  1. Oh, maybe Baylor realized that they have to actually try to win games and don't just get automatically awarded their average.
  2. "Bowl Bout Bares Baylor Bears" would have been a better title... hmm
  3. Wow. I guess not having a defense only works in a conference where nobody has a defense. I actually hope Baylor pulls this out, but they look pretty helpless.
  4. Michigan State Bandwagon Fan now That stand on 3 & 4 and then 4th & 1 won my heart.
  5. 'n gurly woulda broke that tackle. He woulda... not that cooper is bad, but he coulda broke that. He's like... man... gurly *swooooon*
  6. NU Is trying to lose, but Georgia just won't let them.
  7. That accurately sums up the "blame the media" mentality. "Ohhhh! If only the media weren't pointing out things that are wrong, then we'd be great!"
  8. A major bowl would be unbelievably positive (in that I don't believe it will happen). I guess I don't know what our schedule is next year, but I don't think that we'll be beating the best teams from the other division, but who knows? It really depends on the coin-flip chance of the team showing up and not melting down. But we'll at least win the three garbage games at the beginning, probably lose to Miami, Wisconsin, and Michigan State... (ETA: looked up the schedule at this point) Good lord, what a terrible (boring) schedule next year! When we moved to the Big Ten, I had this image of playing OSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, and Wisconsin; now, we're burning three weeks playing scrubby non-conference teams, a decent (maybe) non conference, and the rest of the time battling for the basement of the Big Ten. I like Northwestern, but ugh. Well, at least if I'm working Saturdays again next season I won't feel like I'm missing much. I mean, even if NU does win out, what does that even mean? If I were on the selection committee, I'd probably pass us over for a one loss team from a good conference, too. I don't remember the last time I cared less about seeing games. I'd rather work and get paid.
  9. Yep. Would anyone actually be surprised if Bo makes these changes with the media and refuses to make coaching changes? That seems to fit him perfectly. Sad to think that we will probably have to endure at least one more season of this. Everyone knows that the problem this year hasn't been the problems, it's been the media and evil, evil people on message boards talking about the problems.
  10. Here, let me connect the dots for you with a crayon: If a team in a major conference plays well for an entire season, then they can (and will) rise above their surroundings. The Big 8 was often called "the Big 2, Little Six", but that might have been before your time, so I'll give you a pass on that. The point was, (and is) that the reputation and respect afforded Nebraska and Oklahoma wasn't attached to how well the "Little Six" did, because Nebraska and Oklahoma could jump the fence and beat up anyone in the (then) Pac-10, SEC, or Big 10 more often than not...and EVERYBODY knew it. Here's the modern version of what I said above: Florida State is playing for the National Championship, even though they reside in the ACC...no one is saying they suck because most of their conference has five or more losses...because they can jump the fence and come pay your team a visit... Hope this is clear enough for you and the guy who likes "wrasslin"... ...bottom line this "our conference sucks so we do too" sounds Texas/Aggie/SEC and beneath us. Nobody is saying that we're bad BECAUSE the conference is bad. Mathematically, we will be "bad" next year if the conference is weak this year, which will have major implications for the post-season. If we were to go undefeated (haha) next year and have a weak SOS, we could be eliminated from the playoff. Sure, we can feel happy feelings for our good season and not care about the rest of our conference, but we don't get bonus points for being Nebraska anymore. However, seeing a team we lost to get beat by a garbage team is terrible. No, I'm not saying there is a valid football syllogism here, but that garbage team lost to teams we beat. The implication is that this is a flakey team in Nebraska. It just reveals more deep problems. Ugh. ETA: So there are really two things at play when we see other Big Ten teams get beaten or smashed in the post season: 1) What this will do to our SOS next season. 2) What does it say about NU as a team when teams we played close or had to scrape one out against lose or get destroyed in the bowl season by barely-qualified-for-bowls teams or teams that did "just okay" in their conferences? Yes, the first one is a perception issue, but a perception issue that matters. I couldn't care less about what some joe schmo Colorado fan thinks about NU, that's not important; what is important is what the computer machines think about our strength of schedule. That's still perception, but perception that has a real world impact on possible outcomes to the season. The second is how we, as fans, perceive the performance of the team here at the end of the season and how confident we are for the future and NU's potential standing on a national level.
  11. Says the guy who calls everyone a Bo Ass kisser. How about you keep it cordial instead of being a tool? Says the person who just called another person a tool. Says the guy that................Wait what are we doing here? Says the guy who doesn't know what we are doing. Says the guy who says what other guys say they know.
  12. The boosters are probably just happy that so many people are sitting at the games now and that makes for a more enjoyable experience for them. The really big boosters don't sit in regular seats. Standing is not an issue for people who pay for stadium expansions and baseball fields.
  13. Thank you so much for this. Let's not forget that the root of "fan" is "fanatic." It just means people who care *a lot* about a team-- are, now stay with me here, fanatical. They'll go through some emotional extremes, they might call for a head or two, they might love people you don't, but it's all with the same end goal-- to see their team win. The opposite of a fanaticism is apathy. A "real fan" (unsarcastically ) just cares a whole heckuv a lot. This might manifest itself in a variety of ways. I think that if someone is here and offering a solution for a perceived problem and wants to discus it, that person is a fan. Let's not try to draw lines between who is "real" and who isn't-- no one here gets to be the arbiter of others' devotion for the team. "Well, well, let's get on with it." -Sartre
  14. Criticism = hate... got it.
  15. Sandusky was the Penn State coach convicted of homosexual activities with underaged boys. Ron Brown doesn't approve of that. Some people take offense, I guess, of that stance and label that as homophobic, drawing an imaginary line somewhere that excludes Sandusky as homosexual. Hope this helps... You really are a misinformed bigot.
  16. I live 1500 miles away and I've seen them on TV every week. wish I only lived 200 miles so I could see them in person. Yeah, but Redmusky lives 1500 miles away and can only see them on TV. Things might be different if s/he lived within 200.
  17. I think fans and journalists should apologize to Bo for pinning him back into a corner. I've been appalled at the frenzy they stirred on this board and in articles across Husker sites. It's stupid and horrible. It's no fault of any fan or journalist that Bo can't handle adversity and well-deserved criticism with grace and dignity. Name a single program or head coach that is portrayed by the media as he is. Angry Bo. Every picture they print of him is nothing but fury. Every time I take a picture of my pet duck, it looks just like a duck! My duck is getting really tired of my constantly portraying him as a duck. He comes in, quacking and waddling, saying, "I do NOT sound or walk like that!"
  18. You punched a guy over his opinion about a college football coach? That's really, really sad. I don't have the words to express how repugnant that is to me. "I've been a Bo supporter from the beginning"
  19. You mean like Sandusky was discriminated against? Oh, this just made it easy to dismiss you and your views. Thanks!
  20. It discriminatory to not allow him to discriminate
  21. Poor, oppressed Christians-- they barely have more than 20 groups active on campus and represented at the university http://www.unl.edu/acrew/organizations
  22. If not, we'd have to start making pitches behind the line of scrimmage on, say, an option count for negative yards rushing for the QB, and that would just get all kinds of messed up
  23. why not use the number 5 why not use the average wins per season OH it would not for espn (extra stupid personal newsman ) Because everyone talks about the number of wins, and that's extremely misleading because "9 wins" now means "four losses." The "9 wins season" thing gets thrown around with no perspective. It's like comparing dollars decades apart without adjusting for inflation.
