Reality check

Ok this is not to sound mean spirited but it is time to face the music. The difference between the athletes and the coaching at places like OSU and us is considerable. They were bigger stronger more athletic at just about every position on the field. We will whine about the tackling being bad but that is mostly just a bi-product of the other team being quicker and stronger, you can work on it till the cows come home but if the guy you are trying to tackle is considerably quicker than you, it is going to be tough. Now be brutally honest ,look at out O line and D line, 2 areas that are a real good indicator of the success you will have against the upper echelon teams. Project out 3-4 yrs. do you see any reason to think we will be able to compete in games like this! It takes great players and coaches with a vision and passion to get the kind of players we need here. We will be the 3-5 best team in this conference unless something drastically changes. I will continue to cheer and holler and scream like I have for 50 yrs, but it is time to face the music.

Our Oline is going to get significantly better over the next few years. Alot of talented young bucks at that position group that aren't quite ready yet. When they are, I reckon we will see a noticeable improvement. Get a guy like Foster Sarrell in here and we really accelerate the proccess. If this was year 4 for HCMR it would be a sign to consider looking for a new coach. But right now we are really in the middle of a rebuilding project with a championship goal

Considering the season they had last year, and the season they're having this here, I'd say we're seeing considerable progress and success. They had one bad night. Deal with it.

I'm so sick of people slamming our players like this. It's not a coach from two years ago's fault that this staff won't play young guys or prepare their guy's adequately for games like this or grind games out in an effort to manufacture wins rather than just running what the card says they should.

Look at the recruiting rankings. Look at the games this season against weak competition.

Then try to make a straight faced argument that this is about talent wearing helmets rather than the talent wearing headsets.

From a quality of play aspect, there's almost no difference between last year and this year. A few breaks went bad last year that have gone better this year.

But in neither year have I seen a staff that demonstrates an ability to put guys in a postition to dominate weaker teams or manufacture wins over better teams.

Yeah, it might be that. It might also be regression to the mean, because let's face it, I haven't seen this team play THAT much better than last year on the field. They've just been significantly luckier scoring-wise... And every decent team we've played we've lost to. The difference is that last year we lost to even crappy teams. Only time will tell which this is.

Who honestly thought the Huskers were as talented as Ohio State and Michigan? Guys like Meyer and Harbaugh change the team in one recruiting class. Other places, like Nebraska, it will take a few. The Big Ten is OSU and Michigan and everyone else. The Huskers are in that second tier with Wisconsin, Michigan State, and , at times, Iowa. One game (where your emotional, on field leader is carted off with one of the most frightening injuries all year) does not offer a true glimpse into the entire season.

They lose some key seniors this year, but also gain some key freshman. Keep the faith and Go Big Red!

dont they start 2 walkons on the OL and a walkon on the DL? then i think the starting tackles are a sophomore and a redshirt sophomore on offense. how much further do i need to go to show that both lines are not up to par? oh wait, let's then remove a projected starter on offense before the season then remove his replacement (who is a sophomore iirc).

i'll patiently wait for your asinine comment about the coaching staff and whining how this is just pooping on the players.

How about we wait until NSD to judge the recruiting class. We may have been .700 before but we haven't won any sort of championship in so long and the teams that are have a different make up than our team or what Pelini was putting on the field. We wouldn't need a rebuild if our goal was to win 9 or 10 games every year. But if we want championships we gotta break down what we were doing before and rebuild something new

Also I never slammed the players

We dominated Wyoming, a pretty solid team
