  1. The stories I've read have been about the DT's, last years starters gone and other seniors leaving, but while we're on the subject here's another option for speed at DE.... TE-Luke McNutt...6'2-240....All-Nebraska honors playing linebacker for Kearney High.
  2. Yeah, but they're already DT's. Everyone seems to be concerned about our lack of depth on the defensive line, especially at DT. I think a couple switches could fix that.
  3. Christian Gaylord....6'6-275 Cole Conrad....6'5-290 Dylan Utter...6'1-285 Jerald Foster...6'3-310 Jalin Barnett...6'4-310 These are all offensive linemen who have played d-line in high school and could do it again. I'm sure there are others on the roster who could switch as well if needed, but frankly I'm tired of looking.....I've seen enough. I wonder if they're planning any switches like this? (I suppose now a roster expert will tell me some of these guys are injured or quit the team, but you get the picture.)
  4. I don't have any idea who is staying or going. Let me know if I can help on anything else I don't know anything about.
  5. I didn't even see a legitimate running game that had a chance to work until half way through the season. Those sporadic handoffs with random blocking weren't designed to do anything but look like running. So, what running game are you guys talking about? This isn't exactly rocket science, ...especially for this ancient staff that's seen it all. Maybe they should take off those headsets and call their own plays?
  6. Right, and the top echelon teams are on their own level. They consistently pull in more of the best athletes and football players than anyone else. This is an incontrovertible fact. This is why they are top echelon programs. NU is not a top echelon program and hasn't been since before Frank got fired. If we want to get back to being a top echelon team then we MUST do a better job of recruiting across the board. How do you suggest NU do that? Cheat? Rehire John Blake (read: cheat)? I'm asking because NU has poured an unprecedented amount of money into recruiting this year (last estimate I read was 3x the amounts spent during previous to this year) and the class is in the 30s. People looking for salvation at the recruitnik well are going to be left feeling sour. We have some good players coming in. I'm not sure why overall rankings based on number of recruits is that important to you? I'm looking for players to fill our needs on the field ,not to fill up the bench. Then this class should worry you. We aren't hitting on D line at all. Look at the roster and think about our D line the year after next. The cupboard will be sparse to say the least. We already have no real rush ends which are essential to making Bankers D effective. Now Collins is gone. VV is likely gone as well, so now tackle starts getting thin and after next year beyond thin. There are some real holes in the recruiting process right now Well yeah, that happens when you have a transition like this. Did anyone expect it to be better considering what happened? Like I said earlier, we need to get some impact players and make a splash on the national scene....then other top recruits will want to be a part of that. This isn't directed at you or anyone here, but who doesn't know the NCAA is a joke? If they wanted to have "parity" and be "fair" they'd have a coaching salary cap and a 3 round draft for any player who isn't smart enough to get into Stanford. The system they have is set up to divide teams into patsies and big-market money-making teams. It would be better if they were honest and made the NFL pay for their own minor league team. Until then we just have to give it the old college try and make players better than they should be. Maybe switch some offense to defense in order to field a team?

  8. You can bet there's a bigass target on this kid to get him here. He'd be able to jump right in and contribute.
  9. It makes me feel like we belong to the BIG preTENder Conference, .....and it makes me feel like we have a good shot at winning this conference.
  10. I personally don't give a crap about recruiting class rankings as long as we get 2 or 3 impact players. Once the ball starts rolling and we show a record of success ,others will jump on. We need to get some play makers on defense and take some risks next year instead of sitting back. You'd think the D coaches would recognize that by now.
  11. Jacobson plays tough but we just don't have the bulk underneath to hold our own......need some serious recruiting; what it always comes down to.
  12. The only reason he was a high school assistant last year was because he was still being paid his NU contract and he wanted to stay in Lincoln with his kids. You are acting like he has never been a D-1 assistant coach. He was widely considered the worst position coach on Pelini's staff. And now he's going to a Big Ten school as a coordinator. According to who? Are you just making this up?
