  1. What is the problem sitting him a series or two. He is clearly frustrated. They did it to TA.
  2. Bright side... Scott Frost is thrashing Maryland
  3. Been a lurker here for years. Never complained about anything about the huskers , but omg this D sucks!
  4. I learned that I am getting quite tired of the saying "We just aren't there yet." Can anyone enlighten me to where there is and when yet will be?
  5. Missed it. What was the question and what was the response
  6. Anyone that can actually help the Rams would be great. Heck, our cheerleading squad would make a better offensive line.
  7. I learned that the fans were right over the years. Run the ball and run the option until stopped then pop the play action. Hmmm...Not as stupid as we look.
  8. "And, some Nebraskans down in Nebraska, well, they say, that True to the Red.......Always' heart grew three sizes that day."
  9. If heart and focus is lacking then I say pull those players and throw out the walkons. They may not have any stars by their name but they will show you what heart an willingness to get out their and give their very best is. RKIII is one that you can even tell is up for the job.
  10. You know I am the biggest optimist out there but this post is exactly what I have been thinking. It makes it is hard to be optimistic when the actions are even boggling my mind. Even during the game the run game was working. The option was tearing up their defense yet Beck decides to go Peyton Manning with his play calling. I don't care if Martinez is out there, Kellog, or Armstrong. Beck was better when HE limited his OWN play calling. I don't think it has as much to do with the QB as it does with that.
  11. As long as people keep buying tickets, jerseys etc they are always going to be making this money and some. If people would stop doing so ticket prices, salaries would drop. Don't see that coming anytime soon. Yeah, that's where the discrepency hit me. In terms of people, tickets, jerseys, TV contracts, etc., it would seem the New York Yankees could wildly outspend Nebraska to get the prestitious coach they wanted. But as another poster pointed out, when Alex Rodreiguez is costing you $200 million and Taylor Martinez just costs you a steak dinner, the Huskers have nothing BUT coaches to spend money on. A CFB coach has to perform at a high level for school image and . That image is what helps sell the school to recruits and other students. The better the image, the better the recruits/students, the better the results, and the more potential income the school can get. That in turn is rolled back in other things such as education, facilities, salaries for professors, etc. Which in turn helps school image... You hamper ticket prices and it affects not just the sport but the entire quality of the school. The school is highly dependent on that income for growth. You have to look a bit deeper into the market to see what is going on that is driving market value.
  12. A difference would be that MLB teams has to pay the coaches and players. More income/cap is spent on getting high end players. In CFB players aren't getting paid (except for scholarship) so that leaves room to entice better coaches through a higher salary. Honestly, who cares if salaries are disproportionate anyway. I don't care my coworker is making 1mil a year and I make $30,000. What I do care about is a level playing field that grants me the opportunity to make more if I so wish.
  13. Difference I see between the two is that so far TA has had very few offensive stalls. Yes Taylor has that speed but TA has managed to keep the ball moving in the right direction. But I am with others here...just waiting to see TA against a much better defense to really make a judgement. Taylor's speed is great and all but he has to keep that offense moving better and keep the opposing teams offense off the field as well as our defense. Chew up that clock and don't let their offense back on the field to gain any kind of momo. You can see it made a big difference in the Illinois game. They really couldn't get that momentum going. ADDDED: I do have to say that the offensive line and backs have really stepped up their play. Helps to make TA look better. It may be because Taylor is out and they realized they need to help out that young quarterback, they may have more respect for him as a leader, or simply a fire was lit under their arse to perform better.
  14. Frost was an example of a QB that didn't have the ground speed like Martinez. We didn't need him to take it to the house and be this godly threat that struck fear across NCAA football . Nope... We had other players to do that. Take a guess what we won with Frost at the helm. That is what I am saying. We don't need it. We have 3 top notch backs and a hellish receiving corps. Have a guy that can take care of QB business FIRST then if opportunity arises be able to gain some yards with his feet. Hell with this QB has to be a ground threat junk. With the way Tim Beck has engineered his offense it is imperitive that the QB be able to run and run well. We didn't go get a kid like TA to sit back in the pocket and sling it 50 times a game. Correct The constraints we use to put the defense in conflict REQUIRE the QB to be a legitimate threat to carry the ball effectively Doesnt have to hit for 50 yards every play, just be enough of a threat to go 10+ yards to force the defense to play how BECK wants them to play Tommy doesnt need to be a home run hitter He needs to hold onto the ball and be enough of a legitimate threat so Beck can run his offense- get other people the ball where the numbers dictate Thank you jmfb. That is what I have been trying to say. With our talent, the holes will open up for TA to do at least that. I believe he will surprise us and do more. Even if a play breaks down he should be able to keep us moving. Again that is all we need.
