  1. Agree. So not only can we have the circle jerk of 2 SEC teams playing each other for the championship, we can now just go ahead and crown 2 SEC teams as champs. Need to go on a few carpet bombing runs down south. f#*k playoffs. Amen! Playoffs...pffftt.....so let's assume LSU beats Bama again...ok they've more than earned it right? I'd give LSU a share of the title if Bama beat them by 3-7 on a neutral field. But say we had a playoff. You'd be forcing LSU to win 2 more games to prove they are the best. That's fair. Either give OSU a shot at em or just hand em the crown. Anyone think it's fair that Wisconsin is in the Rose Bowl despite 2 losses? If this were last season without the CCG (playoff game), Mich st would be on their way to Pasedena with one loss. CCG's are a joke...a money making ploy...no different than a playoff. It's just to make more high profile games for more dollars. So people whining about a playoff creating the true champion and "fairness" don't realize that there never will be a perfect system. It's nothing but personal preference and Dbags like Dan Wetzel constantly bitch about playoffs and the BCS ALL DAMN SEASON AND OFFSEASON and use ONLY the convenient facts that support their arguments! Jeez what a tirade...I'm done. I just don't think you should be able to lose your last game of the year, and be crowned champ. The argument that Bama "had their chance" is ridiculous in my opinion. With one undefeated, you have to compare losses, and Bama has the best loss, easily.... Think of the implications. If Alabama gets a rematch who's to say later on it won't happen again. Then the pollsters won't even bother giving anyone else a chance cause the best teams are only in the SEC. that's what i am more worried about. 4 years ago Ohio St. and Michigan were #1 and #2. Michigan lost by 3 and only loss of the regular season. Why didn't Michigan get another shot at Ohio St. in the title game? the only loss they had was to #1 Ohio St.? but instead Florida got it. If you are going for quality losses then Michigan by far had the best quality loss. Spot on.................. The farce that is the BCS becomes even more of a comedy if Bama is anointed and lobbied by the media for a rematch immediately after losing a few weeks ago..........................Why (in the name of Herm Edwards) do we even play the games..........??
  2. I agree with you. I think from both a football schematic standpoint and also a financial standpoint for the university, I think having Bo be both Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator makes a lot of sense. When Osborne was Head Coach he was also our Offensive Coordinator. I think this could work very well for our football team. From a financial standpoint if the university doesn't have to shell out the big bucks to a top tier defensive coordinator and they only have to spend a few hundred thousand on a position coach I think that makes a lot of sense. We already have a top tier defensive coordinator...Bo Pelini. Here is my question for all of you to take a whack at: If Bo becomes both our Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator, is our new position coach going to be hired on the offensive side of the ball or defensive side? I could see this going two ways; 1) We hire somebody to help Papuchis coach on the defensive line. Or 2) We hire Turner Gill back to be our QB Coach and help teach the option principles that Beck wants to use in his offense. Plus this frees up Beck to be just a coordinator. Ok that's my two cents....have at it Husker fans This a better and more detailed summary of what I suggested in a post a few days ago. Not surprisingly, I agree with you............and myself..... I really like the opportunity to free up a position in a unique way.................including maybe hiring a proven bona fide recruiting coordinator who can spend more time on it..................
  3. Imho......................this is Doc's chance to salvage a season that we expected to be a markedly positive step up. Lots of seniors and unquestionably his most talent. Unfortunately, his penchant for horrific coaching in last minute game situations have put this season on the brink. Lose today and probably at TCU on Saturday combined with a very tough Big 10 slate and it may spiral out of control. Love to be wrong, but I won't be surprised if our suddenly confidence-deprived team gets schooled big time today.......................
  4. Channel 3 out of Omaha..............
  5. I'm hoping you're kidding because there is basically no chance we're lower than the #4 team chosen out of the B1G. Even if Michigan doesn't make a BCS bowl and the CCG loser is picked ahead of us (which I doubt), there's no way anyone picks a Penn St. team we beat ahead of us. Edit: OK. Maybe I missed this a little. I thought the Gator Bowl had the #4 pick but does it alternate with the Insight Bowl? Even then, I think we'll be the #3 team which would be Capital One or Outback depending on if Michigan gets into the BCS. Insight has #4 pick, but it's looking more and more likely that Michigan is not getting a BCS at-large spot. Plus, aren't the bowl slots assigned by the Big 10 office--I thought that was one of the differences in that the Big 10 brokered the bowl destinations and told the teams where to go. And as much as I despite the pointy-uterused whore vermin of Austin and their ilk, I don't want to play them, weak or no--I'd rather play a SEC team that will be a challenge so it will help our team get better. Beating a woefully inadequate and incompetent Texas team would do nothing to help our team... EXCEPT remove the festering Bevo-Curse...................................that alone might make it a worthwhile endeavor.....................
  6. Congrats Badgerfan................
  7. Funny.........yet disturbing..............
  8. hmmm............I'm getting the impression you don't care much for Dan....................... I WILL say, regardless of what you think of his character/comedy/act...............he is one of the more generous givers in the Lincoln community.............he has given multiple millions to underfunded and/or start up missions, churches, charities, etc. (usually, unreported............but eventually the news finds it's way into the public domaine). He also is a HUGE donor to the University....................(although I doubt T.O. is particularly enthralled with his schtick) Just some additional info..............
