Spartness
Is this Downing's replacement? “If (Downing) leaves, I hope Coach Callahan calls, because I’d be up there in one second,” Roberts said last week from his home in Columbia, S.C. “I’ll keep my fingers crossed. I’d love to help.” This guy is suppose to be up there with Blake as far as recruiting abilty. Do you guys think Callahan will hire him? Quote Link to comment
husker rob
I have not heard much about him before. I would hope that Callahan would give the job to Blake to keep him here longer. Quote Link to comment
BIGREDFAN_in_OMAHA
Last night the Channel 6 news mentioned that Roberts would be filling the position vacated by Downing. Quote Link to comment
TheKiD
Was this guy saying he wants the recruiting coordinator job? Or do you think he'd be willing to step in another role if Blake got put in that position? Anyway, I haven't heard much about this guy.. have heard his named mentioned a few times though, will have to readup a bit on this guy. But, from the quote the sounds like the guy would be stoked to come to NU, and the more guys we can have on staff like that, the better. Quote Link to comment
NUbeliever
I could be mistaken, it happened one other time back in '43, but I believe we do NOT want Blake to be RC. I believe the RC is NOT allowed to be out on the road to recruit but, rather, stays in Lincoln to COORDINATE all recuiting aspects?? We want Blake to be out in kids' homes as much as is possible. Spartness
All I know is Roberts is suppose to be one of the elite recruiters -- the best of the best. I wonder why Steve Spurier(sp?) didn't retain him. Quote Link to comment
HSKRNOKC
Lemming says he is one of the top 5 recruiters in the nation. He sounds like a great fit. Quote Link to comment
BIGREDFAN_in_OMAHA
Roberts bio includes working as offensive coordinator at Notre Dame (1994-96), he was head coach at Baylor (1997 and '98) then was the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator at South Carolina from 1999-2004. Earlier this year he tried for the Head Coaching job at Sam Houston State which Turner Gill also tried for. Quote Link to comment
HuskerInKC16
The guys on 1620 last night were saying that Dave Roberts said he would be there in a heartbeat. Nice to know we have a great replacement already lined up. Quote Link to comment
Blackshirtsguru
Fill me in. Who exactly is Dave Roberts? Quote Link to comment
gamer
Fill me in. Who exactly is Dave Roberts? "Former South Carolina assistant Dave Roberts already has emerged in speculation about Downing’s replacement. Roberts was out of coaching this season after spending six years with the Gamecocks under Lou Holtz. “If (Downing) leaves, I hope Coach Callahan calls, because I’d be up there in one second,” Roberts said last week from his home in Columbia, S.C. “I’ll keep my fingers crossed. I’d love to help.” " http://www.journalstar.com/articles/2005/1...56135430504.txt Tom Lemming seems to think he's one of the nations 5 best recruiters and actually recommended Callahan to hire him. "Dave Roberts, the recruiting coordinator for retiring Lou Holtz at South Carolina. Lemming considers him "one of the five best recruiters in the nation" http://www.footballscoop.com/archives/2005-01.htm "Midwest recruiting analyst Tom Lemming criticized Davie for not trying to retain former Irish offensive coordinator Dave Roberts, who became coach at Baylor. Roberts is viewed as one of the nation's top recruiters; without him, Lemming says, Notre Dame's past two recruiting classes would have been comparable to those of Purdue or Minnesota. Lemming also says many top recruits canceled visits to South Bend after Roberts departed." http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m120...221/ai_19084165 "A final word from Tom. He predicted that Bill Callahan will be the new head coach at Nebraska. He is looking to grab off some of the top assistant recruiting coaches in the country. He asked Lemming for names and was given a group of the top recruiters, including Dave Roberts who had been fired by Bob Davie and is currently working for Lou Holtz." http://irishtoday.com/newsboard/newsarchiv...ewsarchive.html Apparently the USA Today agrees as well. "With Coach Lou Holtz and recruiting ace Dave Roberts at the helm, anything is possible for the Gamecocks and this is certainly their finest recruiting class ever. " http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/foo...2-21-maxcol.htm "Coach Lou Holtz has been recognized for years to be one of the best recruiters in the business. Recruiting coordinator, Dave Roberts, has been given the same tag. So how could the Gamecocks lose with this dynamic duo? The answer is that they can't." http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/sf...iting/max18.htm It sounds like this guy is "N" if we want him. Lets see, former head coach, offensive coordinator and recruiting extraordinaire... That would work for me! -GBR! Quote Link to comment
Red Snow Sword: Husker Sentinel
Hmm........... I don't want to put the cart infront of the horse, but that sounds prettydamn good. It will be interesting to see what really happens. Can we make this thread posted at the top? Or is there another, more efficient way I can keep track of this development? I'm really anxious to see who is going to replace Downing. Quote Link to comment
TheKiD
At the top right of the first post, there is a button that says "Track this Topic"... that might be whatcha want Quote Link to comment

I do believe we have a staff that can coach. But, nice to see you got over the shock of Nebraska winning and have come back to insult them already. Quote Link to comment