  15. The only distinction I will make is that I want a quarterback that can hit the home run play, even if he doesn't have to. Crouch didn't win a national championship, but he played for one, and won a conference one as well, with a bit lesser of a supporting cast. We dont' want Tommy to have to be like that, but we want Tommy to have the ability to be like that. You may want a QB that does that but if Tommy isn't the home run hitter (I think he will be) I believe he at least has enough to consistently keep the offense moving. That is all we need. That is enough of a threat. And that is my point. Martinez with all his speed and ability or offense stalls quite frequently. He can't get the ball to our play makers consistently. UCLA game.

Didn't say anything about sitting back in the pocket. Good lord people READ through the thread. I said he does not have to be lighting fast like Martinez. I never said he shouldn't or couldn't run either. I did say he does not need to be a home run hitter on the ground. He can still be a threat with 3-10 yard carries on designed plays or play breakdowns. But first and foremost manage and lead the offense.
  17. What exactly do you mean by QB business? Because I am assuming that has something to do with throwing the ball, yeah? And then.....you use Scott Frost as your example. I mean I think I see what you're getting at, but if we're talking about quarterback speed compared to Martinez, well, no quarterback in the history of the school has the ground-speed except Crouch, who did pretty well himself. Not to mention, even though Scott Frost didn't run a 4.3 40, he still was a 1,000 yard rusher. We don't have to settle for a game-manager just because we have other players to make plays. We need a player who is smart, yes, and who will execute at a high level, yes, but there is plenty of room for him being a straight-up playmaker as well. No problem with that whatsoever. You may have to read back through the thread about the debate. Some people brought up and seem to think that a martinez/crouch type of player is what TA needs to be. I brought Frost up because he wasn't the home run ultras fast QB that everyone feared yet did well and won a NC. He didn't have to hit a home run on every play. He got what he could when he could get it with the speed he had.

  19. remind me again which one is thunder, lightning and flash? (nicknames don't go over very well on huskerboard) Cross, Abdullah, Newby
  20. I totally agree. With his amazing plays, there comes some risk with it. I just wish he played a bit cleaner and didn't cough the ball up so much. No one can disagree that he was a difference maker in how NEB won those games I don't think TM should be benched for the whole year. But him watching TA be successful can light a fire under his arse. My hope is if/when TM returns he goes all out AKA freshmen year on ground and last year in the pass. Would be fun to watch.
  21. I don't even think Tommy needs to take it the house on any given play like Taylor can..... He just needs to limit his mistakes, play within the offense and be a manager that can run for the first down on a 3rd and 5 type situation if need be. If he can do those things above, the offense will move, and it will move with authority IMO. Agree. Which is why I think Tommy gives us a better chance to win right now. I think he's a cross between Ganz and freshman Taylor. We don't need his legs, but he's got them. He just needs to use his head, distribute and on occasion take advantage of a running lane. But the offense doesn't need to be built around his legs. Isn't that why we have Thunder, Lightning, and the Flash for running backs? Let the plays be designed around them.
  22. TM also was part of the problem in many games that came down to the wire. Not the only problem but part of it.
  23. Scott Frost is a good example of a QB of this type. I know those long QB runs are exciting to watch but aren't needed. The QB just needs to play how I describe and he will still be a threat a defense has to account for. As long as they made to account for it, it opens up the big plays for our backs and receivers. If they don't account for the QB then the QB will have an opportunity to help walk the ball down the field. Slowing down drive yet keeping the ball moving is what we need and TA may be the QB we needed to reduce the amount of offensive stalling. He just has to be good enough to keep it moving especially when a play breaks down. Yeah, it slows down drive but it also keeps their defense on the field which wears them down and keeps their offense and our defense off the field. The big plays will more than likely in the second half when their D has had enough. I believe this may be a key to how successful the season is...... Unless the defense somehow miraculously becomes MUCH BETTER. They can be better. We all can see some bright spots in their play ability. That makes me optimistic. But they are just not "there yet." Far from it. It will take a while just to get it to where we should have been coming into the first game. That is going to be hard for some to watch and accept. Even me. Instead of having a good defense and working the whole season to make it great. We have a gut wrenching D and have to fight the whole season just to make it average. Ugggh.
