  1. I guess this is how we know it's bowl season.
  2. I'm not really sure what your point is-- that TBIs aren't real? That TBIs cannot lead to severe changes in personality, loss of inhibition, impaired reasoning, which can culminate in aggressive, irrational mood swings? Do you think you'll be somehow vindicated if they do find evidence of severe brain trauma (I mean, that didn't happen at the time of his death)? Head trauma is very real and has long-lasting repercussions and to act like it's just somebody trying to-- what? Ruin football? That there is a cabal of neurologists and brain-trauma experts who are out to make your weekend somewhat less entertaining? There is a plethora of data out there regarding changes in violent behavior, aggressive acts, and suicide attempts after a TBI. The connection is pretty real and well outside random chance. That being said, I don't think that hit should have been flagged esp. if the suplex on Martinez wasn't flagged as well.
  3. Well, let's look at the bright side-- if they had merely been held to half their points and NU had scored 2 more field goals, we would be champions! So hold your head high!
  4. This is the only conference where people complain about officiating. Everyone else has it so much better with way better officiating that nobody ever complains about, when a flag flies, fans from both teams look at one another, nod, and say, "Yes, that was a fair call." Every instance of holding is called every play, and questionable calls are always reversed. Even opposing teams are happy when favorable but incorrect calls are reversed because they all know that their officiating is perfect. Oh to be in any other conference!
  5. I was just looking to see if anyone ever measured the dB level in Memorial Stadium and found an article that lists it as one of the top ten "most hostile" stadiums in college football. Then I saw it was from Bleacher Reports... then I read this: "In fact, Lincoln isn't the most populated city in Nebraska, but its population swells so much on Saturdays, it becomes one of the most populated cities in Nebraska on game day." Really? you couldn't even be bothered to fact check and just repeated part of the stadium mythos that you misheard? Lincoln, the second largest city in the state, becomes one of the most populous cities in the state on game day. Not participating in the loud/not loud argument, just wanted to share this info I found from a DB while looking for info on dB. ETA: though google did turn up this link ) http://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/46301-pump-up-the-noise/
  6. YES! Ugh! I hate HATE the cut-aways to sideline reactions instead of replays. They're trying to turn it into human interest instead of a sport, and that is not just ABC. I really don't care to see an extended shot of a coach on a sideline while the refs debate something-- show the replay. When they do the split-screen thing like it's a stupid gameshow or something... ugh. Is there really anyone at home clamoring to see more reaction shots and less replay? Was there ever a time when anyone here was watching a replay and yelling, "HEY! LET'S SEE THE COACH!" or "HEY! LET'S SEE THE OFFICIAL WATCHING THE VIDEO OR LISTENING TO HIS HEADSET!!!"? But how many times are we now yelling, "REPLAY!!!!"? Ugh.
  7. I had the game on but it kept cutting out, so I had the radio on, too. The local guys mentioned that fumble as a lucky bad call (not in those words, of course) a couple of times.
  8. If Denard stays in, we lose. Really. I think we win either way. I would have liked to have seen that game! This is definitely a time that I was thrilled to be wrong in my prediction about the outcome of this game, but, dang, I would have liked to have seen it with Denard for the whole game.
  9. Uh oh. Wisconsin just went down to MSU. I know these syllogisms don't mean much... but it's a little unsettling. This should be a good game at the very least!
  10. I get that he's mad, but I think he's being pretty irrational for being angry at the traveling fans for taking advantage of NW's athletic department's policy. He should be railing against *that* not against the people who bought the tickets. It's not like there was some big conspiracy between the athletic department and every NU ticket purchaser, he has to understand that, right? It's not like anyone (that I know of, anyway) was like, "Oh! Northwestern sells their tickets like THIS, let's all get together and buy them all up!" There are just ALWAYS thousands of NU fans who will want to buy tickets and will click the "BUY" button on your website or wherever to get them. They will buy whatever is offered. So the problem isn't with each individual fan, unaware of the purchases made by every other fan, it's with the AD selling tickets. Basically, I'm saying, don't be a dick about this, guy.
  11. Heh, I think every hit in that video would probably get 15 yards now
  12. What decent offense has NU stopped this year?
  13. Why can't mental mistakes be corrected in practice? Why are people talking about "mental mistakes" as though they're mutually exclusive with the sort of mistakes you correct in practice? That's ridiculous.
  14. What about 1 point wins over teams you should beat by 30 and at least two 30 point losses a year? That's where we are at now. Your statement is a far off land from reality. Winning 12 games by one point would mean we are able to win games against tough opponents in primetime when it counts. I would take that in a heartbeat. However, we routinely get dump trucked in those spots while leaving a giant sh!t stain on the field. For some reason, it's like this 1 point win over an unranked team has somehow negated the blowouts, like it disproves anything you could derive from a 30 point loss because they came back and barely squeezed one out against mediocre team who has bested powerhouses such as Indiana and Minnesota (the former was smacked down by Ball State). Yes, of course if I had a choice I would prefer an undefeated season to a season with 30 point losses. What kind of silly options are those? It's not the fact that it was a 1 point win, it was a one point win after two humiliating losses in the first half of the season. As far as a marker of where the team is, a 1 point win against Northwestern carries with it almost the exact same information a 1 or 2 point loss would have-- they are essentially equal teams. For all the times you can cite NU shooting themselves in the foot that game, Northwestern did the same. So many over-thrown-but-open receivers, dropped passes, etc. We got lucky that they were just a little bit worse than we were on Saturday. Yes, this is a "W," but it doesn't carry much meaning except that it's one more tally mark toward a bowl game. What does it tell us about how good the team is or how likely they are to secure more Ws to put in their W jar? If you look at it in terms other than just the binary, W-L dichotomy, it felt closer to a loss than a good win. Hell, I actually ended up feeling bad for Northwestern and not in the same way I felt bad for Pacific in the 90s. You do realize that the only reason NW wasn't ranked is because their name is Northwestern, right? If that were Texas, Notre Dame, or even Nebraska, they would have been ranked at least in the top 20, considering their only loss this year came to a quality, and improving Penn State team. Hell, if that were Notre Dame's resume, they'd probably still have been in the top 15. Of course, they lost to a Penn State team that lost to Ohio. They'd totally be in the top 15.
  15. Independent thinking is for losers!
  16. He gets millions of dollars. And? He has support. We're not talking about volunteer little league coaches.
  17. That's not the way football is played anymore. Hasnt been for over a decade. This isnt high school or pop warner. So the fact that we are ranked 5th in rushing yards means nothing I guess? Also great point look back at 1997 even T.O. had changed his offense a bit because they style of play was changing. I don't care if it's Northwestern, we won you all were going off how we were going to lose because our defense is terrible and we held them to 301 yards. The Huskers made mistakes but, they overcame them and that's the important part. Isn't ~301 yards just about their average if you remove the 700+ Indiana outlier? Penn State held them to fewer than 250. Even in games they've won they just go a bit over 320. So, I guess we're average. Points against, we're 72nd, so, yeah... kind of middle of the pack.

  19. Schedule more cupcakes and only 2 conference games so we can gloat about having 10 wins.
  20. Yes, only a "retard" would think that the huskers were bad.
