Husker coach Bill Callahan made that comment both during his weekly television show Sunday night and during the Big 12 teleconference Monday. "We felt very positive in the rotation that if Zac would have gone down, Harrison would've gone in," Callahan said. "We feel very confident about Harrison's abilities." As of last week, Joe Ganz continued to be listed No. 2 behind Taylor. Callahan hasn't directly answered questions about which backup might go into a game first, hinting that it's a game-by-game decision. Taylor has taken every snap this season for Nebraska (5-2, 2-2 Big 12). But Missouri handed the junior some of his worst punishment in the 41-24 loss, sacking him four times and dropping him on a number of other occasions. Beck is NU's ballyhooed freshman from Clearwater, Fla. As it stands, he remains a candidate to redshirt as long as he doesn't enter a game. "He continues to emerge as a top player," Callahan said. "But until you get under the gun and take those snaps with real bullets flying, you can't tell." Callahan: Sooners filling holes Oklahoma has won three of four games as it prepares to visit Lincoln on Saturday. Callahan said he's impressed by how the Sooners have overcome some setbacks, including injury trouble for sophomore tailback Adrian Peterson. "It appears to me that they continue to roll in a bevy of players," Callahan said. "It doesn't matter who's up next - they step up and they step up very well." Callahan said Oklahoma (4-3, 3-1) is doing the same things offensively and defensively as a year ago, "just with different players." He said OU redshirt freshman quarterback Rhett Bomar has upside and potential. "I know his mobility was slightly hindered in that (Baylor) game," Callahan said, "but he can certainly make plays with his arm." Taylor has Humm in sights Taylor needs 19 passing yards to overtake Dave Humm (1,526 in 1973) for the most by a Nebraska quarterback in his junior season. At 1,508, Taylor sits No. 9 overall on the NU single-season chart. . . . Jordan Congdon has made six straight field goals, and now is 12 of 15 (80 percent) for his freshman season. . . . The Huskers have nine interceptions, but still no player with more than one. . . . Neither ABC nor Fox Sports Net will take the NU-Kansas game on Nov. 5, so unless it's pay-per-view there will be no telecast. The Jayhawks have yet to set a starting time. . . . Former NU assistant coach Marvin Sanders' defense did the following as North Carolina stuffed then-No. 23 Virginia 7-5 on Saturday: 199 total yards, no gain longer than 13 yards and the fewest points by a Tar Heel opponent since 1971. WELL THIS WEEK, WHAT I READ THEY HAVE BEEN FLIP FLOPPING ALL YEAR BETWEEN BECK AND GANZ Callahan indicated Nebraska’s quarterback pecking order behind Taylor remains in flux. “Every game’s different,” the coach said. “So I don’t know how that’ll play out this week.” Quote Link to comment

That's pretty hard to do now considering you can't really stock pile scholarship players much anymore. Maybe after a few more recruiting classes we will have some more redshirts. Thats pretty much how I see it, year is almost over, dont waste the eligibilty this late. IMO that Callahan will not take out Zac Taylor if Zac is struggling or the game is on the line. BC has way too much faith in him. Callahan relies on practices rather than game experience to develop players. That leaves just 2 situations - 1) NU actually get far enough ahead in a game that it becomes a rout. Can't see that happening in any of the last 4 games. 2) Zac gets injured. Hope that never happens, but if it does then, and only then, will we really know the depth chart. Quote Link to comment
