Callahan's a LOSER

Recommended Posts

but I look at this team this year and last and I notice a tremendous difference.

A difference in what? About he only difference I've noticed is that we have a different QB. Sure I want us to get better but have we? No.

More quarterback sacks, more quarterback hurries, more tackles for loss, more blocked field goals, more yards on punt returns, no kick off returns allowed for TD's, no punt returns allowed for TD's, Less turnovers. Yeah, you're right, no difference. :sarcasm

And yes, these coaches know more than you or I, and I think that has already been proven.

You want to explain how it has been proven? Was it by letting teams run up the score in the first half and almost catching up with them but never could? Seriously, if you can explain this I would like to know how it has been proven so I can judge for myself if it has. As of right now though, nothing has been proven except that we can mount a decent, inevitably futile comeback

Wow. Perhaps you should have held your hand a little higher 2 years ago when NU was looking for a head coach. You honestly think you know more than someone who does this 90 hours a week?

Ok, here is an example to kind of step back and show you the ridiculousness of what you just said:

A surgeon works in an emergency room. A accident victim is brought in with severe leg injuries. The surgeon can not save the man's leg, but sustains his life. You call the doctor an idiot because based on what you saw last week on ER, you could have saved his leg. Therefore, you know more than him. :rollin

Thanks man, I needed a laugh on a slow day at work. :thumbs

We mods have to stick together :) I'm not diabetic so sugar coated is good. Great wife and kid.

I love the way the word realist is bandied around on both the pro and con side of this thread and others. Patience is another that comes to mind. All the experienced people on the board (me, AR, etc.) remember when TO took over and heard great wailing and gnashing of teeth then also. It is absolutely true that history repeats itself.

TO is not a loser and I do not believe BC is either.

Always and forever,

GBR

And I'll hold you to that prediction about Ohio, Nameless. He's got 4 this year already with 3 games left

Ok, let me make it clear what i am talking about before people make assumptions. If Frankie London..err Solich continues to play teams like NorthWestern, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, he will never make 7 wins. If he does what Snyder did at KSU and starts scheduling teams like San Jose St, Idaho, Florida International, Florida Atlantic, Middle Tennessee St, La Lafeyette, Troy, LA Monroe, Temple, Arkansas St, DIV-AA teams for non conference opponents to go along with MAC conference teams Buffalo, Kent St, Ball St, Eastern Michigan who are a combined 6-25 this season then yeah he will make 7 wins each year.

But what about the offense? Overall it's worse. But I will give you that turnover thing. As I was looking at last season's stats, I didn't remember how many interceptions we threw. 10 less turnovers through 8 games is a big improvement. I just wish the offense could move the ball more.

Also, Cory Ross has a QB rating of 581.2 this year. Maybe he should start under center this week. :)

Hey Utah why weren't you ever around when we were winning this year?  You show up when we start to struggle.  Just asking.

Just asking? I wish that along with the backhanded sarcasm, you would actually address what I say with some points. I enjoy the debate when it actually happens.

Judging by what you said earlier you went to Millard North 89-93. Is this correct? They have made the playoffs every since 95. With the exception of 99 they have won at least two games in the playoffs. They have made the championship each of the last three years. Losing only to propbably the best two Class A programs ever in the state of Nebraska. Lincoln Southeast and Creighton Prep. If I'm not mistaken Crouch was hurt all his Senior year and made it back in time for the playoffs. Now I may not know very much but I'm sure their are plenty of Schools that would take this kind of record.

Here is a question for you. Does Creighton Prep usually have the best talent or is Jawoski the best coach? Since they have won 9 titles and finished second 6 times. I've herad from a lot of people that they recruit their players. A practiced which was stated on here that didn't happen.

Junior brought up Papio LaVista's coach. When did this guy start? He said the hadn't had a winning record befroe him and won state 3 years after he got there. They won state in 90 and 96 but have made the playoffs every year since 85. Except 2000 & 2001.

back to the orignal topic Callahan is not a loser.

You still didn't answer my question. :thumbs

Now that's more like it. I actually attended '91-'95, so my senior year was the '94 season. I have brothers who have played for MN. Many of my friends played for him. My cousin played offensive line for Crouch and was in his class. Everyone I talk to says that Petito gets outcoached on a routine basis. That he'll make calls in key situations that the other team sees coming from a mile away. I didn't know that they had made the playoffs every year since I graduated. Maybe I was jinxing them. But my brother who currently attends MN played for a couple of years there and doesn't think very highly of the coach. Good guy, just blows it when it counts. My point was that with all the talent that passes through MN, a good coach would have more than 1 state title by now.

I never stopped reading the board, and posted a few times early in the season. Mostly that I didn't see what we were getting so excited about by barely beating Pitt and ISU and to comment on some people saying we would win the North. I post when I see something that's interesting to debate about or comment on. As the year moved on, there was more things being written that I want to talk about.

