By the way, way to bury the lead there, @BigRedBuster. :lol:

Here's why all of this talk of Cruz occurred in the first place:

Ted loves him some MILF porn

The update on the link quotes Ted as saying : (1)It was a staffing issue.  He is also (2)selling land in Florida at a good price, (3)he supports all of Hillary's statements as to why she lost the election, and (4)he was the most qualified candidate in the last election.    Which of these statements is actually true :dunno

if you said 'none of the above - you are correct :o

quote:

UPDATE: Ted Cruz has an explanation, everyone. “It was a staffing issue and it was inadvertent,” he told reporters. “It was a mistake.”

TG: This sounds tooo much like a Hillary or Bill statement.  So, maybe he got an advance copy of Hillary's book.

I doubt Cruz liked the Tweet, but usually the people who preach the most about other people's sex habits/homosexuality are the biggest sex deviants.

Unfortunately there was a fairly high ranking state senator in Okla who was recently busted for long term relationship wt under age boys.  This guy had a lovely family and was an outspoken critic of the same type of behavior he was involved with.   Another state senator just resigned and turned himself in for 'groping' a female Uber driver.  Both guys were republican.  And yes people of all political parties have been caught up in these types of scandals but currently it is the repub party that likes to present itself as the party of morality.  Unfortunately, it is a sham that is in talk only.  Morality is more than these types of subjects it is also - how to we care for the stranger, the orphan, and the widow in need (Bible verse James 1:27, Isaiah 58:2-12 - good read so I'll copy both here not to push my faith but to show it isn't the outward 'show' that matters but the heart.  The repubs have for too long done the outward show, with little follow up as voters think 'they said the right words, so they must be the right person for the job'.

Here Isaiah contrasts the fasting of the religious (fasting of food for religious discipline) to what he calls the 'true fast' - the sacrificing service of yourself for the benefit of others:

Isaiah 58:2-12New International Version (NIV)

For day after day they seek me out;
    they seem eager to know my ways,
as if they were a nation that does what is right
    and has not forsaken the commands of its God.
They ask me for just decisions
    and seem eager for God to come near them.
‘Why have we fasted,’ they say,
    ‘and you have not seen it?
Why have we humbled ourselves,
    and you have not noticed?’

“Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please
    and exploit all your workers.
Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife,
    and in striking each other with wicked fists.
You cannot fast as you do today
    and expect your voice to be heard on high.
Is this the kind of fast I have chosen,
    only a day for people to humble themselves?
Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed
    and for lying in sackcloth and ashes?
Is that what you call a fast,
    a day acceptable to the Lord?

6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
    and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
    and break every yoke?

Is it not to share your food with the hungry
    and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
    and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
    and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness[a] will go before you,
    and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.
Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;
    you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.

If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
    with the pointing finger and malicious talk,
10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
    and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
    and your night will become like the noonday.
11 The Lord will guide you always;
    he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
    and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
    like a spring whose waters never fail.
12 Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins
    and will raise up the age-old foundations;
you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,
    Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.

James in the New Testiment puts it this way:

James 1:27New International Version (NIV)

27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:

to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Someone should really let Ted Cruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuz know they make medicine to help with a 'staffing issue'.

Then again, maybe Ted should pick higher-quality porn, and he may not have a staffing issue in the first place.

Yes I agree people from all parties/groups do it. But like you said one group is more self righteous than the other.

It'd be like Sanders secretly taking kick backs from an oil lobbyist/company. (Although that would be a lot worse than cheating, imo).

Good comparison.   However, Mr Sanders has this issue to contend with - we'll see in time if it is just smoke or if there is a fire behind it:

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/heres-why-the-feds-are-investigating-bernie-sanders-wife-jane/article/2627530

The wife of Sen. Bernie Sanders is under federal investigation for her role in a land deal that went bad, and the Vermont senator has slammed reports of the investigation as "pathetic" and believes his wife to be "the most honest person I know."

Because Sanders hasn't ruled out a presidential run in 2020, any federal investigation has the potential to become disastrous or, at the very least, politically embarrassing. And because the scandal touches on the themes of education costs and six-figure severance packages – two issues that were central to Sanders' populist message – discussing the investigations at all could tarnish his brand as a champion of the little guy.

Honest question - how much weight does the investigation of a spouse reflect upon a political person?

I really struggle with this.  People are not in control of their partners' decisions - personal, professional etc.  She might be a total flake, he may not have known anything about it.  If he wasn't signing the paperwork, or working actively to hide things why does this matter?  We don't elect spouses.  If we did, there would be even fewer that are able to run for office.

That is a good question.  It may have to do with what the definition of 'is' is :o - it depends on the seriousness of the investigation and ultimately the end result.  An investigation like this one against Sander's wife may be nothing more than a political witch hunt.  If so, that will become evident in time.  I'd say Hillary was affected by Bill's shenanigans - however, her shortcomings as a candidate had a greater influence IMHO.  Jimmy Carter had Billy Carter to defend.  I think family is always (at least in the past) a reflection on the candidate.  Except this time around wt Trump - having 2 previous divorces (and multiple other moral issues) didn't dampen the enthusiasm of his fanatic followers.  Maybe things are changing where candidates' "moral" (publicly/culturally accepted morality) shortcomings and therefore by extension those of his/her family are less and less of an issue.   1980 Reagan may have been the first president who had been previously divorced.  While it raised some eyebrows, it basically was a non-issue.
