  1. The only thing that made this sweeter? It was against the Money Badger.
  2. Last big time coach that came from Youngstown won a Natty at The Ohio State University..... Happens to be the school's president, LOL
  3. LOL - here's a good read.... http://www.californiagoldenblogs.com/2013/10/17/4835886/oregon-state-beavers-offense-preview-mike-riley-sean-mannion
  4. Check this out.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYr5OLsZDps Had offers from UCLA, Arizona, Boise State, Cal, and Washington. Riley got him to come to Corvallis, Oregon. Was a 3 star, 5-10, 165 pound kid from Cali. Starters be damned. You better be talented and driven at the same time.
  5. Except a number of these recruits are coming to play within a system that fits their particular skill set and gives them the best opportunity to be successful. That is a decision often independent of the school and/or coach. Some (see Michael Rose's comments on twitter) are going to benefit greatly from the change - as will plenty of recruits. Others might not fit as well. And that doesn't have to have anything to do w/ the coach or school. Where a player plays is just as important in a commitment to most recruits as is who he's playing for. Don't underestimate the importance of name dropping when it comes to schools, just like coaches. Besides - 247 states that Fischer and Ron Brown recruited him. If he was that eager to play for certain coaches, it'd be his position coach that would be more important than the head coach.
  6. Think of it this way.... If a recruit came to play for a coach, and said coach is gone - then the young man is going to re-think his commitment. But if a player came to play for The University of Nebraska - then he's not going anywhere. Why try to convince a kid to be sold on you when he gave his support to the last guy who exactly the opposite of you? Isn't that a waste of everyone's time? What if he replaced a couple of players with folks that were better than the recruits that Bo got?
  7. Check this out... http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2014/10/mark_banker_on_not_receiving_c.html CORVALLIS -- Last week, USC coach Steve Sarkisian told reporters that he would call Oregon State defensive coordinator Mark Banker to "clear the air" about blocking technique that injured two Beavers players. Banker had questioned USC for two cut blocks -- he called them chop blocks at the time -- Trojans levied Sept. 27 on OSU defensive tackles Jalen Grimble and Noke Tago. Grimble doesn't expect to return until after the Oct. 25 Stanford game, while Tago is done for the season. After practice Wednesday, Banker had a lengthy response when asked whether he received a call from Sarkisian. Below is a full transcript of the answer
  8. At this point, I'm glad we weren't the sacrificial lambs lead to that slaughter on Saturday night. If Bo had gotten to that game, he'd have been fired if the outcome had been the same on Saturday night, LOL. That was that bad. Shows that it really wasn't that hard to do what needed to be done with Wisconsin. Keep contain on the outside runs for Gordon, defend the TE. Game. Set. PLAYOFF.
  9. I dunno. Spose it's up to the HC. Position coaches will have more of a relationship than a coordinator will. They're the first line of contact between a recruit and the school.
  10. I calls BS on that story. Dude been looking for a head coach probably since the Wisconsin game.
  11. Sending up some Timber... Lord....PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let Coach O come here.
  12. OMG, we have got to move Heaven and Hell to get Coach O here.
  13. I think he is stepping into a pretty difficult situation. We fired a guy who won 9+ games each year and had people on both sides of the issue. The Callahan/Pelini transition went much easier because almost everyone was done with BC. This transition will be a little tougher because there were still strong supporters of Bo....perception. The hire was nothing anyone thought so of course people are going to be nervous about this hire. The more I keep reading and hearing about this cat, I am pretty excited. I have to disagree with you that he will be eaten alive by the illuminati. The players will back this dude and he will bring in some solid coaches....I really hope! Stay the course my man!!! I dont think there were that many Bo supporters left. Whats going to make this transition difficult is the hire itself. We would all be singing a different tune had we landed a proven winner. We got the exact opposite and now everyone is "hoping" what we did is right. "Hope" is not a strategy (unless you are running for president). By making this hire the pressure cooker just got hotter for the simple fact that this guy is coming into an environment now were people are already skeptical. At the first sign of trouble this thing is going to turn on its head. Had we hired a proven winner that would not be the case. Again, I hope I am wrong. But you're making the assertion that Mike Riley isn't a proven winner. Given the significant disadvantages Oregon State faced in the Pac-12--probably the less talented team when compared to all but 2 or 3 teams (Wazzu, Colorado, maybe Utah), 93-80 is pretty solid, and a record I don't believe BP could have achieved. Mike is now the head coach at Nebraska, a team that talent wise, is probably the 3rd or 4th best team in the conference (Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State) but coaching wise probably had one of the worst staffs in the conference. It is within reason to assume that Mike will come in here and win. He has all the intangibles and now has the resources. I am making the assertion Mike Riley isnt a proven winner based on his record of past performance. You are making the assertion he is a winner by including a bunch of excuses in order to arrive at the hope he will do well. All I'm saying is we are at a point in this programs history where taking an unkown was not a wise decision. I hope I'm wrong. Gary Anderson is coaching the Wisconsin Badgers Football Team in his second season. He was second in the Leaders Division last season. He's playing for a conference championship his second season. If we're talking about past performance......by your argument, he should be exempt from that job, right? 4-7 4-8 4-8 7-6 11-2 That was his coaching record before coming to Madison. Even with his two seasons as Bucky's head guy, he's still only won a little more than half his games coached. Give the guy a chance. If he gets the right staff in place, he'll do just fine.

  15. If they got Coach O on the staff here, I wouldn't even bring him here to interview. Interview him over the phone, and tell him if he gets the job to just start recruiting right now at home. Then, when he comes up here to report for work, he can bring about 10 5 Stars with him
  16. That struck me as odd, too. You'd think he'd have a pretty full Rolodex by now. Yeah...I think he has been pretty isolated...but it still something that kind of bugs me a bit...1. Really well respected but might not know a lot of guys 2. Might be bringing most/all of his old staff 3. Offense is a hodgepodge/multiple Not the end of the world but just things that kind of made me go "hmmmm" He's been here a single day folks. Give him some time....he's got plenty of it. Thats just it...he doesn't have plenty of time. He is starting recruiting today, he said...time is up. Exactly. He doesn't have plenty of time, he needs to get to work yesterday. I,agree with you about all of your concerns. I was expecting him to win the press conference, but I wasn't impressed. I said last night that this hire seemed very callahanesque, after hearing this press conference and everything about this guy, he seems more Doc Sadler to me. Wow. Just Wow. You guys need to let him take care of business. He's got 40 more years experience than you and he knows what he's doing. He'll get his shot, but there is work to be done, little time to do it. The guy gets props for me for being the guy that drafted Drew Brees into the NFL. He also gets props from me for signing a beast like Steven Jackson. Also - for those of you that are wondering why Eichorst hired this guy:
  17. Owning up to stupidity. Wowsers. Too bad his HC couldn't do that.
  18. Scott Frost's current salary is $400,000. Coach O was making at one time $650,000 as an assistant coach. Riley is making just less than $3 mil. Tim Beck is making $700,000 a year. Do the math, folks. Just cause Frost wasn't offered HC doesn't mean he wouldn't come as a coordinator. And truthfully, if he's honest with himself, he needs to learn at the feet of an established HC first. Two years isn't enough time, no matter if he were here, at Bama, Auburn, or in Eugene.
