Mainly the usual reports from Elliott. Liked his visit. Talked with Hughes a lot. Impressed with our crowd.
Set to OV to Oklahoma on November 20. Also looking to visit USC, Texas, and Michigan.
"On a roll" may be a stretch. But at least holding their own.
It didn't seem to me like the B1G was doing this well. So I guess that's a plus.

The Game - Pick one B1G football team to win each week. If you pick a team that loses, you're out
The Catch - You can only pick each team once per year
The Prize - Bragging rights and the admiration of all your friends
Post you pick before kickoff of that team's game.
There are basically only conference games left but just in case, you can only pick a winner for a game between two B1G teams. You don't need to save a team for the CCG.
Followed up a 6 tackle, one sack performance with a four tackle, two sack performance. I think we may have something here.
He currently has 14 tackles and 4.0 sacks through four games. One sack per game is awfully good so hopefully he can keep the pressure up.
He obviously sealed the game yesterday but he may have actually saved us. They needed a TD and a two point conversion just to force OT but they were in a pretty good spot with their tall WR single covered down the left side. That was going to be a Hail Mary to the end zone if Freedom gets there another second later.
I heard Kevin Williams and Kevin Maurice may have been hurt. Anybody hearing anything?
Williams left early but came back.
I saw Stoltenburg playing DT in the 4th so maybe someone was dinged.
I noticed Stoltenburg in there quite a bit later in the game as well. Wasn't sure if they were just trying something new of if someone was injured.
The only thing that saved us yesterday was Southern Mississippi apparently has the dumbest Offensive Coordinator in the history of college football.
Despite three games showing us to be VERY vulnerable to the deep pass and (now) the #5 QB in the nation in terms of passing yards, he spent the first three quarters calling about the most conservative game plan imaginable.
Through the end of the third quarter, they had 20 rushes for 18 yards and 22 passes for 202 yards. Why they continued to run the ball when they were having absolutely no success is mind-boggling. And - by my count - they had only thrown the ball farther than 10 yards downfield three times. They resulted in a 50 yard completion, an incompletion and a pass interference call. Most of their passes were swings and screens - almost nothing testing us down the field.
In the fourth quarter he finally got to the part of his playbook that had the deep passing game in it. IN THAT QUARTER ALONE they went 12 for 20 passing for 245 yards and two touchdowns.
I have no idea what he was doing the rest of the game but Banker should send him his game check.
Honest question - has anyone actually watched Michigan State play enough to know that we're even ATTEMPTING to run the same types of coverages they are? Or are we just taking someone's word from it from 8 months ago.
I am extremely doubtful that this is what they run. But I haven't watched them enough to know.
thats not doable st this point. Were 4 games in. At this point all you can do is make adjustments within your overall philosophy.
Or can you? I just cant imagine a system change in the middle of the season would be anything but disasterous. It aint intramurals brotha.
It is most definitely do-able. It won't happen but it could be done.
What's the worst that could happen - we have trouble adjusting to a new scheme and end up DEAD LAST in the country in pass defense? Whoops.
The 4-3 Cover 4 is what I expected to see when they talked about "Quarters" coverage. But that's not what we are running. We are not running any of those things. We are running either Cover 0 or Cover 1 - we seem to switch back and forth between the two depending on play call.
We are not playing zone defense - at least not with our DBs. We are playing almost exclusively man-to-man with (usually) one safety playing zone. Sometimes the safety has the deep middle of the field (Cover 1) - that is how Getty got the pick against South Alabama. Sometimes we are playing what I would call Cover 0 which is no deep safety. The safety that does not have man coverage responsibilities does come up toward the line of scrimmage and take some sort of zone coverage - people have called it a "robber" coverage. That is how Gerry got the pick against BYU.