  13. Didn't see this hire coming, but good luck to Ross Els, he's a good man.
  14. This thread is hilarious because the whole bar screamed this at the same time near the end of the game when everyone could see Langsdorf was starting to have another brain seizure.
  15. Honestly, I'm ok with either one of those ratios as long as we're winning. Give it some time and I think some of those 7 losses become wins sooner rather than later.I should hope Purdue isn't ever a loss again. But that said, will people be content with 3 to 4 losses a season? All of the BOlievers were apparently content with it. Had a conversation with one of the relatives tonight who still wishes we had Bo. I asked him why, and the response was well the team never gave up on him. My response was the big ten title game vs Wisky or last year vs Wisky. He merely said that it wasn't bad coaching that it was just superior players. Once again I asked how could a walk on from GI be the back up QB for this team. His response well that's not the coaches fault. I find myself having conversations with people like this more often then I'd like to. Not sure if they will ever get it. Did he ask you about the 4 backup QBs + 1 starter on UNLs National Championship teams? 1970 - Van Brownson: Shenandoah, Ia. 1971 - Steve Runty: Ogallala, Nebraska 1994 - Matt Turman: Wahoo, Nebraska 1995 - Brook Berringer: Goodland KS 1997 - Scott Frost(STARTER): Wood River, Nebraska But I suppose you're not a Devaney or Osborne supporter either. Not always where you're from, it's how you party when you get there. How many of those guys threw 4 INTs in a game? To compare Ryker with those last two guys is pretty laughable. Love the story but I doubt he'd be starting for many D-1 schools How many of those guys were coached to throw 48 times against a conference bottom feeder? You don't have a clue about Ryker's abilities until he's led by a coach that can actually win more games than he loses. I have a clue about it. Fyfe should play for Kearney and Bush or Darlington should've started. Somebody's daddy made that fiasco happen. When he threatened to quit the team they should've told him to get going.
  16. Langsdorf has done what Pelini wouldn't do....listen to people and change to what works. The offense is not the problem any more.
  17. The offense is looking better all the time, carried the team in most games.......King Friday better step it up. At times we look good and at other times we give up 40 points and until then weak opponents cut through our defense like a hot knife through butter. What will the D look like next year? Hopefully twice as good as this year.
  18. It was Dollar Bill Byrne that attempted to officially declare us the Huskers instead of the Cornhuskers. We have been both for decades as a practical matter. Byrne believed Nebraska had a national image of being a bunch of corn farmers in the boonies and thought "Huskers" sounded much less 'farmer' and hick. I think the hick farmer image has been a great benefit overall and contrasted us from many of the other brands out there. I agree..and I think that attitude is an insult to the farmers and ranchers here.
  19. Is Nebraska still officially the Cornhuskers? That is all.
  20. I appreciate that Tommy is willing to learn, but I doubt those kind of split second decisions can be learned by talking to the coach.....especially a coach who doesn't make the right calls himself. What we've seen a lot of is calling the wrong play and making the wrong read on the wrong play.
  21. The Huskers lucked out with this bowl bid.........pretty sweet getting to go to Foster Farms considering where they might have ended up.
  22. I made it to the Pine Bluff game. I thought we had a bunch of good players but didn't come away with the feeling that there were a group of starters that owned the team and knew how to control the game. The lack of a true center also gave me the sense that we'd be light in the britches and foul prone against a top team with any kind of size and depth. They reminded me of a very athletic Creighton style team , but without a true go-to guy in a crunch.
  23. They also had a 3rd and 3 in Iowa territory where they apparently had already decided they were in 4 down territory,.....so they threw two incomplete low-percentage passes. Maybe they could look at that,.... and their entire running philosophy for the first 2/3 and last game of the season. Maybe they could look at the QB depth chart and rationalize how that happened. Maybe they could try to figure out why they played prevent defense for most of the season.........but could only prevent themselves from winning....or looking for the ball. Some of these mind boggling things must be some kind administrative decisions made in advance for reasons that ordinary sports fans don't understand.
  24. That's not what he said....he basically said nothing will change unless they decide to leave on their own.
