  1. Voted Lead continues to grow. 59.18 to 40.81 Good Luck with the contest and the rest of the way on the gridiron.
  2. Current: Ryne Reaves Past: Johnny the Jet Rodgers
  3. John Dutton DT in 5-2 set a member of the first two NC's was 6'8:" (1968/9 to 1971/2 I think)
  4. I do believe outside of a few, the posters on this board are absolutely clueless, and follow the lead of the rest of the sheep. To compare one year with the next is fruitless, no grounds to determine how any game will go other than the obvious talent on the teams involved giving one team an advantage, which doesn't always compute to victory on the field. It's off season and the fans that make football their do all end all are all full of s__t without a clue. I would even venture a guess that few if any of the posters on here pulled on pads even at the Jr High level. Just a bunch of arm chair Head Coaches and QB's. Yes I did play HS and JR College, just wasn't talented enough or fast enough to compete with the best. Did play on same team with a future Heisman Trophy winner in HS. What makes everyone think that Michigan State is going to be a loss. Without the 5 turnovers last yr, do you think MS still wins????? Same for Iowa for that matter... Does UCLA come back without Taylor being injured in first half, doubtful. Minnesota was just a plain old ass kicking by a team taken to lightly. I don't post on here much due to the fact that it's always the same few with bulls--t opinions, based on nothing other than what they hear from like minded fools. Started following the Huskers in '58, began drinking the kool-aid in 62.....in case you need assistance counting, that's 56yrs yelling GBR. I've seen some average and some of the best ever. This years team has the chance to be very good.... This is a very young and very talented team. If you can't see that, then you really are clueless.... if you do see it, then most of you jump on Pelini as the problem. The posters of this board (with a few exceptions, those in the know) aren't happy unless they have something to bitch about...GBR
  5. 6. If everyone just ignores Polo's constant drag on optimism, don't debate with him, let him spew his venom and leave it at that, the thread (s), because he does it on nearly every one, he'll get the message no one really gives a s--t what his opinion is. I know I don't. Here's to the fun of the spring game and the kool-aid flowing through-out the summer. We as fans need to have a little fun and enjoy our beloved Huskers regardless of the outcome next fall. Polo is nothing more than a troll in Scarlet and Cream... GBR
  7. I can't get over how every thread has one or two detractors that have the need to state Pelini is gone if he doesn't have a better season than last yrs. Get a grip people, Pelini isn't going anywhere, he's the HC and his job is safe unless he drops a couple of 6-4's the next two yrs. Like him or not, he's N's coach and fans with a Pelini hard on need to get over themselves. Try having some fun and enjoy the ride, your opinion means absolutely nothing is the great scheme of things. Negativity just happens to be the life blood of some people. That will never change regardless of how well the team does. If they bring home the CC, those same neg. fans will cry, we should have won bigger and gone farther, it's Pelini's fault and he should be let go and get (what they consider) a real coach in here. Enjoy Saturday, and have a great summer. GBR
  8. Didn't realize we were taking 24 this cycle. Who's leaving the program that allows us to take 24 and still be at 85. No walk-ons getting scholly's this fall? Rumor has it at least Burtch may be getting one, though it may not come until senior year.
  9. Didn't realize we were taking 24 this cycle. Who's leaving the program that allows us to take 24 and still be at 85. No walk-ons getting scholly's this fall? Rumor has it at least Burtch may be getting one, though it may not come until senior year.
  10. So basically what you're saying is, when a receiver looks up field before securing the ball, or rb's fumble when carrying the ball like a loaf of bread, dumb penalties, are part of the basis in which you have developed your theory that, these problems are all staff related, it's not a player trying to make a bigger play, perhaps lose concentration at critical times, or just a great athlete that sometimes chokes. Yes, these types of unforced errors (usually lack of concentration) bears fault on the players as well as the staff, the staff is beginning to develop a little depth with that the competition rises and pulling a player with stupid errors becomes an easier task when #2 is just about as good as #1. Human nature takes over, young men play with a greater intensity with another young man wanting to take his spot. Have you not noticed this with your ability to diagnose a situation and have the right solution. Sorry for the sarcasm, I just couldn't help myself, I'm not usually like that.
