How Scott Frost evolved Chip Kelly’s offense

Football is still about fundamentals of blocking, tackling, running, throwing, catching and kicking.   Each position has a different role to play.   Schemes are important but in the end, the team that is the best athletically (bigger, strong, faster) and more fundamentally sound will win the most games, consistantly.  Upsets happen and weather, officials, injuries, etc all can play a less major role, but on any given Saturday or Sunday, the best teams win most of the games.  

 

I prefer the Osbone and wishbone and other run based offenses.   I think the biggest advantage is that few other teams run this type of offense so they play against less often and have a very difficult time preparing for it (if it is run extremely well with especially talented players).  It give the great team an edge over even other great teams that are not particularly practiced and adept at defending it.  With Osborne and Devaney's title competitive teams, we played against talented teams but most not ready to play against us in this type of scheme.  Our defense had the advantage of playing our competitor's offenses in most of our games and rarely against teams that played against something we'd not seen before.  Osborne also liked to recruit one 'passer' QB to run the scout team and give us a good look at throwing offense types.  

Preparation, combined with powerful lines and speed everywhere else, utilizing an offense that few opponent's could simulate gave us an edge.
