  1. After what I saw on fox last Saturday night, I'm really hoping you don't run the damn ball Did you see the Georgia/Alabama game? Don't get me wrong, I like Rex and Ameer, but we don't run the ball like that. It is not Rex or AA, it is their OL.......Different level for sure. No walk-on feel good stories there.
  2. If BO is trying to better himself good. My personal experience, you never really know how good/bad you have it at your job until a sure offer comes along.......Maybe he gets "the offer" and realizes NU isn't that bad. Perspective in clarity is good. In regards to oversigning, it works. NU has 20+ OL on schollie and 3 walk-ons starting to include a defensive tackle switched to center. Basically same with the DL. We recruit by the numbers, guys do not work out and we are screwed. SEC over recruits by 15 guys, enough pan out to have a pretty complete class each year. Quality depth each year and at each position. We recruit, X number do not pan out and we wait until next year. Recruit some more and 1-2 on OL work out and now we have 2 fresh and 3 seniors for example. I do not agree with it, but until it is illegal that is what we are up against. If Bliema to Arkansas is true, he is a perfect fit in the SEC.
  3. Forgot about the ankle it was so long ago. Have seen him on and off, but nothing spectacular. Hopefully just the ankle. Any word on Anderson's recovery with his knee?
  4. Hey guys, I have seen Mo sporadically at best and thought he was going to be a beast listening to the pre-season hype. Is he injured? What happened? If injured can he get a medical RS?
  5. Whew, I thought it ws a break down of Wisky...... Toss rt for TD Toss left for TD Toss left for TD Toss rt for TD 500+ yrds later.......... I agre with the above. just trying to be humorous. It seems that neither side really even tries to help the other either. Someone had posted after one of our games that if our D is on the field for an extended time, instead of eating clock, Beck goes all Oregon and scores in like 3 seconds putting an already gassed D back on the field. A more recent example was when Wisky came out in the "stand up D". Gosh looked familiar like NU 2011 vs Sparty. Why did that shock Beck? Hadn't he and Bo and the rest of the staff schemed that together last year. Do they not communicate what works/worked and why it does. Bo is a supposed D guru and beck is supposed to have some O smarts. Don't they explain why things work or won't. Nothing should be such a surprise as to make you wet yourself repeatedly on national tv. When we implode, we do it on both sides for sure. The only game I can recently recall when the O clicked and D failed was NW last year. Martinez was nails and the D crapped it up. Sometimes seems like we have two teams out there (actually 3 counting st) instead of one cohesive unit. More problems than solutions at this point. For the record, those stats above are plain out crappy. Wow!
  6. We all saw how terrible RKIII was against the lowly Gophers. How awful would it be to see Martinez go down in the bowl game, off-season or at any time during his Sr. year? We would be absolutely sunk. I dislike QB controversies, but there is no doubt we are incredibly shallow at that position. I would certainly say we are more shallow at QB than Michigan sans Gardner. And it is a miracle (especially after tackles like Borland made) that Martinez has not gone down to injury this year. This is the biggest issue, it is year 5 and we are FINALLY starting to see some depth at the skill positions ie RB and WR. Look at the DL and OL, none that really have experience. QB-0, Kicker/punter-o, LB-0, safety-0, TE-0, Not saying guys haven't played, but you are all delusional thinking we have and/are developing quality back ups across the board. Guys really get time when guys get injured. Bama, 3 backs with over 100 yrds against GA, look at the Domers use of multiple backs, Wisky etc.... Why don't we? We do not put a priority on getting guys "ready" to play until it is injury time ie David in 2010...... We also have approximately 20+ guys on schollie for the OL. Why are 3 walkons staring? Why is our starting center (was starting) a converted DL? How does this happen. We have done and are doing a really crappy job of recruiting or developing kids. It sucks. Needs to change. Regarding getting someone to help, what about co-DC in Monte and Co-OL coach in Milt? Hell bring in McBride. Bo took this job with little experience as it relates to a HC ie none. He promoted a guy to DC 4 years removed from a GA. INsane IMO. Same with Beck as OC. Future is bright for