  1. IF, NU does this correctly, it should help as we are one of the top 10 most profitable football programs in the country. If we do not throw money at the staff and set up some technological kingdom to constantly bombard the kids, we are screwed. We do have TONS of high profile former players that we could send around to help recruit. Imagine a call from SUH or visit from Wistrom at your house, Ahman Green etc......
  2. Only thing Cally was/is guilty of is felony stupid.
  3. Yeah but wins are all that matter. You could win every game by the skin of your teeth, but if you win who cares? Playing games close is one thing, but playing them close and then pulling out a win is another. Nebraska had a bad game during the B1G championship no doubt. But it was one game, i think you need to look at the whole season. And against OSU and record setting yards given up to UCLA. Wisky wasn't an aberration, it was another game in a theme that is all to familiar under Bo. MNC contending teams do not get curb stomped every year. Until we clean up our fumbles and start to execute at a rudimentary level on a consistent basis, we do not deserve to be the preseason fave. Wins are great, don't get me wrong. At the end of the day, that is what ultimately defines you. BUT, coaches and fans see the same thing we have seen the past 5 years under Bo. We have issues that need to be fixed if we really ever expect to compete in every single game week in and week out.
  4. Good for Scott. Will be anxious to see how well he does year 1. I wonder if they will simply continue to run the Ducks O with no real changes at all. Just keep moving the system forward.
  5. 1. You don't need the NRA to counter stuff like that . . . you just need to expose the editing. I'd be willing to wager that this Fox News expose has had far more viewers than the original ad. No NRA needed. 2. Extremism and craziness is most effectively countered with rational thought and moderation. (Might be why Obama is winning these battles of late...) When people (presumably voters) start believing that they need to be crazier because someone or something that they oppose is crazy . . . well . . . we're in a bad place. Let me ask you an honest question. Do you consider Obama a moderate as it relates to gun control? I have no issue with some of his 23 points. I wonder about the funding and have some concerns about the mental health issues as it relates to HIPPA (?) and will this discourage people from getting help (particularly LEO and MIL) with possible PTSD so as to not lose the ability to purchase a firearm or possibly lose their jobs. I think that his goal is simply not to control or mitigate the violence, but to actually ban hi-cap mags and certain class of firearms. This, IMO, is the extreme side of the coin. Had he not played to his extreme base, I think he would have much more support. Some of the initial plans will have the intended results, and make it more difficult to purchase and or acquire firearms. BUT nothing on that list would have prevented the tragedy at Newtown save armed LEO's at the school. (something missing from the 2011 and 2012 budget, unsure who made the cuts) He murdered his mother and stole her firearms. IIRC, he had actually been denied the right to purchase a firearm. Also the whole 40% of gun sales comment was out of context as it is actually "40% of all re-sales" not 40% of all sales.......... Again, I support back ground checks, sharing data base info, funding police and placing them in schools. I even support yearly renewal of permits. requiring a "safe" to secure your firearms so that they can not be stolen and subsequently used. I do not support any way shape or form the banning of a class of firearms or magazines. I think I have a more "moderate" view of management of the issue and do not consider it to be extreme. Here is a lengthy article showing some good statistics ref firearms. http://factcheck.org...c-vs-gun-facts/ I agree with your last comment for sure. Sadly, it also goes for politicians having to be crazier as well. Politics, IMO, has almost become like a rabid fan base. No middle ground. My team or bust. Screw your team etc......... It is almost as though the state of politics today has taken on the tone of the Cold War. With dems and reps playing the role of the US and USSR where the only losers are the American people. I do not remember, in my lifetime, a more divisive climate in DC.
  6. IIRC, wasn't Heard slated to basically be "out" all season until Rex got injured and then he was pressed back into service? Heard definitely looks like he could get the job done as well. He "slides" more than runs. Looks very smooth and fluid. I would love to see him get about 15 touches per game in addition to AA. That, and throw in an improved (hopeful) Cross and we could be deadly next year at RB. With Martinez, that puts 4 experienced guys plus Jano and Marrow. Deep, very deep. I wish we would take a cue from Bama and UGA and even Wisky and rotate those guys throughout the game. That is a lot of skill and talent that we could continually pound, keeping them fresh all game and really wearing out the D.
