  1. And amidst the Domers self serving nonsense we find the kernel of truth that is the real reason they want no part of the B1G. They know that they won't be competitive. It doesn't in regards to the BTN numbers but in the '100 year decision' aspect it is definitely a concern.
  2. The current ban isn't because of the actions of Pryor Co, that was handled with the 5 game suspension last year. The post season ban & scholarship reductions are due to Coach Tressel not coming clean about what he knew. You have it backwards... St. Mary's girls should be ecstatic that their inevitable rape at the hands of Notre Dame players won't be as 'angry' after the Irish suffer another beat down by Ohio State. 45-26 29-16 34-20
  3. It includes everyone who was a '13 verbal commitment as of the middle of last week. So anyone who has verballed since last Wednesday or so isn't included, and of course the numbers will change a bit over the next couple of months. The reason I initially took a look at the numbers was because there seems to be a feeling among Rutgers fans that they are going to dominate the middle of the B1G and one of the reasons given for that idea is that their recruiting 'much better' than the Sparty, Iowa, & Wisconsins of the league. Contrary to their belief their recruiting is right around the bottom of the mid pack teams so 'dominating' said teams is likely to be more difficult than they think. Conversely the Maryland fans are very negative about the Terrapins ability to compete in the B1G, yet their recruiting rankings have been almost identical to those of Rutgers. Remember that Hoke & Co pushed kids to give their verbal early in the process giving them a larger number of kids so far in this class than other schools. For example right now they have 23 commits, Ohio State has 17 & Nebraska 15. If you guys end up with a 25 person class this year you will have 82 total since '10. The reason schools can end up averaging more than 25 per year is attrition (injuries, transfers etc).
  4. After the two new members were announced I went back and checked to see how their recruiting has compared to the rest of the B1G. I added up all of the recruits from the 2010-current classes (2010 being the earliest year that will still have players around in 2014 when they start conference play). I thought some posters here might find it interesting. (* rankings are from Rivals) Edit: Fixed a couple of errors in the chart
  5. You might want to take a look at UCLA's freshmen entrance profile. BTW if you dig asian girls either of the schools will score off the charts.
  6. Current coach's poll: 1. Minnesota 2. PSU 4. Iowa 5. Ohio State 6. Illinois 9. Nebraska 13. Northwestern 14. TSUN 16. Maryland 23. Purdue Wisconsin & Rutgers are just outside the Top 25.
  7. Wouldn't a more fitting tribute show all the times he ended games standing on the sidelines after he quit on the team anytime things started going south?
  8. horsesh#t. TSUN didn't want 'them Catholics' in back in the 20's. So what? TSUN didn't want Sparty or the Cornhuskers in either. The second half is pure nonsense. The COP/C welcomed ND with open arms and the actual academics at ND relished the idea. ND isn't in the B1G solely because of the attitude of ND alums.... well that and the student body in the 90's who were told that joining the CIC meant the girls of St. Marys would be forced to have abortions. Oh it matters to their fans. They're not the swiftest moving bunch.
  9. Reunion for the 10th anniversary of the NC team. The University had almost nothing to do with it and Coach Tressel initially was hesitant to come out of concerns for propriety. It was the players from the 2002 team who organized everything & pushed him to show up. And that Wetzel article is garbage.
  10. What does a question about the Maryland & Rutgers marching bands have to do with the greatest rivalry in college football?
  11. Because the B1G didn't want to repeat the mistake of the Big 12 north. A small market ghettoized western division is not a good idea for the long term health of member schools. If the B1G stays at 14 for awhile I'd prefer pods to mitigate the problems inherent in a 2x7 league (namely rarely facing traditional opponents). Fixed pods: Ohio State, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana TSUN, Sparty, Northwestern, Purdue Floating pods: Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota PSU, Maryland, Rutgers Each team in the fixed pods would have a single locked opponent from the opposing pod: Ohio State - TSUN Wisconsin - Sparty Illinois - Northwestern Indiana -Purdue That would allow Nebraska to have a home & home with each team in the league every four years:
  12. How in the world can Kansas get out of the Big 12 GOR?
  13. I may be mistaken by I'm guessing that a poster named 'Bucky' with a badger for an avatar did not mean Ohio State when he said 'we'.
  14. Empty big house student section today.
  15. Nope. Missouri wrestling is now officially a member of the MAC. On a bit of a tangent I've long wished that the B1G & Big 12 would have an annual Duals tournament. That would be a great tradition to build between the top 2 conferences in wrestling (despite the Big 12 losing some of it's luster with Nebraska & Missouri departing). The freestyle challenge back in 2010 was nice but I'd love to see something that happens regularly and features the wrestlers currently in school.
  16. 1 Minnesota (7) 2 Penn State (3) 3 Oklahoma State 4 Iowa 5 Ohio State 6 Illinois T7 Cornell T7 Missouri 9 Nebraska 10 Oregon State 11 Oklahoma 12 Virginia Tech 13 Michigan 14 Northwestern 15 Maryland 16 Virginia 17 Central Michigan 18 Pittsburgh 19 Wyoming 20 Edinboro 21 Lehigh 22 Kent State 23 Old Dominion 24 Boise State 25 Hofstra Others Receiving Votes: Binghamton 107, Purdue 80, Rutgers 78, Iowa State 35, American 16, Northern Iowa 15, West Virginia 15. Step it up gentlemen there's simply no excuse for being ranked behind Missouri!
  17. To be fair they'll just blame that on the missed late spear that Isiah Lewis had aimed at Braxton. F Sparty.
  18. No real secret squirrel stuff here, just that some people have talked up his interest in Nebraska lately. The other schools consistently mentioned by him have been UCLA, WVU, Tennessee, Sparty, occasionally Louisville and of course Ohio State. Right now no one who is talking has any idea where he'll end up and he has consistently insisted he doesn't have a leader. Traditional wisdom has been he is Ohio State's to lose but as time goes by without him making a decision combined with fewer slots left and other pressing needs at other positions (LB, WR, OL) that is being questioned a bit.
  19. UNL's recent commitment aside, it's the middle of the season which is always a relatively slow period for recruiting. Not only do the coaches have other priorities taking precedence (you know like game prep) so do the HS kids (they have their own games to worry about). Things will start to pick up a bit now that the HS season is ending and more so between the BTCG & the bowls.
  20. Take this for what it's worth but there's been some talk that Nebraska is trending upwards for Munger.
