We are excellent on offense 5 years with defensive minded guy and defense is our problem...

I don't think a lot of you guys are taking into account how much switching conferences has hurt the defense. We didn't need linebackers in the big 12 and we recruited a different kind of DT for that league. Bo has addressed these issues in the last two classes. I'm sure some of you here might remember the 90 team. Everybody was pretty down on the team. Osborne made some adjustments with the defense. I.e. switching to the 4-3 and recruiting more speed. 3 years later we were playing for a national title. When your winning 9 or 10 games a year you aren't far away from getting to that level again. It might be different if we were 6 - 6. Bo is a good football coach and with some patience he will get this thing turned around.

+1 I think the transition was harder than anybody thought it would be.

So the conference transition is what prevented us from winning the last two bowl games?

Conference transitions don't result in multiple touchdown beat downs in big spots. If T.O had switched conferences he still would have been playing for titles. What conference you play in should not dictate your style of play. We should be fielding top notch athletes that don't care who is lined up against them. SEC teams could win in any conference. Why should we settle? We need to open up the checkbook and take the Ferrari for a spin.

So the defense that you run and the players you recruit for it are no different in the BIG than the Big 12?? So you run the same defense against Mike Leach as you would Mark Dantonio. Guess again.

We should be recruiting players that will allow us to compete for MNC's. If that is your goal then it doesn't matter what conference you are in. You need players/scheme that allow you to beat/ compete with everyone not just you conference. This is why the SEC dominates. They understand what players/facilities/coaches/money it takes to win on the national stage, no just regional.

NU has lost the vision somewhere along the last 10 years.

Are you implying that the players we have on the roster couldn't have beaten one of the better SEC teams today??

Pretty sure Osborne didn't have top 5 recruiting classes every year. Lots of teams win without great recruiting. Callahan was a used car salesman that lied to recruits to get them on campus. Over signed his classes and still couldn't win. Just a flat out terrible coach. A lot like Mac Brown. Great recruiter, terrible coach. Bo was able to take his talent and make winners out of them. Does Bo have it all figured out yet. NO! He doesn't. But he is a FIRST time head coach. Would Osborne be any better after year 5. I doubt it. Would you be calling for T O's head? You can put all your eggs in the recruiting basket but I hate to break it to you. We are never going to consistently compete with warm weather schools in recruiting.

I don't remember TO losing 4 games in a year or giving up 650 yards in a game or giving up 70 points in a game. NU can compete in recruiting. Our fans are the best in CFB. We know the recruits names and chant for them during visits. We sell out every game and every game is a major event. This impresses recruits. NU has world class facilities. NU has a system that ensures athletes graduate. NU is the only major university for miles (sparsley populated but sill a positive). I would say the NU offensive players today were better than Georgia's with the exception of the OL. NU just needs a better defensive scheme.

So let me get this straight Billdozer. You don't think what conference your in dictates how you recruit? We were putting 1 linebacker on the field in the big 12. Now we are playing 3 most of the time. The SEC doesn't worry about it because they just yank the scholarships of the kids that aren't working out. Classy move by the way. When did we become so entitled that 9 and 10 win seasons are grounds for firing a coach.

EZ-E: yes, do you think we could beat Alabama/Florida/LSU? (I would have replied directly to you post but iPads suck.)

BRV: if you want to be the best, you need to coach/recruit the best. Do you think any team that loses the national title turns and says "we'll it's just the conference we play in"

The SEC wins because they do what is needed to win not only in their conference but in the nation. Also this idea of being nice is why we will never return to prominence. Society and football has changed we need to change with it. The SEC has changed with it the best and we see where they are.....

It is too difficult to learn which results in "if one player makes a mistake it goes for 6". This also causes Bo to play less athletic players that understand the scheme. I prefer a simple defense that turns players loose to wreak havoc.

The team that we just played neck and neck with beat Florida. Michael Wilbon awhile back at the NW game said that Nebraska was as big and athletic as most SEC team. His point was spot on today.

The penalties on offence 3, 15 yard fouls and a few 5's in there to stop drives killed us in the second half. But the fumble after we got the first down leading by 8 and driving was the turnning point, we never got it going again on both sides of the ball. In otherwords defence is not 100 percent to blame for the loss.

I understand what you are saying- we had some adversity on the offensive side of the ball when it hurt. But, when you give up 45 points, it is a defensive problem. So, maybe not 100 percent but at least 95%. 31 should be enough to win any game.

Wow, talk about not knowing what you are talking about. The part that I bolded is a flat out lie. He never oversigned, and the only class that had over 25 was 2005 and that was because the coach that put this school in the crapper in the first place left him 5 recruits and he was only able to sign 13 kids in 2004. So it was no woner that 2007 was a bad season, but if it were Bo, a lot of you would be making excuses for him. It's uneducated posts like this that make the saying that "nebraska fans are the smartest fans in the country" a flat out lie.

You can make all of the excuses you want about Bo, but his Solich style of recuriting has caught up with him. You can recruit a top 15 class to Nebraska if you hire compenteant coachs that are willing to put in the effort to do so. As of now, we do not have that, but just because they can't do it, doesn't mean that it can't be done.

And an entirely new front 7 would help. Our LB's are too slow and can't tackle, the DL has been wortless all year with the excption of caveman.
