift has 3 years left.

You listed Chris Brooks twice with two different set of numbers.

Shamus McKoy has IIRC, one year left. He was a JUCO transfer and played last year.

Teafatiller has played some ST this year, so he isn't a RS canidate.

I am a little confused by your list, or perhaps your implied meaning of what's in parentheses. I thought Peterson redshirted last season? Chris Brooks can't redshirt this year, he has already played and Josh Mueller redshirted for 2003. Just curious, maybe you know something that I don't.