  11. 1. Grading recruiting before they've played a down at a school is slightly less misguided then grading an nfl draft class a days after the draft concludes. 2. Considering we as fans knew Nebraska was moving to the Big Ten in June of 2010, I'm going to assume Bo knew before then. This was plenty of time to switch philosophy/recruiting to a different conference. And if. Nebraska truly has aspirations of competing nationally, I'm not sure why this change took three years to adapt to, other than incompetence. 3. At least we haven't heard that before. And who is to blame here for Taylor's three years? Taylor? Or the newly great recruiting staff that "couldn't put another d1 QB on the roster? It's not Taylor's fault his coach foolishly put all of his eggs in Bubba Starling's basket. Or this 4 star talent in Cody Green could never "get it". Heaven Forbid they coach these kids. 4. "Nebraska, where you get paid like you're elite to learn on the job. And if you don't learn, half the fanbase won't care!" 5. See #4 6. The standard defense to Bo is "TO needed time too". Seems like that crowd wants to do that comparison more. 7. The People of the Free Democratic Republic of North Korea appreciate this. 8. Please to explain how, if I am "negative", I am therefore uneducated. Because I don't agree with you? 9. Do you ever complain about your Restaurant service? Better not, because you are spoiled beyond recognition if you do. Do you even know how hard it was to eat in the 1930's? 10. Compare this team in 09 and 2010 to last season, no way can you say there was an improvement in any aspect. d ranked 4th-20th. Pelini, in his first six seasons, faced 19 teams that finished (or currently stand) in the Top 20 — 3.2 per year. He’s 4-15. And only two games have come against Top-3 finishers. http://sports.omaha....borne-v-pelini/ Same old complaints, nothing new, you don't like Pelini that's obvious. Never intended to associate intelligence with neg comments. Yes, I have a good idea how hard things were in the 30's, My mother and father we young teens at the end of the 30's. You can point to 09/10, I'm referring to the classes Bo first brought in compared to the last two three. I'm not referring to the athletes that aren't even on campus, or even the redshirt freshman yet to play, If you can't see an improvement in the overall talent on both sides of the ball the past three season, then perhaps you need to step back and take a look from outside the box you're in. It amazes me the number of fans that forget so much, TM was the only option at QB if you recall, Green transferring knowing who couldn't unseat TM, another medical reason, you don't have to lose much to have an empty cupboard. I've mostly read and enjoyed the banter, I just needed to voice my opinion on the negativity on the board. A big part of that being you. I don't know how you take it. Your team is inferior talent wise, the staff is incompetent, we should be winning or at least competing for NC's... feel entitled much? You may want to consider reaching out to another team, one that can make you feel good on Saturday night and Sunday. By the way, Good luck with that. I don't want to get in a pissing contest, or show any disrespect to anyone. If I've offended you by my remarks, I sincerely regret doing so. Let's have fun just following our team without all the BS..... Perhaps you're just one of those argumentative souls. GBR
  12. The vast minority has always stuck out. Their negative outlook on everything, never forgetting the bad moments, always forgetting the good. I for one am tired of the Bo bashing, the constant bickering between the real fans and the bandwagon jumpers, any thread they negative can come out does, and by the same posters. 1. The recruiting is developing nicely 2. The defense is coming of age after three yrs in B1G 3. The offense has a chance to be really good, we now have more than one QB. Taylor was a great athlete, and the only D1 QB on roster. Thank God for TM for the three years he bridged the gap with an empty cupboard. 4. The staff is gaining familiarity, seems to be better at recruiting as well. 5. Bo is still learning the position of HC, as do all HC's through-out their career. 6. Bo is not TO yet, so stop the comparsions 7. Bo is our coach, get behind him and stopped your whiny little ego mutterings, find the positive and become a real fan, otherwise we can do just fine without you. 8. If the real fans would just stop taking the bait on the negativity stated by the same posters, they would either go away or stop posting the negative opinions, no one continues to post without a response to their uneducated opinions. 9. Today's younger fan has been spoiled beyond recognition, the expectations are all mid 90's. Fwiw, to you younger fans, it was brutal going thru the late 50's early 60's, mid seventies, late 80's early 90's, and having that 10-0 record against a bunch of sisters of the poor, and lose the last two games of the season against good teams. I'm not even going to discuss the disappointments of the 00's. 10. We have a team on the upswing, talent is being upgraded, the coaches are becoming comfortable with their responsibilities, HEY, it's time to have fun again. GBR
