  1. Calling for a coach is common anywhere, don't think it just happens at Nebraska, if people don't like the way the program is being ran and the direction it's headed they'll voice their opinion, the same way people who think the program is heading in the right direction and the current coach is doing just fine are at every program. It happens everywhere folks.
  2. Congrats to Urban Meyer, and Ohio St. makes quite the transition that nobody in the conference wanted to see happen and they will stay a true BCS contender with him at the helm. The Nebraska staff will need to step their game up with him in the conference.
  3. If that's true, that's too bad about Carnes. I'm surprised about Heard as wasn't he the young man who NU worked with as far as academics to get him in here? That's too bad though. The saddest thing about these transfers if they are true (imho) is if Carnes and Heard aren't grasping the playbook here, what makes them think it will be any easier any where else? If they transfer they will also have to sit out a year-right? If that's so, then why not stay here and work to get better? Yeah it's always difficult because there's always multiple factors going into transfering whether it be playing time, home sickness, not getting the playbook, and more things that seem to enter the mind of 19 year old kid. If the names that have been mentioned do leave I will wish them best of luck, but I absolutely hope they all stay and develop into great football players, don't like to see great talent leave your program.
  4. Sounds like Carnes has one foot out the door, and that may have been a factor in him not playing Friday against Iowa (big loss if he leaves). Also been hearing Braylon Heard may be considering a transfer as well.
  5. Completely agree. Bo turned the team around. And he did it FAST. People forget how bad the program was just a few years ago, everyone seems to be drooling for an instant championship. I think most people here need to stop getting their NC hopes up every freak'n year and just enjoy the season. It's unreal how ridiculous people's expectations are on this board. I don't think anybody's particularly disappointed that we didn't compete for a national title this year, because I don't think any remotely objective Husker fan thought we were capable of that. People might be a tiny bit disappointed in that, as they should be - if it doesn't hurt to know there are other teams out there better than you, then the competitive edge isn't where it should be. That said, the thing people are disappointed about is that we didn't compete for a conference championship this year. And it's not like people are expecting an "instant championship." It's Bo's fourth year in the program, he's had the team in CCGs the previous two years, and the Big Ten was vulnerable this year (no truly elite teams). We're Nebraska, and we haven't won a conference championship since 1999. Fans that are disappointed in that are hardly being impatient. I'll be way more worried about the state of the fan base when they aren't disappointed after a season like this one than I will be when they find a season like this one not quite up to standard. P.S. By the way, you can be disappointed in the outcome of the season and still be proud of the team. I'm proud of the players and the coaches for what they did this year - how they carried themselves on and off the field. I mean, I can't think of a single off-the-field incident, and that is pretty damn incredible. In their first run at the B1G, they took down Ohio State, Michigan State, Penn State, and Iowa - that's pretty good, even though it didn't get us the division title. Now, I hope those guys get to work, win their bowl game, take a short break to reflect on both their successes and their failures from this season, and then get the heck back to work to bring a conference championship trophy back to Lincoln for the first time since 1999. Agree, agree, agree, it's not time to drop our standards quite yet. +1 great post
  6. Garrison and the rest of the guys that have come on board this year are the ones who made Cotton's line look so impressive, I look for Barney to be taking a different job with the university at season's end and bring aboard another coach (doesn't have to be O-line).
  7. FAU is looking at Carl as one of their top candidates for the job, interesting, I believe this all the way, just suprised they're interested in Carl.
  8. So the fact that Burkhead looked dinged up against Michigan, and that depth along the defensive line has been hit hard because of several injuries, means these are excuses? Not reasons or substantiated facts? I'm sorry, but I don't agree. There are many things we can point to about this team that can explain why they're inconsistent, but there's no way you can sit there and tell me that our injury-ridden defensive line isn't a reason we're struggling but instead an excuse. An excuse is "blah my mind wasn't in the right place". A reason is "I didn't play well because I have a torn muscle." There's vast differences between the two. I will never make excuses for the team, but I will substantiate opinions with what I believe factual information, in order to try and understand why a team played well or not. At some point the players have to be held responsible for their performances on the field. Coaches can only do so much. The players need to hold one another accountable and make sure they're not letting the team down by playing poorly. As ladyhawke said, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink. That said, I think the coaches need to step up here and institute that kind of mindset into the players. If one player fails, the whole team fails. They need to teach the players to hold one another to high standards. Do you think the depth chart needs to be reevaluated iyo?
