  1. I think that is too simplistic. This staff is busting their humps but quite a bit of the results so far are from leveraging relationships they have been building in California for quite a while. Williams is using those contacts better than anyone at this point. Previous staffs just didn't have the connections in CA on this level. I am really intrigued to see what happens in the 2018 class when keyshawn Johnson is no longer involved to give things a boost. Is the momentum continued from signing a monster class in 2017 or do we come back to earth?
  2. You probably don't want to visit a women's shelter looking for a date either but that doesn't mean you become celibate instead.
  3. Just for the record, if he academically is finished with HS...fantastic. Move on in your education. That's very impressive. My questions are more about his athletic career and how this affects his eligibility and development. Not all that impressive in the 'academic overachiever' category. 24/7 says he is already 18 years 5 months old.
  4. So I guess you could say he is a pretty happy Camper at this point...
  5. I see they are squatting a set amount for reps. What is the difference between the squat category and the 1RM? I believe the figure out what your 1 Rep Max is. Then base your work out of that for that particular lift. Then every so often they test and see if your 1 Rep Max has changed and change your work out accordingly. If you lift a weight between 1 and 10 reps you can use the charts here http://www.huskers.com/pdf8/836632.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=100 to figure out what your 1 RM is. Most of these guys are off the chart though . Darlington's number confirms that is the column marked 1RM. I'm not sure what the "Squat" column is but I would also like to know. The squat number is generally lower than the 1RM number except for Darlington. After watching the videos, my guess would be it's a 1RM number adjusted for depth of squat but I don't know how they would judge that. Impressive numbers for Darlington. Yeah, I don't think they want guys to lift their 1 rep max due to risk of injury. So I believe they lift a lighter weight (left column) as many reps as they can. And then 1RM is based on the chart. (I'm just guessing about this. Maybe someone here with actual knowledge can verify?) The 'Squat' column is how many points they earned based on height/weight/amount lifted/etc.towards their total power index score
  6. Maliek is a beast and it was fun to watch him give lineman fits at NU. His quickness is more impressive to me at this point than his strength. Take this lift with a grain of salt. The bar is a safety squat bar. It places the weight about 4 inches lower than a normal olympic bar. It makes it MUCH more stable and changes from a pushing to a pulling motion. Experts can't seem to agree but the general consensus is that you can max lift an additional 10-25% with a safety bar. Personal experience was about 15%. I would expect any professional athlete over 275 pounds to be in this area strength-wise. Their sport may not warrant it but I would expect them to be capable of it. There is a reason that his level of strength/athleticism is good for the first few rounds but not a solid first round grade.
  7. He wanted a 1-year when he came in. More leverage to renegotiate more often. Risky move but pretty smart if you are going to produce like he has.
  8. We added a quality player and dropped 2 spots on 247 and 5 on ESPN, but went up 4 spots on Scout (which sucks). Makes sense???? Other schools are also adding recruits while this is going on.
  9. There's a bit more to it than just effort. You have to look at what courses transfer, which varies WILDLY by university. Though usually there is an agreement among the local schools to help with that, assuming that they attend a close JUCO. Then you have to worry about the 40/60/80 rule that says you have to have 40% of a degree completed after your second year of eligibility (60% third year, 80% fourth year). Depending on the major they choose, if they take too many Gen ED courses then they won't get credit for all of them making them ineligible. If they take too many credits towards a specific major and the school does not have that major or structures it differently then they are also S.O.L. The same problems exist if any athletes want to change their major at any point in their academic career. Or, you know, maybe they are just lazy.
  10. Pretty big academic risk they start talking about him about 12:35
  11. If the football team buys its players something at fair market value then it is fine. Though I'm sure there is some fiscal limit. "Shenanigans" occur when athletes are given benefits outside the university by boosters, etc that are not available to the rest of the student body. Buying players on recruiting visits generally falls into the second category.
  12. Probably a freshman. I didn't turn 15 until the end of freshman year.
  13. Mike Riley doesn't want Tebow. Bo Pelini shouldn't have wanted Tebow. Stanton hated being referred to as Tebow II. You are missing the point. And if you wouldn't take one of the best college players ever on your team you are out of your mind. So you would take Tommy Frazier if you were running an 'air raid' offense?
  14. To ensure the players aren't out drinking and partying the night before and they can get the team to the stadium as a full team on Saturday. It's a lot easier to do bed checks and team meetings on Saturday morning in a team hotel. Good for keeping the players on the same schedule/regimen for home and away games too.