  13. Nebraska's greatness began with a dynamic winning coach that just happened to bring on a non paid assistance in 1964, after two 6-4 seasons, Devaney promoted Tom Osborne to offensive coordinator for the 69 season, with TO's offensive mind and Devaney's Defensive mind, greatness was born. Back to Back NC's in TO's first two yrs as OC. I watched a two decade losing team come to greatness under Devaney & Osborne. Then we enjoyed Osborne's greatness until January 98. Hall of fame coaches don't grow on trees, they either have it or don't. Pelini needs to find the offensive genius to complement his defensive genius. Husker fans need to display a little patience until that happens. Pelini, is becoming a better HC before our eyes. His recruiting has improved, especially after moving to the B1G, the caliber of athlete has improved, with the players he came to the B1G ten with, which were recruited to play in the B12, as well as the next two classes. All teams deal with injuries, however, the Huskers have had a rash of important pieces and large numbers go down in the last 4 yrs. It's remarkable some of his teams have reached 9 wins. Bo is assembling as great staff, we may not approve of his choices, which matters not. Everything takes time, especially for a first time head coach. Fans calling for his head are people that need instant satisfaction, not willing to work for what the get. Yes, as a fan we work with the team for success, we cheer them on to pump up the adrenaline, to play out of their minds. Sitting on your hands, complaining like a child " I want it and I want it now", serves no purpose or interest. In the ideal world, I would be head coach at Nebraska with Pelini as DC, Callahan as OC, then I'd let them suggest who they wanted as assistants. Enjoy life with the Huskers, be thankful you aren't a cubs fan or worse yet, a jayhawk. I believe Pelini is on the right track in all ways. I also believe the next 2 or 3 yrs will be exciting times, much like the late 50's early 60's (without the success today's team enjoys of course), greatness is on the horizon. Yes, I always drink the kool-aid, and I truly believe what I've stated, win or lose. they are my team. GBR
  14. I'll concede that. But if you think that getting rid of a guy that just went 8-4 would be a slam dunk, out of this world hire, we're gonna have to agree to disagree. Both USC and texa$$ (better jobs than DoNU) went way down their lists to get guys to fill those jobs, so I can't imagine that Nebraska would have pulled a better candidate that those two. Personally, I think that Strong will do ok at texa$$, but I can't imagine Sark being a great hire at USC. Doesn't have to be better than them. It just has to be better than the current person. 74, as a person without a dog in this fight I have to tell you. You really are struggling here. You aren't going to change their minds, they aren't going to change yours. At this point, unless somebody has some new evidence to use to back up their side of this then I say we put it on the back burner until some actual football games are played. Those Saturdays in the fall are what are going to show program trajectory. Here's to one fan hoping the Huskers win the damn B1G and I don't have to think about or listen to this for a year. +1
  15. Does everyone not realize the same person that hired Miles, hired Bo. I for one am sick and tired of all the Bo bashing. Everyone keeps saying he's had 6 yrs to right the ship. Well kiss my A---, he's had to change conferences, change his recruiting strategy, all while being a first time head coach. Miles came in with a track record of been there and done that. Comparing Nee to Bo is like comparing apples to oranges.. the posters on huskerboard must be terribly bored. Mostly, Bo bashers and the graduated Martinez debate. I've enjoyed Huskerboard give and take, but let's move on to more insightful football info, not the repeat of the same old s--t. GBR
  16. Had to go with 14, had 12 of the all time greats, included LSU being a childhood favorite, and Oregon to even things out. The class of College Football No divisions, No non conference, play round robin with top four teams playing for NC. Nebraska Oklahoma Alabama Florida State Georgia Ohio State Miami Penn State Michigan Notre Dame Texas USC (Trojans of course) LSU Oregon (had to get to even #) It wouldn't be long before all the talent ended up in this conference, with the winner possibly having 4 losses. How much fun would this conference be? 7 games a week pitting the best against the best. Going undefeated would have to have divine intervention.