  9. Very well known fact that he is a Husker as his wife is from Omaha. IIRC...........he was on the same flight back to DC when Ankrah was going home from his recruiting visit.................Justice Thomas and Ankrah visited about Husker FB and life throughout the flight. Doesn't get much better than having one of the Supremes as an unofficial recruiting guru...............
  10. To the contrary...................the national media....... i.e. espn...............decreed back in August (right after they fitted the heisman to Luck's sized hands)........that the winner of the SEC would be the MNC. They even started priming the pump of public opinion that the loser of LSU/Bama would still be in the title game. The rest of us just didn't know it .........or foolishly believed in Herm Edwards dictum.
  11. I agree, but who would have been groomed to take over in 97? Turner? That was the one bad thing about having assistants staying around for a long time, when Tom retired, they were all old as well. Turner would have been the logical choice but only if Tom had stayed on for a few more years. Turner would have been to green at that point. Maybe Ron Brown? But we now see that he really had no desire to be a head coach because he could have easily left Nebraska for a MAC typed job like Solich did. That was the problem, Tom didn't have anyone on his staff to hand the torch too. As we all see now, Turner would have been a disaster too. If there was ever a time to have a national search it was in 1998 and NU could have any coach that they wanted. NU with it's tradition and history should be a destination job, not a job that is handed out to inexperienced coordinators and hope for the best type situations as we have done since TO retired. And NU has been irreverent since the last of TO's recruits graduated because of it. You might argue we have been somewhat irrelevant since T.O., but irreverent.............?? That's blasphemy.................
  12. We shouldn't be surprised at this at all. Whenever, we are not somebody's top choice, it will always be a struggle IF there is a chance that their number 1 can offer late. No different than when UNO (when they still had fb), Ohio, or any number of D-1 schools get in early on a local kid and we play them along until defections open up a schollie and we offer and they pounce. We are on both sides of this. Doesn't mean it doesn't smart when it happens, especially if our staff unearths some diamonds and our attraction sheds some additional national exposure on the prospect and it comes back to bite us.
  13. Interesting. I always think it's a hoot when people try to answer for other people. Why would someone hate Tim Tebow or a kid like him? Doesn't make sense. The kid stands for everything that's good about football and life. To hate him would be a total waster of emotion. We are on the SAME page here. I totally agree with the premise that it's hard to understand why some people hate him. My intent and belief was well presented by skersfan in post 12. I originally made the "polarizing" comment precisely because there ARE folks who find him that way. I don't understand why, but guess it's because the media themselves are polarized with the love/hate dichotomy and people choose sides. His faith may be an issue for some, but I wish it wasn't. He appears genuine to me and seems to live his faith as well as articulate it. The unfortunate veer of this post is that it is becoming about Tebow and it was supposed to be about whether or not Husker fans appreciated Rex for similar attributes as Tebow fans do for him.
  14. Really? Really?? wow. OK, ladyhawke, you've got my interest. I was expressly trying to avoid making the post into a love/hate argument that you hear daily concerning Tebow. So I added the obvious qualifier in parentheses, even though I know no one who would argue that Rex is in anyway polarizing. BUT, I have seen some amazing " takes" circuitously twisted on the board and merely sought to preclude it. So, I am assuming your " Really? Really??? wow" tepid response was dripping satire. If not, please enlighten me with your subterranean message................
  15. Yeah, I get your point and it was difficult and awkward to find a way to phrase it. I meant it as more of a commentary on a current phenom and how his name has almost morphed into a descriptive direct object. I don't think anyone being Tebowed means that he is in anyway subjugated to him.
  16. I was gonna slap you if there wasn't a little more clarification. However, that same description could be used on almost every walk on contributor that has came through this program. Your qualifier would be accurate IF "almost every walk on contributor" would eventually go on to be a multiple record holder................. However, I am relieved I was able to avoid the SLAP.........
  17. The "system" failed her...?? The "system" isn't accountable....?? Good grief...........what have we allowed society to become..............??
  18. In the form of a versatile, blue collar, workhorse, throwback player who inspires the fan base……. (I certainly don’t mean in the manner of a polarizing figure)
  19. Agree with this..........^^^^
  20. Anyone else wonder why Bud Foster never gets a look....................??...................must be his suave demeanor......................... He gets looks all the time. He's committed to VaTech, though. No way I can dispute you on this because I don't have any facts but I swear I've heard announcers commenting on how often he is left out of the finalists when applying for HC positions in the past.............
  21. Anyone else wonder why Bud Foster never gets a look....................??...................must be his suave demeanor.........................
  22. Leach is that crazy uncle that is fun to watch at Thanksgiving...........................so long as he doesn't LIVE at your house........................
  23. Devils advocate................why would Stoops take a job where Bo is in reality the DC and looking over your shoulder....................not giving you total autonomy...........? To me, the best scenario is for BO to be both HC and DC (like TO was HC and OC) and open up another staff position........................even if you get it to be a recruiting coordinator type (like Turner ??)
  24. Michigan at Nebraska is scheduled for Oct 27, so the prohibition should not apply............ But, unfortunately, the final call on times will be made by the omnipotent purveyor of all things football...................ESPN...............