Ross is the boss, most definitely. I wish we could move the ball more as well. Some stats from statfox:

Points for:

2004: 23.7

2005: 24.0

Points Against:

2004: 27.1

2005: 19.5

Turnovers per game:

2004: 3.0

2005: 2.2

Passing Completion percentage:

2004: 48%

2005: 54%

Field Goal Percentage:

2004: 50%

2005: 81%

Above the stats, this is what I have seen this season so far:

LeKevin Smith is starting to back up some of his smack and has had a good season so far(minus that fumble :bang ).

Bo Ruud looked lost when he was in the game last year, this season he looks more comfortable and has made some plays.

Stew Bradley has come into his own, last season he was clearly feeling things out.

Carricker and Moore have stepped up their pass rush. They are playing very well. An upgrade over Crunk Juice.

Corey McKeon came, seemingly, out of nowhere and solidified a position that was a big question mark coming into the season. I like the way he plays ball.

Zack Bowman was expected to be an instant savior, but it has taken him time to adjust. He is now playing pretty well and improving each game.

Nate Swift has benefitted from a redshirt season and has become what the offense needs; a go to guy.

Zac Taylor is a tremendous upgrade over Dailey. I cannot stress that enough. Joe D. was afraid to take a hit and ran scared eventhough he was recruited as a running QB. Taylor doesn't shy away from contact and is tough as nails. Completion percentage has steadily gone up since the receivers started catching the ball more.

Cory Ross, what can you say, the guy is amazing when given the chance to make plays. I am a big fan of #4.

Fluellen's hands seem to be softer this season.

Todd Peterson came out of nowhere and is playing well.

Josh Mueller has played well as a pass blocker when given the opportunity.

Congdon is a huge upgrade over DeAngelis. The kid looks better and better every week.

Barry Turner is gonna be awesome!

Wali Muhammad is a great rush specialist.

Ola Dagundaro has provided quality depth.

About the only thing I see as worse from last season to this is the offensive line and the tight end play. Not having Herian has hurt the team.

The many improvements that I have listed above are the basis for my belief that Callahan is not a loser. Some choose to see the bad, I choose to look at the positives and everything that is improving here. I realize that last year at this point last season the team was 5-3 just the same as this team, but I have confidence that this team won't fold up like a card table like last year. We shall see, but the heart that was lacking last season is there this year.

Gentlemen here is the problem. Every since that fateful day when Chris Brown and the other Colorado convicts handed Big Red that demoralizing loss which led to trip to the NC game and an equally demoralizing loss the mystique, swagger, mojo whatever you want to call it went bye bye. Somehow TO saw it coming long before, well he is TO all knowing one.

I feel our AD is the biggest loser in all this. I mean Houston Nutt was his first choice and even that loser didn't want the job. So after much sifting through the waste he found BC. Sure ill take the job i need one and no one else wants it and lets use The WCO it only takes 4 years for a QB to learn so figure we redshirt him and by his senior year we could very well win the Big 12 north. Your Hired! Duh de Daaaaa......

I am not saying a program can't rebuild or have transitional periods but you can't tell me you haven't watched a Notre Dame and said damn Charlie did that quick For God's sake they beat USC "fix" you know they should have. I don't blame BC for this he was a guy who needed a job. Ask yourself this had he not got canned do you think would have taken the job if SP came crawling?

I said it before and ill say it again John Cooper was one of the best recruiters I have ever seen and he was a damn good motivator. I think he would have fit right in cmon lets dust him off and give him a shot.

Well folks the days of expect to win are long gone and that was before BC came around he has just solidified it, now it is like I hope the boys dont lose to a baylor or a kansas or get humiliated by KSU again. A buddy asked me why I wasn't impressed with the comeback against OU and I said they should have never been that far behind because OU sucks this year. He nodded and said good point.

On that note I think this will be the weekend it all comes together.

:yeah Great post!!

As for the comment quoted, you are totally correct. However, I dont think that Cooper is a great coach by any means. Look at how he got handled by Michigan. Would he have been better than billy c, absolutely, but he is not a great HC.

Nice post, great job getting stats!

That being said, there has been a very, very, very small improvement in the offense, but it has only added up to 0.3 points per game. I was hoping for more.

One thing has improved greatly, the heart adn effort that the team is playing with. :thumbs

It's pretty easy dude.  Find a great woman, have some wonderful kids.  Enjoy what that lord blesses you with.  Most of all don't take a game that YOU don't have ANY control over so seriously.  Realize there are bigger things then Husker football.  If you do these things you can enjoy the sugar coated life I live.

:yeah

Thank you. :worship

Finally.... someone with perspective. I've said it before, dedhoarse I'll say it again. IT'S A GAME PEOPLE!! It fun to talk about, predict and compare meaningless stats about. But in the end it's still a GAME. dedhoarse Be thankful we get to participate in our own way and support the effort these kids put out out every week for YOU, the FAN! :cheers
