  1. Wow. I think the walls are closing in.
  2. I agree, anyone punching above their weight is just boring.
  3. A rivarly is the most important game on your schedule, right? That makes Minnesota the one true rival due to the single greatest trophy in college athletics.
  4. 4 wins following a black hole of a losing streak is the big difference.
  5. It's worth restating to you that the question is whether our democracy will survive, not the nation itself. (Though if democracy dies I'm sure states will be looking to secede.) I do believe you were misunderstood when you listed the Civil Rights Movement as something this country "survived", but you don't seem to realize the unique threat Trump poses. It's unlike anything this nation has ever seen. The checks and balances have been thrown out the window by a complicit House and Senate, they've given free reign to a destructive egomaniac. The insanity involving Russia and his obstruction of justice would have sunk him long ago if checks and balances were actually in place.
  6. @HuskerNation1 Any thoughts on the president encouraging violence here? Justified, I'm sure.
  7. I shouldn't have limited that statement to just the Republicans, the Dems could also put someone out there looking to tear down our democracy - it just seems a lot less likely. There is absolutely no line the Republicans won't cross in their support of Trump. If he were to attempt to extend his stay, by either pushing term limits or disputing election results, I doubt his party would fight him. The president needs to be held accountable. Simply is not the case in our current state of affairs. That needs to change.
  8. Going back to the thread's original question, I will say yes, the democracy will survive Trump. There's no way the entire institution collapses by the time he is removed from office. Long term though? I'm not so sure. It could die if the Republicans installed someone with these destructive tendencies who wasn't a total s#!t for brains. We need to fortify the checks and balances because they have clearly failed us.
  9. His black approval rating is at its highest point since the inauguration, 13%. Do you honestly believe that sounds like someone set to earn more than 8% of the black vote? The opponent will matter but he has done next to nothing to sell himself here.
  10. Being able to go 6-2 after a coaching change shows just how much better Trump is than Obama ever was.
  11. Lived on a farm until I went to college, nearest town was 6 miles away with a population of 400. Being a kid it was pretty neat having all that open space to do whatever you wanted. Go drinking out in the field without having to worry about anyone catching you. That's about the end of the perks. Having to drive like 15 miles one-way for school or to any store was terrible. My $6 an hour part-time job went completely towards $3.25 per gallon gas. Moved to town of 10,000 for college. Absolutely loved the small college town. Lots of stuff always going on, fun places to eat and drink at, ran into friendly faces on a daily basis, young population always present, shopping for just about everything I needed. Employment options were not good though. Worked a couple jobs there for 4 years after college and got paid way less than I could have elsewhere with very limited advancement opportunity. Moved away to the Twin Cities 8 months ago. So many different places I can work at, big events always happening, any niche hobby I have can be satisfied regularly, got myself a part-time job at a brewery and it's the bomb. I hate how expensive everything is, though I do get paid significantly more. I sort of enjoy that I have not once seen someone I recognize in public. I live really close to work so traffic isn't a problem. Crime isn't an issue at all either. Overall it's an upgrade, though I find myself missing friends and family back home. Farm life is the only time I wouldn't go back to. You have to be in a very specific situation to be happier there than you would be just about anywhere else. I could move back to a town of 10k but it would have to be for a great paying job.
  12. Trump only got 8% of the black vote in 2016, the single lowest percentage for any Republican in the past 40 years that didn't have to run against Obama (I only stopped at 40 years because Wiki stopped having the election demographics handily available - I'd guess no one has ever had a worse percentage aside from Obama's opponents). This coming while running against the immensely unpopular Hillary Clinton. Going on to be the single least approved president since they started tracking approval ratings, and running a blatantly racist administration, is not going to help whatsoever.
  13. Jeez, can't help but notice @HuskerNation1 had not one thing to say to that one...
  14. I only saw value in voting once Trump became a thing. Him being a less qualified president than nearly all of us aside, it seems pretty damn clear we've got a president that needs to be removed from office for their involvement with hostile nations and/or using the office to line their pockets.
  15. What would you call the Republican stance under Obama? 8 years of reaching across the aisle? Hell, they won't even try to work with anyone now.
  16. The rules are dumb, but we must uphold them at all costs!
  17. You're blaming the Democrats for the Republicans not being able to pass healthcare while they have had complete control of Washington for 2 years. Seriously? This coming after several years of them campaigning on fixing it. Seriously?
  18. Healthcare in this country is absolutely insane. We need to move towards what is working so well in every other civilized country when it comes to healthcare. (I'm sure you'll notice they are all in less debt than us too). Is expanding Medicaid the answer? I don't know. The entire system needs to be revamped. You sound like you are squarely against healthcare becoming affordable though.
  19. I don't understand why anyone bothers going on Election Day either. The first time I did vote I was surprised you could just go do it anytime, since the long lines seemed to imply that you had to do it that first Tuesday in November. I voted 3 weeks ago. Waltzed into the empty courthouse on a Monday morning, gave them my ID, filled out the ballot and was back to my car within about 5 minutes.
  20. The irony of you calling it bubble board. When's the last time you considered a differing view point instead of denigrating it? When's the last time you opened your mind and tested your beliefs? It certainly hasn't happened here, and I'm not sure why you keep coming back if you wouldn't consider doing either of those. Now, give your canned response complaining about filthy liberals while dodging any structured arguments.
  21. What do you have to say now that those easily drawn conclusions have been verified?
  22. Welcome back. Your break left a noticeable void. I need your hypocritical, cringeworthy, outright laughable statements in my P&R.
  23. Spoke like a true snowflake. (Sorry, I felt someone had to fill the void).
