He seems thinks we have enough young DBs so he's looking elsewhere. Apparently that sentiment is making the rounds in the recruiting circles. Which seems a bit odd to me. I do like several of our young guys but I don't think we're totally set there. Not like a bunch of them are already on the field playing or anything. I can see it if there are some highly rated people in the program and no track record of the staff consistently putting people in the NFL. The old staff was pretty good at that but, based on last year, I can't see the current staff claiming it. Maybe a few more years of exceptional production will change that. Lockdown U needs to be an actual thing before you can sell kids on it being real.

I realize it was a stretch. However, there was a thread on here from a few days ago that listed what the top 20 richest programs receive per scholarship player in revenue. It's a rather tough pill to swallow when programs are receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars per scholarship player that's getting very little out of it in terms of compensation. It's the players that are risking irreparable damage to their bodies. Most college students are risking money for going to college while college football players are risking so much more. I love college football. I rarely watch NFL football. However, the money schools are throwing around these days is making college football harder and harder for me to stomach. When Michigan threw nine million at Harbaugh, all I could think was Pandora's box is wide open. I'd venture to guess Herman will be thrown at least ten by Texas. College football has become a win at all costs. That article was a significant oversimplification of things. Spending at the NFL level vs the NCAA level is so different it is not apples to apples. It isn't even apples to oranges. More like apples to cow. Regardless, most football players(like athletes of every other sport) in college are doing it because they love it. Take away the scholarships completely and they would still be able to field a team. Athletes are well compensated for what is required of them. Is your beef just that they are not drawing an actual salary? Paying coaches a lot for expected results makes complete sense. Sure, winning football games leads to better attendance and tv contracts. But here is a study done that proves correlated undergrad admission applications and increased tuition revenue based on an increase in success on the football field. No other sport could prove that correlation. Academics do not want to admit it but a strong football team makes for a stronger university. Coaches salaries should reflect that.

If Nebraska beats Wisconsin, the people downplaying this season so far will say "It's because Wisconsin has played a really tough schedule, so they were beat up from that. Now I'm curious about the numbers when comparing Coaching Salaries among schools. Just looked through the individual budgets for NU. The football salary pool increased from $3.27 million in 2014 to $4.34 million in 2015 with the head coach making 400k less in 2015. $4.61 million overall in 2016 after adding Billy Devaney(300k). Still trying to find a direct quote admitting why HCMR took what he did but NU clearly loosened the purse strings and it wasn't for the head coach.

Seems like when the other team is punting near midfield that Nebraska thinks it is going to be a fair catch situation in almost every case. Because of this they focus on other things. If I am right it is an interesting contrast in philosophy given how much of the rest of the team is based on total effort.

I guess I don't understand what the 4 game suspension is actually teaching. The guy will be getting paid to not coach the team. Sounds like he will be coaching during the week, just not on game days. He is ultimately measured on in-game performance and recruiting and won't be able to contribute when it matters most for the first month. Given how big the first three games will be for visits this seems like a good way to effect punishment while hurting current players in a minimal fashion.

Ha! Before I started, I thought I should get it set up in a spreadsheet to keep track of the match-ups. But it was too late and I was too lazy. So I was just doing it one team at a time. When I got to Iowa, they already had all their tough games stacked in one year and I didn't want to take the time to fix it. I was going to look at who you had them playing - since they only win when they have a very weak schedule. As I type this I just noticed - no divisions. Who plays in the CCG? Do the top 2 teams play just like the *gulp* Big 12 will next year? EDIT - Never mind I reread post #1 Yeah, the no divisions is pretty much the "out of the box" way to look at it. Really seems to make sense to me. Protect the biggest rivalries while maintaining a pretty balanced schedule and still get to play everyone at least every other year. I really haven't come up with a down-side yet. Has anybody addressed the 7 home game per year issue? Having a nice schedule and being able to afford it for the poorest team are usually diametrically opposed. Especially since no one is allowed to schedule the Little Sisters of the Poor any more.

Doesn't seem like we are recruiting any interior lineman this year. I keep hearing rumblings about 4 tackles and that's it. They have done really well the last few years on the interior and the numbers need balanced out. Perhaps they take a flyer on an in state kid but that seems to be it.

I was surprised he didn't use it either. If he can get it down that record will be his easy. Spinning doesn't mean throwing any farther. The records for each are only 2 inches different. Gliding is more consistent and is a seen more at the higher levels in Europe. Spinning gives a longer time to accelerate the shot but provides more places to make mistakes. Greater risk vs greater reward. There are also significant limitations with the spin once you obtain a certain height. Torque limitations vs overall room availability in the ring. World class spinners (generally American) average about 6'4", gliders about 6'8". Based on the discus film I watched spinning would not help him throw further. He has flexibility issues that will take several years to overcome but it would be good for injury prevention down the road.

Too bad. I was hoping we were going to streamline the recruiting process by eliminating the need for coaches to fly.