  9. There's a lot of people on here that are o.k. that we have a mediocre football team with a less than mediocre coaching staff that didn't live up to our goals we set out to get this season (you know win the division/conference title, get back to a BCS bowl, show the new conference that we're Nebraska and here to own the Big 10). But hey Nebraska is back and we are here to stay....an average football program just like we've been since 2002.
  10. We aren't preparing another QB because our current one is a freaking sophomore! Our current one isn't that great, but I see why you don't think Carnes should be getting reps (just let him dominate the spring game while the starter can't hit anything), since Taylor is so young every snap he takes is still something to build off of and learn from. Though I hate that argument since in reality Taylor is a junior and should be able to read a D beyond his first read by now (I don't care if it's a new offense, you have to read a defense in any offense), I understand the arugment just don't agree with it.
  11. I like the the thread but these repsonses are...
  12. It's interesting to say the least...
  13. I don't think any firing or hirings need to take place this year. We just got rid of the one real problem last year when we let Watson go. Beck does get more than a year to try to develop his offense doesn't he. New Secondary coach? New Linebackers coach? Young team......new coaches. Hell even Bo is a young coach. He's only in his fourth year in his first HC job and hey it just so happens he had the balls to take a job like Nebraska as his first HC job and try to live up to the impossible standards Husker fans have. I've been frustrated too, but what the hell do people think, we fire this staff, hire a new one, and win a title immediately. Get real. The defense has kicked but since Pelini got here. I truly can't tell you why this season fell apart for those guys, but I have to think they will get it turned around. If they don't then we could talk about some changes in staff. But right now I think things are so new for this program how can we want change already? New coaches, new players, new conference.........new everything. We still won 8 or 9 regular season games with all the changes. This staff gets a pass from me, as much as I've hated seeing them lose the games they've lost. Beck's not the problem, he's the one coach on the staff I actually give a pass. The rest of the problems stem from the hires that Bo made last year and the way we're losing football games and all the other distractions this program has. Cotton is just dead wood........Bo's new hires are pups, they are on a steep learning curve....some, as former high school coaches, Bo's pick of the litter. Right, I agree with that, the question becomes should that be the case, we are Nebraska, or has it changed to where that excuse doesn't work anymore? For me no we're still Nebraska and are close enough (time wise only a decade) to where we used to be that we should still be the big name playing on the big stage. Now if this trend continues another decade and we don't really win anything (conference titles, BCS bowl appearances), then yes I think the whole "this is Nebraska" thing starts to run thin, and that's what I fear the most and don't want to happen, which is why I want change.

  15. Im interested in who you think should be hired/fired.... Bo? Good f'ing luck finding anyone to replace him Carl? I don't think you're going to get Bo to fire his own brother.... Beck? We just hired him....give him a chance Cotton? This one I might agree with...but at the same time, I'm not sure who we hire to fill his place I hate morons who think people should be fired...but then they don't have any reason why, and they don't specify who should be hired in their place. They just say "Oh, we're not top 5 this year...someone should get fired...that will fix it..."... You have that little faith in our football program we couldn't get somebody as good or better to replace all those coaches, these rose colored glasses can't see you.
  16. I'll be rooting for us to beat Iowa and our bowl game, but even if we win that doesn't mean I think our problems are solved and firings and hirings shouldn't take place.
  17. I can't. He's already turned down Arizona and Stanford. He's staying at Boise State because of his son's battles with cancer. I believe Boise State has one of the best treatment facilities for his son's particular diagnosis. He's in indebted to Boise forever and I doubt he'll ever leave. We have an amazing child cancer center here.
  18. I read on this board and my employers are huge donors and i have heard mumblings supporting the rumor that Jamrog will be out as assoc. ad of football ops and that Cotton will be moved to that position and that Stai and Garrison will take over full-time off line duties. Ive also heard mumblings of Ganz future involvement as a full-time assistant.
  19. Care to expound upon that, friend? This is not me calling you on your sources, as has happened before, I just honestly don't know what you're referring to. At this, all I have to go on would be A) All the hide your wives jokes have some validity or B) Carl taking the fall for the poor defense this year, which I think is unlikely, myself. I would be much, much happier if that promotion of Barney to an Admin position goes thru... ! The whole off-field issues are very bad as many people know and in most cases is a fireable offense, also Bo and Carl have not been getting along this year.
  20. Say, you wouldn't happen to be cuckold-booster, would you? No way!
