Census: White deaths exceed births

Interesting article showing the changing demographics of our country. More and more baby boomers reaching retirement age, declining white population, the general aging of our population overall, and a baby mini boom in some metro areas.

Challenges to consider:

1. Strain of the baby boomer population on gov't resources - less taxes paid in as they retire, more expenses paid out via various health programs. How do we overcome this challenge?

2. Labor force: replacing huge experienced labor force going into retirement and the declining birth rate overall. Does our immigration policy adequately address the labor needs of future years? Do we have enough educated immigrants coming here to replace the more highly skilled retiring workers?

3. Race relations: while Caucasians will remain the majority race, they are becoming a 'minority' when balanced against all races combined. Does this cause greater or lessor racial issues/conflict?

4. Two party system: Long term the demographic changes do not bode well for Republicans. How do they adapt as a party to these challenges to remain relevant or will a new party emerge eventually to take the place of the repub party?

I have been interested in this dynamic as the baby boomers start dying off for a long time. This affects everything from what you mentioned to also include health care. For the last couple decades our health care system has been strained due to a large number of aging boomers starting to use the system more. NOW, that should start tapering off. How does that affect health are costs, health care supply, jobs in health care...etc.?

You raise some very good questions that I hadn't thought of. There are already some areas and communities in this country where white people are the minority. They tend to adapt and move on with life. There will always be some jack ass racists but they tend to get drowned out by the majority who are not racists or the minorities themselves. The white racists are the ones who become the extreme minority.

As I said in another thread, there will always be a place for a conservative voice in American politics. It is going to be very interesting to see how that evolves. I have no predictions on how that is going to go.

Interracial marriage is also a factor in the 'fewer white people' thing too. Which was always inevitable in this country, it being the melting pot that it is. Historically its not too much different than the English, French, Spanish, Irish, Italians and so on intermarrying. People will adapt and move forward, or die off.

That is an interesting point.

If someone has a black parent and a white parent, they probably put down they are black.

It's going to be a very long time before it starts to taper off. It's going to get worse first. The oldest people in that generation are only in their late 60s.