both per the talking heads, but both are woefully ill equipped to drive this ship without some guidance. Same with Pelini. You don't learn on the job while playing the likes of OSU, Michicken, MSU, PSU, Wisky etc.... Look at their HC's experience. It is telling. The games we have lost, IMO, we not do to talent deficiencies, but coaching issues. UCLA and our pass attack instead of running. D melt down against OSU and Wisky this year. Leading the nation in fumbles for 3 years in a row. You can't win dick when approximately 46% of our opponents points came from our fumbles. NOt INT's, but fumbles. Again, coaches learning on the job have a hard time trying to teach kids. Imagine a brand new guy at your current job trying to teach you how to do yours. It doesn't work in the corporate world, military or gov't. Why would we expect it to work here? Firing Bo isn't the answer. Firing a 10-3 coach kind of sinks recruiting efforts and good luck getting a splash hire ie think Cally. Firing the staff would help, IMO, but then who does Bo hire? Does he go after guys smarter and more experienced than himself? Does NU even come off the money. Look at Clemson hiring Venables (sp) away from Stoops. I never saw that coming, but money talks. If firing is not an option then the AD needs to explain expectations to Bo. Losing is part of life. getting curb stomped by two teams this year and two last year isn't getting it done. Losing this year to a 7-5 team with a 3rd string QB and only one game plan, run the ball, allowing over 500 yrds on the ground is not getting it done. Tell him, no firing, than I expect hiring of some consultants. Maybe we lose a position coach or paid GA. Maybe fire Cotton and hire Milt, etc..... Obviously there is something broke with this team and if Bo can't fix it or identify the problem then the AD needs to. If you keep Els, relieve him of duties. Make Fish or Brown the ST coach. Their guys can catch, hit, tackle and block. Also think about hiring a person outside NU to review film in the off season. Hot wash, dirt dive the season. Look at the good bad and the ugly. Tell Bo and the staff where they screwed the proverbial pooch. What WILL be fixed. If not with the program, guys can hit the road.
  7. Once we "find ourselves", crap like that will be taken care of on the field. Not talking cheap shot for cheap shot, but a flat out a@@ kicking. No way that stuff would have happened back in the day. I did notice in McKweons article he stated Long rushed to his defense. I didn't see any Huskers do anything..... Did I miss something?
  8. Recruiting trail I hope. A lot of damage control and "now do you see why we need you so friggin bad". Think you will start at OSU or Michicken next year? Look at their depth and now look at hours. Come on, we need you! That is what I would be doing.
  9. We are our own worst enemy. One thing Sat SHOULD have shown the coaches is that defensively, the DL scheme has got to change. Hell we have 1 month to develop a 3-4 to plug the holes. With a 250-260 Cam at DT we are pretty much screwed on the line anyway. Our pass D will get a test, but I think they will be ready. Go with Whaley and Compton in the middle and Santos and another LB on the outside. Maybe even move up one of our safeties. Do something, hell anything to change. A 3-4 is a whole scale change, but even go to a basic hat on hat 1 gap scheme. We appear to "slow" for a read and react. Angle of pursuit was so horrific that we need to fix that as well. Simply letting our guys play ie see ball, get ball should improve our ability. The staff needs to also realize what is more important, trying to win and have a good showing or letting seniors have one last bowl game. For example, is it worth senior X starting over underclassmen Y who is a better athlete, but doesn't "know the system". Dumb it down and get the athletes on the field. As another poster stated, w/out injuries in 2010 David never would have played. Think about that, a kid who didn't know the system, went out and set a single season tackling record at NU. Finished with the all time record after only 2. Get athletes on the field. Get a set of D schemes down that these athletes can learn and execute in their sleep. On O, same thing. As another posted, we have approx 24 kids on OL schollies. Why are we starting 3 walk-ons. Get some athletes ready to go. Look at tape and find plays that we can execute in our sleep to execute GA and go with those. ACTUALLY USE A TRICK PLAY. It is called a "trick" because it fools the other team. GA is beatable. It really depends on what team and staff show up.