  15. How many official visits to Nebraska does he think he gets? He could take all 5 to the same school if they wanted. It just doesn't normally happen.
  16. I think he was going for the outliers. More 'cat who ate the canary' than 'crap, got fired. now what?' Weis was collecting from two schools at once while working a third position. Muschamp got the full amount from Florida and another job as the highest paid coordinator in the country. Pelini gets the full amount and didn't even take another job at a non power 5 school. He went all the way down to YSU so no help with the salary offset. Could be seen as playing the system. I'm not sure Pelini should have been on the list but ESPN does know how to produce the clickbait.
  17. I don't totally disagree, Tommy takes some of the blame on this regardless. It was stupid to even have a pass play called, but if they told him not to throw it, then he shouldn't have. If Tommy didn't understand the situation they were in and the consequences of letting that ball fly, then that's an issue too. To me, you get the impression Tommy doesn't have a grasp for some of this stuff. I see it with a few of the guys. They just seem to lose awareness. And as for the second bolded part, you're totally right. That's exactly what would've happened and anyone that says otherwise is a farkin' liar. Uhhhhhh no that would not have happened. Timeouts matter because they can be used to make absolutely sure that your team is set up and prepared properly for the upcoming play. What's important on a play like that is to make sure there's absolutely nothing that can go wrong, and minimize errors. Having your team break a huddle with 8 seconds on the play clock, not having the guys properly lined up, calling a play where that's usually a pass but you want it to be a run is maximizing the degree of difficulty on what should be a simple play. If anyone would've complained about calling a timeout in that situation they would've been viewed as completely irrational and ignored. Not calling a timeout led to a confused team that messed up a situation that should have about a 99.9% success rate, and something we are still talking about today. Unless things turn around in a hurry we'll be talking about that play the rest of the year. As for Tommy making a mistake. Yes he did. But he's not the one to blame in this situation. The coaches put him in a bad spot. They need to stop making it so hard on themselves and call a simple run play in that situation. You are working off a few large assumptions though. First, the play difficulty is irrelevant. If a timeout had been called then the play would have never been run so it does not matter what would have been called. Second, that TA would have made the savvy play by calling the timeout with one second left. Breaking the huddle late meant he would not have too much time to call it early but his decision making lately does not fill me confidence for a perfect execution. So really you would have likely had a third down where they broke the huddle late and ended up calling a timeout with a few seconds left because they didn't like the look/feel. That would have been complained about on any drive. Being a crucial third down to try and ice the game only makes it worse. For a fan base that enjoys pitchforks and torches so much it still would have been an issue.
  18. How hard is this to get? It looked like a pass play because it was a supposed to. He was told not to throw it but he did. If someone can legally drive, gamble, drink, and vote for President I would hope you can trust him to run the ball. It is OK to blame a player if they screw up. Especially when they admit it. What do the timeouts even matter? Had they called one, Husker nation would have torn them apart for stopping the clock while trying to run out the game. Reporters would have asked why and been given the same info about lining up wrong, etc. Then some of you jackals would have piled on about how poor the coaching is that we can't even line up correctly so no wonder there is poor clock management. Damned if they do. Damned if they don't. Clearly everyone(or at least it seems like everyone) is still upset and I just don't get why. It's over. Climb down off the cross, build a bridge, and get over it.
  19. He shunned WV to go to Marshall? I actually always thought he didn't get into a power five school because of grades or something. Not even close. Florida State I believe. Go watch Rand U on Netflix at some point. His 30 for 30 story is REALLY good. * Hipp beat me to it.
  20. Didn't he say the exact same thing last year? Yes, he did. The problem has been sloppy play but they have always looked the part.
  21. Why don't the mods just make another subfolder for this and sticky it? It would allow recruit profiles to remain topical and organized while giving people the chance to play predictor in their own sandbox. It seems like complaints from people wanting to vote in the main profile will be outweighed by those just coming here for updates. It would require making the kids profile twice but quite a few of them get duplicated already so it isn't much extra effort. This software clearly isn't written to handle this boards ideal business case but this seems like a solid workaround to me.
  22. ASU doesn't have to worry about a ton of schools with the same color scheme to stand out. Red and white is the most popular color scheme across all colleges. Raises the challenge for NU uniforms quite a bit.