  17. What I've noticed is everyone is so hung up on the coach being the one that takes the team to the top....... Look at the evidence and it's obvious the coach has some value, but the players are the important factor especially the QB. TO had good teams with average QB's, when Tommie came to NU, TO had the exceptional player he needed. Auburn's title was all Cam Newton, Texas had Vince Young, what both had were good defenses to go with them. Tommie Frazier had great defenses as did Scott Frost, Most NC are won with great defense and a QB that's an above average college player. All this credit given to the coaches is BS, yes they do have some influence in the outcome of games, but they don't step on the field and play. How many of you posters actually played. Saban couldn't do squat before he got to bama and had the choice of top talent. Meyer did ok at his stops, but he is a master recruiter, yes much better that Saban IMHO. Coaches are valuable in assembling the talent, getting them to buy into the system, and keeping the players to toe the line. other than that, they have little influence in the outcome of most games. Albeit coaches like saban who call for a long field goal that he knew his player couldn't make, and give the game away. Coaches do have some input. Let's stop placing all the credit and blame on the coaches. It's the right players playing together that bring home the hardware. GBR. As a side note, I'm hoping JS is our next TF.... the D and the recruiting is improving, it's only our fourth year in a new conference, I look for great things from Big Red, if they don't happen, then they don't. I for one won't be slinging arrows at the coaches or the players. They did the best they could with what they had to work with. Sometimes S---t happens and that' life. Roll with the punches and stop being a bunch of finger pointing cry babies. Especially if you've never pulled on pads, which by your post I doubt many of you have.
  18. Seems he has great vision, some wiggle, some speed. Not sure he isn't in the same mold as JR, not as much talent, at least not on the film I've seen. I watched JR in person so I have a little more to go on. If he receives offer, my guess is slot receiver much like JR.
  19. So how are you guys feeling nowadays? - Do you feel more at home in the Big Ten Conference? Yes - Has your pining for the old Big XII Conference been remedied at all, or do you still miss those OU/KSU/MIZZ/CU match-ups. ONLY OU - If the Big XII and the Big Ten made a clean deal for you to return to the Big XII tomorrow, would you be happy about it? H___L NO - What is one perception about the conference that has changed since you've been a member? It isn't in any way a weak conference. I'd even go as far as to say, No team in any conference could come into the B1G and win the conference immediately. The weekly grind against 300 lb linemen on both sides of the ball takes it's toll even when you win. One game ie... a bowl game can be dealt with ( ask Bama how well Oklahoma handled the big boys), but not every week! It's comparable to playing a bowl game every week, with 4 days prep - My least favorite school in the Big Ten is, Indiana, because, haven't played them yet. - How do you feel about Maryland and Rutgers joining the conference. Who would you rather have seen? Not the upgrade one would expect from the B1G athletically, I can see real struggles for both teams, Nebraska fans assumed they would be able to play as well in the B1G, surprise, surprise, all new every week. - What is your favorite B1G football stadium? Memorial Stadium Lincoln, not enough trips to decide which one is second,What impressed you about it?"There is no place like Nebraska" What was your least favorite? same as above What changes have you seen to UNL? Have there been any notable improvements yet as far as improved academics, more infrastructure, better sports teams? Directly related to the move, I'm not certain, the new facilities were planned before the move, new coach right at the beginnning (well almost). Lots of factors involved in the improvement of the Basketball team, I'm fairly certain B1G play may have had influence on recruits. As reference earlier of not having full membership and what that entails. - How has the