2014 Sand VB Season

Recommended Posts

Meske said this year the team will work out on the sand courts twice a week at the start of preseason practice, with one day also set aside for an indoor workout and conditioning session. He said players were somewhat fatigued a year ago when they practiced four times a week on the sand, which can sap players' energy more than an indoor workout.

Nebraska will play its competitive schedule in Hawaii and Arizona during the team's spring break in March. Last season, Nebraska played all its sand matches in California during spring break and picked up four dual victories, including wins over Loyola Marymount and UCLA. The Huskers also dropped 3-2 duals to Hawaii and Southern California, and finished the season ranked No. 6.

Projected teams for This Week 3/19:

1. Justine Wong-Orantes and Melanie Keil

2. Kadie Rolfzen and Amber Rolfzen

3. Brenna Lyles and Alicia Ostrander

4. Cecilia Hall and Alexa Ethridge

5. Mary Pollmiller and Kelsey Fien

Alternate: Kira Larson

Surprised they have the twins playing together, as I figured the strongest of the two would pair with Wong-Orantes. Keil must have been tearing it up in pratice.

Update to info I had about team pairings from this article:

Nebraska's pairings will lean heavily on youth at the top. Freshmen Amber Rolfzen and Justine Wong-Orantes will be the No. 1 team. Wong-Orantes is considered one of the nation's top youth beach players, and Rolfzen was on the NU sand club last year after graduating high school a semester early.

The No. 2 team will be freshmen Kadie Rolfzen and Melanie Keil, while a combination of Brenna Lyles, Kira Larson and Alicia Ostrander will make up the third team. The pairings of Cecilia Hall and Alexa Ethridge, and Mary Pollmiller and Fien round out the lineup.
