  1. OK....here is what drives me nuts about articles like this and Vox does this quite often. In this article, the only parts where she actually has a fact incorrect is maybe on the Planned Parenthood video. I haven't watched the video so I don't know. I'm beginning to not believe Vox in articles like this that are more opinion than actually reporting the news. Here's an example: The answer about Russia and Putin. She lists: a) Rebuilding the 6th fleet b) would conduct regular, aggressive military exercises in the Baltic States c) Would send a few thousand troops to Germany d) Would rebuild missile defenses in Poland OK. The article then responds that she doesn't know her facts because: a) The 6th fleet is already very large b) Obama is already conducting military exercises in the Baltic States c) There are already 40,000 troops in Germany d) And, pushing a missile defense system on Poland is a long term solution to a short term problem. Now, here's the problem. Their "fact checking" isn't really fact checking. It's disagreeing with her. Now, that's fine if they disagree with her but don't sit here and act like she lied or doesn't have her facts straight. She didn't say there aren't any troops in Germany or that Obama wasn't conducting military exercises in the Baltic States...etc. She said that's what she would do. In essence, she in large part is saying she would do what Obama already is doing. That isn't lying or not having her facts right. It's just that the Vox writer obviously doesn't agree with her opinion on what to do. Horrible reporting if that is what this is supposed to be.
  2. OK....I haven't followed this very much. But, correct me if I'm wrong. But, his violation is that he contacted a professor to get information on the availability of a player. Now, I'm not naive enough to not believe it was also to ask the professor to get the player a better grade. However, this is what caused this fire storm? Really? Is there something I'm not catching here? Do you honestly think he is some kind of minority in coaches that have talked to or tried to talk to professors about a player? Unless there is something I'm not aware of, I scratch my head as to how this became the story it has.
  3. Winner Me = I had a great Cubs game to watch so I didn't have to sit through all the childish crap. Loser = Trump.....hopefully.
  4. You know, that's a really good observation, and one I hadn't taken notice of over the past 10 years. Everyone talks about how the jerseys are getting tighter, but to your point the construction and materials they use nowadays on the pads to keep their size down is pretty remarkable. Look at some linemen. They look like they went and got their shoulder pads out of the local grade school equipment locker.
  5. I'll touch on the "tuition free college". I firmly believe college should be cheaper than it is now. Kids are getting out of school with huge amounts of debt putting them behind the 8 ball right off the start. HOWEVER, I am a firm believer that kids should have some skin in the game when in college. Not everyone is college material and not everyone should be in college. Free college? We already have too many kids in college that don't take it serious and that takes away from the kids that DO take it serious. For the first 2.5 years I was one of those that didn't take it serious and I shouldn't have been there taking up space and money. So, now with free tuition, there will be even more idiots just like I was cruising through a few years of partying and being a waste of oxygen. Quite frankly, I should have gone to the military for a few years like I had originally planned and gotten my ass kicked, then gone to college. What changed with me? I was out of money and had to go get a job to start paying for it myself. I started working full time while going to school full time. I had to take some summer school to retake some classes I had failed or received a D in. My first two years had a GPA of 2.0. The rest of my time in college was over 3.5. Now, I am also for help for people who don't have a lot of money to pay for it like grants and low interest student loans. I believe the grants at least need to be performance based. If the government is going to give you a grant to got to college, you need to maintain a certain GPA...etc. College should not be an, everyone gets a participation ribbon program, like high school has become. Our goal in the US is to educate everyone. That is far different than many countries we are compared to. I agree with this goal in HS. Once out of HS, nothing is guaranteed. The best and brightest (no matter income level) should have every opportunity to go to 4 year college. Some are better fit at a tech school or a two year degree in something. For others, the military is better and some are best fit for just entering the work force. If you offer free college, a lot more kids will think...HEY....I'm going to go party in Lincoln for 4 years.
  6. I about broke down and cried last night. I had to mow the lawn (yes, in the dark). So, I had my head phones on listening to the game. When I came in, all my family was watching the game. My wife hadn't even done dishes yet because she didn't want to miss any of the game. It's a good season when that happens. BTW....great game.
  7. Again, pointing to a 90s plan that was not supported by the Conservative voters/base and was put forward by a small number of Senators over a short time span is NOT representative of Conservative ideology. That's like saying that LBJ sent the country into Vietnam and therefore Democrats stand for going to war. If you honestly think that conservatives in 2009/2010 were really wanting Obamacare or something like it, and just pretending they didn't, you are lying to yourself and everyone on here. Also, I do agree that both parties are a disaster. The left is becoming a bunch of socialists, and the Republicans in Congress are a bunch of wimps and can't seem to get anything done with their majority. There are things I don't agree with the GOP on, including Medicare Part D that Bush 43 passed. That was an entitlement expansion that was not paid for. I also don't like Boehner or McConnell so I would approve of them getting the boot. So to put you on the spot, since you are no longer a Conservative, who are you supporting in 2016? Where did I say I wasn't a conservative?
  8. It always surprises me how much smaller shoulder pads have become.
  9. Honestly, I kinda enjoyed Callahan's second and third seasons. Loved the beatdown of Colorado in Boulder in 2005, followed by the bowl win against higher ranked Michigan. We spent most of 2006 ranked in the Top 25, had an exciting comeback win against #24 Texas A&M in College Station and lost by a total of 5 points to #5 Texas and #10 Auburn. Plenty of good players on those teams. Felt like we'd turned a corner. Callahan needed a full four seasons to prove himself the biggest mistake in history. Every coach we have had has had their moments that I thoroughly enjoyed.
  10. I honestly don't know how we are going to look against Miami. If we do end up putting the screws to Miami though, sometimes I wonder how much people outside of Nebraska would notice or even care. We have zero votes in the AP poll right now. I agree. I think it would be more noticed if BYU would then also beat UCLA. We would have lost on the last second play to a team that has since beat two ranked teams and one of those was a top 10 team. If BYU loses, I agree this may go fairly unnoticed. That puts me in a position of rooting for BYU. Which I am loath to do. That's the only reason I want them to win. It benefits Nebraska. However, if that weren't the case, I couldn't root for UCLA to win either.