  10. I keep reading about this Borland dude and how he "body slammed" Martinez to the ground. I didn't see the play. Out of respect to my tv and out of fear of throwing my remote thru the screen, I stopped watching the game just before halftime. But it baffles me how people are all sorts of pissed off and bitching about this Borland dude when it seems Suh did the same types of things (McCoy, Gabbert, etc.) yet people praised him and thought nothing of it. I guess it's ok when our guys are administering the punishment to our opponents QB but when our QB gets tackled, the other guys are "dirty" players. Ndamukong was vicious as they come, but he never performed a full-out suplex while he was here. But had Suh "performed a full-out suplex", Husker fans would have cheered Suh and acted as if there was nothing wrong with the play. That's my point. I would have an issue with it, just as I do with his antics with the Lions. Mean and nasty is great. Dirty and cheap shots are some straight up BS, IMO. No place for it in this game. Same with the guy that dove at Martinez's knees. At least he drew a flag. I am still more amazed that none of our OL stepped into either guy. Sad. No fire.
  11. This one was a complete stand him up, lift him up and then hip toss, head and neck first into the turf. SUH was angry and mean, this intentionally cheap and dirty. Lost all respect for him.
  12. Bo has assembled a stellar staff of inexperienced guys who can not adjust. Bo's scheme has been figured out and exploited. Without NFL talent, read Cally recruits, he has been exposed. To add, NFL talent, Haag, Prince, SUH, Gomes, David etc....can cover up ALOT of issues. His, and staff's inability to adjust to anything in the Wisky game showed how inept they are. We FAILED to adjust. Our defensive guru and the next big thing in Paps gave up almost 600 yrds on the ground. 600 YARDS............ In 2010, had it not been for injuries, David would have never seen the field. When he did, Bo always said he did good, BUT doesn't know the system. Hey Bo, the "system and process" just gave the fans the biggest beat down witnessed EVER regarding a complete 4 quarter collapse. We have the talent, IMO, to play with anyone. We come out flat (coaches) are not fundamentally sound (coaches) are allowed to continue to play after several miscues (coaches) are running the plays they call (coaches) in a system that is too complicated (see jumping around on D when a team motions), etc.... Every game we have lost, we have flat out been out coached.
  13. Players playing for pride is a big motivator. GA thinking that they got a lesser bowl and an un-worthy opponent. Coaches coaching for their jobs also has an interesting way of making them put progress over pride and pull their collective heads from their a$$es and actually look at film, ours and thiers, and come up with a plan that will surprise them. Before Sat, I would say we really had a chance. Wisky proved, IMO, just how inept of a staff BO has put together. Players vs players is a wash IMO, BUT our staff leaves much to be desired. I really am watching this to see how our staff bounces back and how much they improve.
  14. If we get blown out, no post season ranking, no erasing the pathetic excuse of a B1G championship and lucky to be ranked pre-season AND probably cost us some recruits. After USC last year, and Raymond's comments about look at them and look at us, thes eguys need to learn how to get punched in the mouth etc, I would hope our guys would be mad at the world angry. However, IMO, the lack of fire or anger shown when Borland body slammed Martinez and when the other guy went for his knees and the O did nothing leads me to believe that they do not have this "anger, fire or nastiness" needed.................Wisky punched us HARD and we folded like cheap laundry.
