  1. He has informed Penn St that he is staying this is good. Good for Bill O'brian. Though if he pulls off another 8-9 win season, there's nothing to say he wont dart next year when another opportunity comes, but to stay for another year in light of what he's up against even with offers from the NFL shows a lot about the man's integrity. He's impressing me more and more with each move. Good for Bill O'Brian. Good for Penn St. He said he's "not a one-and-done guy" or not a "one-pump-chump" or something lol Righhhht. Thats why he interviewed. Because he is loyal to PSU. He just realized the Browns were not the right fit for him.
  2. Theyre so broke theyre selling sh#t? that's awful. Damn. Good catch. I always try to be careful about typos so no one gets me.
  3. Sounds like Oregon's OC would be in line to take over so he might see a promotion if that happens. Either way, there is no place for him on the staff full time here unless someone leaves and I would be willing to bet he does not want to make a lateral move so that would mean Beck is gone. Not happening
  4. That's better than the opposite I suppose
  5. On another topic. I just saw on the NFL Network that Penn State head coach Bill O Brien interviewed with the Browns and that the Eagles may be interested as well. Ian Rappaport confirmed it. He stated that PSU may not have been forthcoming about the extent of the auctions they were facing when he took over so he ,ay be looking to leave
  6. I think that the reduction of 28 penalties this year over last is quite good. Also should lend credence that Garrison AND Cotton know how to coach the line. Thank you to the posters that provided the stats. I do think it is still the mental things in the big games that need to be addressed.
  7. Just to throw this out. JJ Watt was a walk on at Wisconsin to start his career I believe. I believe Jared Tomich was too for NU. Call them reaches when they don't pan out or help the team.
  8. It's a matter of opinion as to when they earn them. I believe the starters earn them when they become starters. That's the way Osborne did it. I feel it does something psychologically for the starters to get them earlier. It gives them an identity. It gives them a swagger. It makes the 2nd string work that much harder to get one of their own. And I think that carries into the game. If you look back to when the shirts are finally given out by Pelini, there is sometimes a letdown the week after. After everything that went wrong with this years D, it can't hurt to go back to the old way of doing it and see if it gets a spark.
  9. We cut way, way back on holding and false start penalties this year. I don't want to get into an argument with you but I would like to know if you have anything to show proof of this. It seemed to me that we still had quite a bit of these penalties. We may have cut way way back but I am not sure it was enough yet. Interesting that you ask for proof then talk about how things seemed to you. Yes, I did go back and catalog all the penalties against NU this year. We averaged just under one false start and just under one holding/illegal block per game. I asked for proof because I could not find anything anywhere. I looked on the NCAA website, Huskers.com and others. I have zero problem being shown the correct information. I just could'nt find it myself. Thanks for the info. I would say 28 less penalties total is quite good.
  10. Speaking of Blackshirts and identity. I sure wish they would go back to handing them out to the starters at the beginning of the season instead of halfway through or whatever. I think it would be good for the morale of the team and give them an identity heading into the season.
  11. I think it is the Rams ok yeah my bad. You were kind of right. There is a McNeill with the Cahrgers but he is a Tackle
  12. Since we are directing a fair amount of our recruiting to the South with the help of Terry Joseph, I say we should play as many games, bowls or no bowls, to get more exposure there. I would also welcome games in Texas and California. It was cool to hear that some of these Florida kids came to the bowl practices and we seem to have opened some eyes with the game with Georgia. All in all, i would say it is what Nebraska needs. It was kind of like playing Miami and FSU every year in the 80's-90's at the Orange Bowl. A lot of Southern kids came up this way to play when that was happening.
  13. Most of this talent is unproven, so we should hold back our excitement a little.... Why? Isn't the purpose of looking ahead the chance to get excited about our younger/unproven players? Yes, but I felt that the poster was already depending on them too some extent.... Maybe it's time to move this conversation somewhere else so this thread can be dedicated to the player for which it is intended.
  14. Carl Pelini was a DC elsewhere before he became DC here. Shawn Watson was the sitting OC when Pelini arrived and was an OC before he got there. Pelini was a DC at NU, OU, and LSU before getting a HC job. I would refer to my point earlier about Wil Muschamp and "inexperience". Peilini has done just fine, Beck is more than proving his worth, and Pap needs another year or 2 to make any snap judgements about his abilities to be a DC.

  16. I don't care who starts next year or who is on the 2 Deep. Just figure out a way to cut back on holding and false start penalties. Especially in critical moments of games. If our 2 OL coaches can figure that out, we will be in good shape. Again, we are lacking in the execution of little things that add up to big things when not corrected.
  17. And yet it sometimes it comes down to the player seeing a liscense plate to make the decision. Hard to know what goes on in the minds of teenagers.
  18. Just to put things into somewhat of a perspective, Wil Muschamp was a DC at age 31 AT LSU. Pap is a little older than that. Also, Muschamps FIRST HC job was at Florida. So to all the people that say Nebraska is not a place where you have 1st time HC or Coordinators should take a look at what goes on around at other places. We don't know what we have with Pap yet. I think next year will speak volumes.
  19. His play calling just did not fit what we were trying to do anymore. Happens anytime you get a new coach. Pelini gave him a shot and it did not work out. After 2 years, I am happy with Beck. Also, Watson was looking for a HC gig at every corner.
  20. From the very first angle they showed on TV, he wasn't down. His body was parallel to the ground, and the ball was coming out. I have no idea about the play being called dead, but it would seem odd that a back judge would be the one blowing the play dead. Doesn't matter to me if all the refs called the play dead. These players need to hold the ball and not let go until they hand it back to the ref. Leave nothing to chance. Easier said than done, I know, but that is what is going to be the difference between wins and losses. The little things.
