  1. It may be healthy to remember that part of that "storied 122 year history" were seasons that were completely abysmal.
  2. The Husker Rankings have not changed for me from last week. They are still my #1 team. They always will be. GO BIG RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. You need to stop gambling on the games or seek counseling or both. It is just a game. You don't play in it, it should not effect your life. From 1/2 hour before till the end of "the game", I am fired up and proudly Big Red as anyone in this state (and have been since listening to the games in the early to mid 60s on my grandpa's knees). But when the game is over, win or lose, it does not effect who I am, nor my worth as a person nor the quality of my life.
  4. The two gap system...is that what we've been running? So, it seems, the point of the two gap system is to give the opposing runners two distinctive, wide open gaps into which they run? I think I'm against that, doesn't seem a good idea.
  5. Well said krill. I used to be so bad that if we lost on Saturday, I couldn't pick up the paper off the porch on Sunday and my week was ruined until about Wednesday. Now, I get worked up about half an hour before the game, and generally, win or lose, I'm doing something else by mid second half, listening to the radio broadcast. Love me some Husker football, but I don't care to let it determine the quality of my life.
  6. I learned how to change the drive wheels on my self propelled mower this afternoon and look forward very much to the next time I mow. It should make the steep slope in my backyard much easier now. I also learned, or re-learned, why I don't let Husker Football determine the quality of my life, not even for part of a day. When the boys (they are 18, 19, 20...old boys yes, but not men yet) in Red line up again next week I will be in Lincoln yelling my head off, cheering like a maniac and loving every minute of it. Go Big Red!
  7. Thanks for setting me straight brothers. I have indeed seen the way of my errors on Missou and upon further consideration, will be hoping to see them lay an egg. A&M I still like, for lots of reasons outside of the football stadium.
  8. Whoa!!! How awkward is this! Today I find myself wanting to cheer, and cheer loudly, for both Missouri and Texas A&M. How strange is this thing called fate and conference re-alignment. Never thought I'd see the day.
  9. I do favor the "climb" up the polls. I remember our first championship...everything, right down to the last bowl games had to fall just right for us to move up to the #1 spot. I guess that kind of captured my imagination. Although, having said that...going pole to pole as the Number 1 would be acceptable too!!!!
  10. LOL at the "better looking sister" blast. That's just plain funny. And thanks for not poking us about our Basketball program...though it would have been deserved.
  11. I've notice a couple times this last year that I have a much different feeling about the Big 10 than I did the Big 12. Big 12, even though I begrudgingly cheered for most of them when they played against non-conference foes, I really dislike the whole lot of them. A few of them I cheered against every week, like Texas and Misery and Colorado. I found myself being embarrassed and even a bit defensive of Ohio State during their public ordeal. (Just plain embarrassed and disgusted at Penn State). But watching the other teams play this weekend, and seeing fans from other Big 10 teams on this chat board, I kind of feel a kinship. I don't hate them (well, except Iowa, which I have always hated and likely always will). Maybe it comes down to feeling a little bit prouder of being part of the Big 10 than I felt about the Big 12. Check with me in a year or two to see if this holds.....heh heh heh.
  12. The pics in the more direct light look a bit better, but I'm not sold yet. I am curious...if we wear these and give Wisky an absolute, old school Husker beat down, worse than the whipping they gave us last year...would there be a rallying cry then for the new uniforms? It would be interesting. Let me rephrase that (puts down empty kool-aid glass)..it WILL be interesting.... GO BIG RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Thanks for that kick to the gut!!! I could take you to within a couple of seats from where I saw that happen. For what ever reason I had my binoculars focused on Jackson that play. I felt sick to my stomach then and kind of ill watching it now. But damn those NU v OU games were the best ever weren't they?
  14. I was just thinking take the 1971 Uniform and add one or two small black stripes in with the existing stripes just to make it stand out a little more. New...a little black to please a lot who think there should be some black....but not outlandish.
  15. I'd rotate players on the defense early and often in the early games. Give two or three young studs the chance to excel and be game changers later in the year. For that matter, might as well do that on offense too!
  16. Oh yeah....LSU has no idea how to run an option play....they make us look awesome in that department..
  17. Yep....that makes about as much sense as.....well...as much sense as......oh, never mind.
  18. Tonight's BCS/MNC game really highlights two things relevant to Nebraska football. 1. A defense like we had in 2009, swarming, hard hitting and quick got us 1 mythological second from a shot at that national title..Alabama has that kind of defense on the field tonight. 2. When a defense know it does not have to show concern for even a minimally consistent down-field passing threat, it will overwhelm an offense that is otherwise talented. Between dropped balls and passing inconsistency, teams this year were able to just line up and come at us. Personally, I think both of those things can be fixed for next year. Young studs on defense and the offensive line in addition to Taylor Martinez advancing as much as he did this year. I'd love to see this fleet of young, fast backs turn into receivers out of the backfield next year. Hey...it could happen....
  19. 3 / 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment!!!! Workhorse Sir!!!!! Doesn't matter how often Army loses this game, it will always be one of "the" rivalry games of the year. Although my son is in the Air Force now and I cheer for the Falcons...one day of the year my favorite team is ARMY!!!!!!
  20. LOL...Badgerfan, I like your presence here.
  21. I don't keep track of things like this, but it seems we've had a fair number of kids transfer out of the Husker Football program over the years. How many of them became successful BCS level players at their new college?
  22. Rex Burkead 14 Rest of Huskers 17 Iowa 24 Bo's Gum 27 Referees 6 Irate Fans -10 My brother and his 7 year old son in the NorthWest corner 10 hundred and 60 bazillion points....not enough points in the world for a new, young life long Husker fan!!!!! Nebraska 31 Iowa 24 Rushing 233 Passing 209
  23. I read this thread earlier today and just got home to post my reply about how Tommie had gone out of his way to get another football to sign so I could send it to my son in the Air Force....guess that isn't necessary now. As for his comments, anytime somebody has Tommie's resume, I listen.
  24. I'm with you HuskerThor...from '72 - '94 we always hit a game each year where I pulled out the "wait until next year" mantra. And the thing is....it finally happened. May be another 20 years..but I'll cheer for the Big Red each and every game even if it never happens. Changes now, with the exception of Cotton and/or bringing back Marvin Sanders, would be the final nail in the coffin IMHO. And I truly believe that, despite the embarrassments of this year, Bo and staff will get things right.
  25. Then I give my shame ball to you. Step it up on your TPS reports. LOL...props for your "TPS reports" blast...don't know you well yet as I'm new to this board...but anyone who can put humor into an otherwise dark day is OK by me...