  15. How is that game on Beck? And Bo isn't just a bystander, he is the DC and all three losses are on Bo and his scheme, not Beck. Also Bo needs to learn how to get his team ready to play away from Memorial Stadium, as they laid 6 turds this year. So assuming that this would be a seventh isn't that far of a stretch. If you look at this season, Beck's offense saved Bo's but several times this year. The only games we lost were when the defense gave up more than 30 points. That is not an offensive problem. I guess Bo as a bystander for implementing no changes to stop the slaughter that was the worst rushing defense EVER in Husker history. For having his DC acknowledge "we has trouble on the edges as seen at UCLA and OSU, Wisky just exploited it better". So your DC knew there were issues at the start of the season and did nothing.......... As far Beck, he goes all pocket passer when we have the best run team in the conference and #8 in the nation. You have a 1000 yrd rusher in AA and an all everything in Rex. No trick plays, no plays to slow the rush, no answer for that stupid "jump around D" when all he had to do was have Martinez run a "sneak" with 1500 lbs of lineman blowing into guys standing up 5-6 yrds off the line. No diamond, no screens, no reverse, half back pass etc....... So yes, I blame Beck as much as I do Paps and Bo. As for saving our butts, possibly true, but his Air Martinez cost us against UCLA, Wisky and Michicken last year and IMO, the B1G this year (partner in crime w/Paps). He is as erratic as Martinez. Great one moment and then holy crap the next. Really that is this team. World beaters followed, immediately at times as Epic Fail.
  16. I have said all season this team can play with anyone. Domers or Bama and Dawgs included. It just depends on what team shows up and how long they stay. This staff learned a hard lesson Sat. They suck. reality knocked on Beck and Paps door and the collectively crapped their pants. Time for Bo to ease up the scheme. Go hat on hat. get the athletes on the field even if it means that the seniors last game was that debacle that was the most embarrassing loss in Husker history IMO. Swallow that bitter taste, that is not defeat it is your pride. get some help. Make some calls back to your buds in the SEC. see what works. Take the reigns and tell Paps he can sit this one out. Tell Beck what he will call. actually coach. Be the head coach, not some innocent by-stander that you were on Sat. Neighbor is GA fan. He says team doesn't care about this game. Consolation prize at best. Says they will go down to have a good time. Winning is an after thought. I have no faith that Bo will have the team ready. I do think we can win. No one is unbeatable. welcome to the board. Hope we beat y'all.
  17. Would that surprise you? If we do some firings, IMO some are warranted, the hires need to be "splash" hires for sure.
  18. Imagine if Enunwa had laid him out. Dude might have been seriously injured.
  19. This^ I can not believe that not one Husker OL got in his face or threw a punch. Same with the dive at his knees. We are one physically soft team with no nasty. Bell plays nasty, Quince plays nasty. That is what we need.
  20. Despite Wisconsin putting it on film all year, I can understand a Bo Pelini coached team not being prepared for it coming into the game. This is a Bo Pelini coached team, after all. But after the first couple times they had staggering success with it, you'd think our staff would realize that maybe they'd run it again? Maybe attempt to adjust to it at some point? Perhaps I should temper my expectations. This is what I find comical with our staff. An offensive play does well and the opponent continues to run it. We find a play or formation that works consistently when ran and don't use it again because the defense will expect it! The diamond formation always works and we rarely see it No diamond, no toss sweep, no making their LB's go side line to side line. We just went full stupid in that game on both sides of the ball. You gotta try...if they stop it use it to set other plays up. You can't just abandon it. The best offensive minds are not thinking of what play to call now they are thinking of what play will setup plays for the next 10 downs. We play checkers and the best play chess. It is obvious I really thought that some of the stuff Beck showed during the season was put on film to make DC's think and to set up another play. I was completely wrong. Guy does one play at a time with no plan of it setting up anything. Not to mention switching before they stop it.
  21. Husker shirt on today. Still my team. Support the kids.
  22. Great measuring stick for us. a chance for a bowl after missing two under Cally. A chance to prove that this staff is competent and surely not as stupid as they appeared last night. A chance for the kids to leave with some pride. They have got to feel horrific today. I know I would. I would want a shot at someone, anyone to show the fans and country that we are MUCH better than we showed last night. Most importantly, a chance to show recruits and their parents that we are worth choosing over Wisky, Michicken or OSU. After last night, I would not be surprised to have lost some recruits.