move affected your brand? It's been a rough couple of years by your standards, but do you think the Nebraska brand is better off now that it would have been had you stayed in the Big XII? Are your struggles due to the new conference? The coaching? The players? The brand is what it is, I don't see much change either direction. It doesn't help that the B1G is misjudged on talent present, check out the NLF rosters, the B1G is well represented. I'll expound on an previous response, The B1G is Nebraska style football pre-Callahan. Nebraska had its difficulties in bowl games, for the same reasons B1G teams don't fare well in bowls. Bama plays big boy football against good teams they are very familiar with, when they went up against a B12 offense that was rocking, and a D that was relentless. Speed, (speed of the plays, certain players, the game, big boys get tried quickly at that speed) is what kills the big boy teams in bowls. Unless you're the 90"s Huskers and had both. Have a great day. You have one as well, welcome aboard. You'll find a little to much pessimism for my taste, but the info is second to none.. I am however, a certified Scarlet&Cream Kool-Aid drinker.
  20. Really like to see the twins in the middle or at either end of the D line. Players like these and the ones already committed (assuming the committments remain) for 15, continue the rise back to national prominence. Be a Blackshirt Mr. Davis and toss some bones..GBR
  21. Perhaps, history is repeating itself, how about, Peters Brothers, Selmon Bros, Okla 70s, Really like these two, see big things in their future. They don't have to learn how to play together which gives them a huge advantage, as history indicates. Doesn't hurt to have the talent to go with it.
  22. My prayers go out to Connie Yori, hopefully this is just a stress related incident.
  23. If you want to teach religion class in public schools, fine. Do it. Teach a class on ALL of the major religions. But don't dare imply that there is any sort of scientific evidence supporting creationism by teaching it in a science class. Letting people decide which theory they like best is not how teaching works. You teach what the evidence tells you. I think you're reading into something which I am not trying to say. I wouldn't want people to choose a theory because, "it has nice shiny colors." You do teach what the evidence tells you. That works for rigid areas such as evolution. There isn't much disagreeing with evolution because there is solid, hard evidence that species aren't the same now as they were millions of years ago. Or math; there's no disagreeing with 2+2=4 because...well...it equals 4. And I suppose that's the majority of what is taught from K-12. I've been in college too long, and have been taking a lot of classes which can explain one thing in 5 different ways. I'll go back to my psychology example. A person is unsettled with her job. A cognitive psychologist could look at it and say she is unsettled because her behaviors and her thoughts don't match up. She's a secretary, but really wanted to be a teacher. But a social psychologist could take that very same scenario and talk about some sort of interaction between her and an aspect of the environment around her. Then again, you really have to know both (and more). I guess it's more of a, "this rule doesn't always apply" kind of thing--stuff that I've been dealing with a lot so it's kind of seeped into my head. I'm never going to be a teacher; so if how I view this whole education stuff isn't right, no harm no foul. There's plenty of other people who know how and want to teach instead Your math is correct 2+2=4, however your use of math to justify evolution, would have to also deny the math you refer to. Evolution has to have a beginning or a starting point. Evolution teaches us time had a beginning therefore, It had to begin with nothing, 0. The math I was taught is 0x?=0. Mathmatically, evolution couldn't have just happened, yet according to the math we use to justify those claims it can. hmmmm Your argument is weak in all aspects indicating evolution as hard fact. When in fact there are no facts that support those claims. When a person denies intelligent design at the cellular level of dna, then logic and reason escapes them.