  7. Getting over Flu or FLI (Flu Like Illness). Got is Sat and felt better by Weds. Still have nagging cough and more tired than usual. Hopefully 100% in a few days. Didn't get Flu shot. Same symptoms as above, fever, tired, aches etc......
  8. The reason the NRA exists. To counter crap like this. There is no reasonableness in DC. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/01/18/gun-control-group-omits-top-lynching-line-in-attack-ad/
  9. I agree that the list shouldn't have been published but I don't really see a coherent message. In certain situations we're told that guns are a deterrent and that would be criminals prefer unarmed victims. Now some in the gun lobby are implying that publishing this list makes the gun owners targets for burglary? What happened to the unarmed victims line? I think that the "deterrent" part comes into play when the homeowner is actually at the house. With all things being equal (two houses with people home) the thief would choose the one that didn't have an owner with a firearm. The irresponsibility of the media now comes into play. In Newtown for example, where did he get the guns? That's right. From his mother's house, after he murdered her. He didn't lawfully purchase them. He murdered and then stole them. The media, by reporting gun owners has now done the same thing. They have openly listed all of the homes in a certain area that has guns. Now all would be thief has to do is drive by a few times, get a feel for the schedule of the house and then go shopping. Completely irresponsible in the part of the media. If these houses are broken into, and guns are stolen and used. These stellar reporters should be sued. (goes back to my previous suggestion that mandatory secure storage be required for gun ownership) How about we publish a list of folks who have had abortions? Those who are receiving some for of counseling? Those undergoing some type of rehab? Another shining example of the great job the media does.
  10. The man. The myth. The legend. SANTINO PANICO! He is kind of a scary looking dude. He looks like a UFC fighter. Don't know how that panned out for him though. Oh to have had his hands back there this year on punt returns................
  11. Does it really come to the surprise of anyone that a lobby group promotes its own self interest? Really. Like the Dems are not in bed with special interest groups as well as the Republicans. Really? People are surprised.........................
  12. I think that only a few on one fringe actually believe that . . . and only a few on the other fringe actually want that. These are Obama's proposed executive orders that has a certain group worked into a lather of "tyranny!," "impeachment!," etc. They look pretty mundane. Personally, I really hope that there is no ban on any type of firearms or magazines. I know it sounds cliche, but guns do not kill people. People really do kill people. The one common denominator that links every murder throughout history. A person did it.......... IMO, it does appear that those in favor of control, at least according to the media and more vocal Dems is an outright ban on "assault" weapons and hi-cap mags. Hope that is not the case. With the fiscal cliff looming, unemployment still about 8%, 77% of Americans with the new "tax" surprise etc.... The last thing we need as Americans is another drawn out divisive political battle that further divides the country.
  13. http://www.slate.com...slation_on.html Did a quick read, doesn't look crazy or off base. Funding would be an issue for a lot of it. How about we try the above before we actually start disallowing gun ownership..........
  14. Doesn't mean that you won't hear a magazine called a clip 50% of the time at the range . . . (BTW, I have an old 96/38 Swedish Mauser that uses stripper clips. I really need to get back into that project . . .) That is a nice rifle!
  15. The main factual problem that I see is that as far as I know Obama has never said that we shouldn't have armed guards in schools. Did they commission a study on homicides outside of inner city areas? If not . . . I'm not sure that you can credibly imply that the White House doesn't care as much about inner city children . . . This must be one of those rare areas where increased spending is a good thing. Unsure if the study for the years listed was the inner city or all of Chicago proper. Just pointing out that last year over 500 homicides were committed. Outside of Chicago, not one peep about national gun control.
  16. Just a huge pet peeve of mine.
  17. It makes it very difficult to have a rational debate about gun control when one of the leading groups in the discussion is not even bordering on being rational. And when those making the decisions continue to call a magazine a "clip". Those go in your hair.
