"Not a true Christian"

Recommended Posts

None of us that are human beings are "true Christians" without Christs sacrifice. In the Bible it states that no one goes before our Maker unless they go through Jesus who intercedes / interceded for us . Humans are one step above monkeys and without Christs sacrifices , our Maker looks at us as just that ; decrepit monkeys (which might explain the HMax crowd on their Cafe )...Not by human works , but by faith ...Through Christs sacrifices ...

And I will step up here and tell you I am one of the most decrepit monkey humans there is here ..

But believe Christ died for my sorry arse ..accept it and appreciate it ..

I'm going to leave out behavior, because that is subjective and subject to judgement by people who still have a "plank in their eye".

This just goes to show that there is no discernable way to say whether or not someone is a born-again Christian, unless you are that person yourself, and even then there is a good chance that you could be deceiving yourself.

I believe that we are saying the same thing. We can define what a Christian is, but we should not be judging others to that set of criteria.

We are the first society to have turned wanton shameless greed into a virtue, those that are able to royally screw others are now the figures worthy of admiration.

We definitely do this. We are definitely not the first.

Ok let me rephrase that, "on this scale" did it happen in other societies? Sure...but I'm not sure it was encouraged to the extent that it is in modern America.

We are probably the most militarily and economically dominant nation this planet has every historically recorded with detail.

We have institutionalized greed, see my post below:

These are the quotes I have on my Facebook page:

Bipartisanship is Democrats and Republicans joining forces to gang up on the middle class.

When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves in the course of time a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that justifies it.

Capitalism is the extraordinary belief that the nastiest of men for the nastiest of motives will somehow work for the benefit of all.

I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.

Democracy must be something more than two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.

I am progressive. I am liberal. I make no apologies. I believe government has an obligation to create an even playing field for all of this country's citizens and immigrants alike. I am not a socialist. I do not seek enforced equality. However, there has to be equality of opportunity, and the private sector, left to its own devices, will never achieve this goal.

There can be little doubt that if we lived in a police state, it would be easier to catch terrorists... but that would not be a country in which we would want to live, that would not be a country for which we could in good conscience, ask our young people to fight and die! In short, that would not be America.

Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.

So have you read the entire Bible ? Just curious ?

This seems to fit my OP

Nope, but I have read enough to know that many Christians don't understand the book they claim to live by. Either that or they willfully discard the parts that don't fit in with their perception of their religion. Like I said before, believe what you wish to believe, but understand why you believe it and where that belief originated - if it is not yours.

All too often the most knowledgeable people on the Bible are ex-Christians.

Here's an article to back that up. http://articles.latimes.com/2010/sep/28/nation/la-na-religion-survey-20100928

Although I wonder if it has more to do with Christians who actually get into the composition and history of the Bible tend to either be liberal Christians or ex-Christians.

It's like the old joke. Question: How do you stop believing in the bible? Answer: Read it.

Here are two very different definitions of what one might use to describe what a Christian should believe.

1) From their Faith, a Christian believes in the creed (which is a version of the Nicene Creed) as professed by their denonination/congregation.

2) They have read the three Synoptic Gospels, and strive to live their lives per the teachings of Jesus.

Those two definitions are very different, but not mutually exclusive.

Having read about 90-95% of the Bible, I'd say that what the Bible really is is not what most Christians think it is. Personal, anecdotal experience.

I listed the two definitions above of what a Christian is.

The first is what most churches teach and is about dogma that had been added centuries later. The second describes what is in the Bible, specifically the three gospels that IMVHO best describe Jesus.
