Lyons in the Sea of Red.
Purdue also has a new facility opening next season. Either center field is going to be a bomb or they are going to have to put a big ass wall in right. Those are some funky dimensions. Quote Link to comment
HuskerHacker
when I first saw the pic I thought the exact thing. Quote Link to comment
Blackshirt316
While it only will seat 1500 Purdue's field is heading in the right direction. It will allow them to host regionals at home in the future. There are some good things happening with baseball right now in the conference. If the commishioner's office would get with the program and make a few small but nessesary rules adjustments the BIG could be very competitive in the future and at the very least rise above mid-major status. That said, it doesn't matter what facilities look like or how solid teams become if 500 people are showing up for games at those schools. The fact that Nebraska in 3 weekend homegames routinely is outdrawing the entire rest of the Big Ten weekend schedule is simply pathetic. Quote Link to comment
VectorVictor
I agree, Blackshirt. Nebraska can be (and perhaps is already, to some degree) a catalyst for change in the B1G. But the biggest impediments to baseball competency in the B1G are (primarily) the hypocritical scholarship restrictions the conference places on itself. No other sport has similar restrictions or subsequent penalties in the B1G. Hell, some of the B1G basketball teams would be in low single digits for scholarships if they had to adhere to the same restrictions as baseball. :-| At some point, this is going to come to a head, especially if northern schools can get a later start date and/or an elongated season--the B1G really has very little to broadcast live, save for baseball and softball, during summer months, and live programming is what draws ad revenue. Improving the quality of product the B1G produces and putting it live on the BTN moreso than it does now will be a great way for them to make cash on this sport--it's just a matter of the B1G looking for ways to improve revenue during summer months.