  18. It makes it very difficult to have a rational debate about gun control when one of the leading groups in the discussion is not even bordering on being rational. It is melodramatic for sure, but irrational? No. My question would be are the "armed guards" actually Secret Service or school employees (guards). The Board of Education in DC has armed protection as do most gov't buildings. Chicago led the nation last year with 500+ homicides, but yet the White House never convened a committee to study this. Is it because the inner city children are not as important? The majority were results of gang violence? The fact that approx 98% were caused by illegally purchased/owned firearms and a very small amount included the dreaded assault rifle? The fact that even one of the Police Commissioners said banning assault weapons wouldn't help. http://www.wnd.com/2...-do-in-chicago/
  19. As far as the historical accuracy of the Bible here is a good start. http://carm.org/can-we-trust-new-testament-historical-document I have learned no discussion ever goes well with religion or politics. We all want "win".
  20. To do everything they ant done can be accomplished in the following manner: 1) require l persons' buying firearms obtain a permit. This includes handgun or rifle. 2) Any sale, this permit has to be recorded and an instant check conducted 3) yearly renewal of permit to make sure no convictions that would now be on record that would have prevented ownership in the first place 4) mandatory training on fire arms similar to NRA hunter safety course This course to be taken after obtaining permit prior to gun purchase. 5) secondary training (prior to purchase again) that is more "tactical" in nature ie shoot don't shoot, low light. civil liability etc..... 6) Proof (again prior to purchase) that you have a permanent manner (ie safe) in order to secure your firearms to prevent another SHES issue. You know keep a wack job criminal, from breaking into a house, murdering the owner and stealing the lawfully owned firearms. 7) let owners know if their firearms are compromised and used in a crime they can be held civilly and criminally liable 8) Learn the difference between a clip and magazine if you want to sound even remotely intelligent about gun discussion 9) Allow Fed/State and local databases to interface The above took about 3 minutes to think. Made no mention of caliber, magazine capacity or firearms function and will do more to control gun violence than anything this admn has thought of. (AND NO I HAVE NO IDEA THEIR THOUGHTS) only that it includes limiting ownership by citizens. They simply want to enact more laws to prosecute people for breaking existing laws. Stupid. To finally add, criminals to not obey laws. That is why they are criminals. That is why the a$$ clown in Colrado and the clown in Newton brought guns to "gun free zones" and why they MURDERED people. They are criminals. Laws are for those who obey them. Just like you cannot legislate morality (ie abortion, gay rights), you cannot legislate the extinction of evil (ie gun laws)
  21. To paraphrase Scott Frost after the game. "if the national championship is on the line, who would you rather play? Us or them? If the answer in Michigan, then vote for NU as the NC."
  22. Manziel is not in the top 100 for fumbles. The chart I found showed the lowest total to be on the list as 5. So I am ASSuming he had less than that.
  23. What? really? Boy, I bet we really showed him. His fumbles, INT's etc...... Same as saying we won inspite of our D. His i also said he has won us games. Bottom line, he is our best option, but you do not lead the nation in fumbles for 3 years in a row and not have it cost you at some point in the season. That is not really too hard of a proposition to believe. My point being, folks need to take off the Husker colored glasses and realize we have issues. I am mentioning Martinez in this thread as the topic is fumbles. Again, something he has led the nation in for several years. The problem is you can not really use an "in game" punishment for mistakes ie sit a series/play etc as that would take our best playmaker (Martinez) off the field for quite a few plays. If you would like me to get off topic, I can also bring up the 500+ yrds in the air by UGA, the 400+ on the ground from Wisky, 70 points, 63 points etc..... We have issues. But feel free to shoot the messenger.
  24. During the bowl game between A&M and OU, the announcers commented that in spring ball Johnny Manziel was a turnover machine (fumbles). Sumlin (HC) told him if you expect to play, you need to stop the fumbles. Guys on this team do not fumble. Martinez has led the nation for 3 years in fumbles. Think about that. Our QB leads the nation. He has won us games, lost us games and we have won in spite of him. I would like to think that the staff would put the same pressure on the team as Sumlin, but that will not happen. Hard to tell AA to sit for the fumbles when Martinez would never see the pine. I am sure it is hard on the staff to find an incentive that will enable the guys to hold onto the ball without it keeping Martinez off the field.
  25. Hybrid DE/LB. Does good in run support. Not so much in pass coverage. Brings good knowledge and can hopefully help the younger guys.