  23. We may not "belong" there but it is a bowl game nonetheless. Let us all not forget where this program was, and how it's fan base felt when we didn't even get to play in a bowl game 2 out of 4 years. Nebraska needs to get back to being NEBRASKA. This sounds cliche I know, but what I mean by this is that we need to get back to that mentality where we would bring our A-game (every ounce of each players physical & mental talent) no matter who we played. There was a time not so long ago where Nebraska didn't give a damn who they played or what conference they were in. They would just strap up the helmets and play whoever was next on their schedule. And everyone playing in the game, attending the game, or watching/listening to the game at home would know that whether win or lose, Nebraska would play a physical style of football for 4 full quarters. This is what we must regain. This program can handle loses, but not embarrassments. After last night's embarrassment this notion of Nebraska getting back to being NEBRASKA might seem like it's impossible, and I agree that it will take time to get back to the kind of elite football that we crave from this program. But this has to be the goal going forward. Bring back a more punishing rushing attack, simplify the defensive scheme to let our players play faster and with more confidence, and let the chips fall where they may. Finally, and most importantly let us never....EVER....take for granted being in a bowl game at the end of a season.....even if the opponent we play is more talented. We do need to go back to being NU. Was trying to explain to co-workers how our identity is, to a degree, wrapped up in the success or failure of our program. Hard for folks who have Pro everything. I know that sounds cliche, but if you didn't grow up in Nebraska, it might be hard to understand. When Borland slammed Martinez and another dove at his needs and there was no repercussions, I really saw that this staff and team do not have that "fire". Back in the day, either of those incidents would have resulted in a penalty for the entire OL going after those guys. We used to be feared. We were mean and nasty. Not cheap shot artists, just junk yard mean. We need to get back to a smash mouth running attack. This spread or whatever it is works. Sometimes. I watched Bama beat GA with smash mouth. Watched in disbelief as Wisky put up over 500 yrds ON THE GROUND. We have become soft and lost. Again, if you are new to the Huskers 2000's onward, you have missed what they used to be. We won games before they were even played. Teams feared us. Iowa proved passing won't always work on the plains. TO knew this and designed a play scheme around this. How many teams run the spread or it variations? I would guess 70%. How many run a base smash mouth? Hardly any. Running the spread, we are competing against a lot of schools for recruits. Get shorter, less recruited bulldogs who can move the pile. Running opens up the passing game. Just ask Gill, Frasier, Crouch, Frost etc....... Folks say Bo's scheme is not to complex. BS. When Wisky went in motion, they looked to the sidelines and pointed at each other trying to get lined up. A simple scheme allows you to flex. We broke. the guys were lost. Action is faster than reaction. We are currently playing a read and react complex scheme. PJ Smith, in the post game, said that the D is predicated on everyone doing their job. If one guy makes a mistake, it is 6. THIS IS A COMPLEX scheme. Why can other teams throw in a 3rd string QB and win. Or the kid form NW last year. Or any other player that has stepped in and looks like a world beater against us? The reason, IMO, the D is so complex, it leaves little room for change and less for error. Unsure what will happen. we are in a trick bag. You really can't fire a 10 win coach. He is one of now only 2, IIRC, that has now won 9 in the last 5 years. The staff, IMO, is another issue. Bo has surrounded himself with inexperienced persons' and it is telling. Our inability to counter Wisky is proof. Further proof is the inability to even design a different offensive game plan. Bo needs to either hire some experience or swallow his pride and reach out to some folks. Get some help. Go back to school. Talk to Biliema and figure out how he did what he did or better yet why. Look at teams that win the tough games and the big ones. Look at bring back a psychologist. Make the kids and staff accountable. Miss a tackle sit. Miss another one, sit a series. 3 strikes and you are out. Same with fumbles. Martinez leads, for the 3rd year, fumbles in the FBS. FIX IT BO. You do not win by being the most mistake prone coach in the FBS. Copy McBrides success for personnel. Speed, tackling and size. Copy Stoops and only recruit kids who can contribute day one. If they need to develop, pass. Lastly, back on track, GA will be a great test. They can run and have the #2 QB in the country passing. Great way to build into the off season or a way to lose our recruits. Anxious to see how the staff rebounds. Last night was the largest coaching failure I have seen at NU (fan for 30+ years) and one of the tops of all time.