  12. I seriously doubt if either of those scenarios play out.
  13. Do you disagree with that, or what are the circumstances when you don't believe fans can be fanatical and optimistic? Of course there are different circumstances. That doesn't change the fact that we should be supporting our team, not making it personal, whether that be about feelings about Riley or Pelini. Being a fan is supposed to be fun. Believe it or not, you choose your attitude towards something. Now, I have to assume that all fans WANT to have fun. So, if a fan or group of fans have a really negative attitude towards a coaching staff long before they ever even coach a game or one or two games into their tenure, I have to believe those fans chose to have that attitude. What absolutely baffles me is why someone chooses to have fun being so negative against something that hasn't even proven if they deserve that negativity.
  14. Orrrr.......ummmm....Rose-Ivey???
  15. Simmer down, bro. I'm not pissy, I just have an opinion. I'm not going to apologize for it differing from others. Ultimately, what I think isn't going make this regime a failure or a success. Their record on the field will. Ok...so, that opinion is that this is a horrible hire and you're going to take every opportunity to tell everyone how horrible it is and how much they are going to fail and on and on and on ....constantly.
  16. It's unfortunate that nothing you've said is true. I'm following the narrative that has been going around here for years. Not my narrative, but whatever. And I'm on the record for saying that Bo needed to go. If you'd bother to inform yourself then you might just learn that most of the talking heads around these parts speak well of Riley and staff. I realize that you don't feel that people who have access to the program ( many who have played the game at tnt highest levels) and relate their opinions over the air are as credible as a random message board poster, but often times former NFLers know a little about the game. Sorry, In don't have an internet link for you, so I'm sure you won't buy into that theory. And to set the record, again, to form my opinion, I've simply checked out what this staff has done. Bill parcels said you are what your record says it is. So you're pissy because of a perceived narrative around here for years? Why do you care what the narrative has been here for years? Don't you have your own opinion? That is by definition "an axe to grind". Now, if this is your own opinion....are you telling us that as long as Riley is here, you're going to come on here all pissy acting like you know for fact he is going to fail and he is such a huge mistake and you know this for fact because you didn't like the hire? And...for the record, this has NOT been the narrative around here for years. A vast majority of this board supported the staff when they were hired. Sure, there were maybe a question here or there about experience...etc. But, in the end, we gave them a chance to succeed. Now, as time went on, various people became less and less enthusiastic about the staff. However, that happened due to what those guys did HERE AT NEBRASKA. NOT, some perceived failure before they ever got here and started their jobs. What has happened here with some fans like you and Theskers is simply axe to grind and a complete inability to give a staff a chance to succeed.
  17. That's possible. However, I would add, I think our offense will look good the first one or two drives. If it is sloppy, it will be after that. Why, If I may ask. NU hasn't come out of the gate in its first 2 games and looked sloppy. The offense has looked really crisp. I know it is a small sample size, but I see no indication that will happen. FYI....if this question is towards me, I suggest asking 1995. I believe they will look crisp at the start of the game. In fact, I think they will look pretty crisp throughout the game. My comment was....IF they (at some point) look sloppy, it will be after the first one or two series.
  18. Heck...when Solich was fired, I found out while laying in bed with my wife just about to get some action. I was so pissed when it came over the TV that it totally ruined the mood. If there was any guy who should have not liked that transition, it should have been me. However, I still supported Callahan when he got here and got excited about some things I saw happening. Just because "your guy" didn't get hired, doesn't mean you can't still support and get excited about who DID get hired. But what did you think about the football program? Always love the Huskers.

  20. I think we win this game and look better than some people outside Nebraska expect us to look. Yes, I'm a complete homer/scarlet glasses kind of guy. Seriously though, If the team continues to improve off of last week, I don't see why we shouldn't win by two TDs. The main area of concern for me is our D backfield and there have been some comments out of Lincoln this week indicating there may be solutions on the way. If we can do that while maintaining our good run defense, this game looks like a W. I also like the ability of our coaches to get the team in the right mindset and maintain that throughout the game. I don't expect to see panic or melt downs on the field. If we lose, it's because Miami simply played better than us. That's obviously possible. But, I don't expect it.

  22. Not liking the hire is not what annoys most of us, it is not being willing to acknowledge the building pile of evidence that a lot of things happening in the program are better under Riley, from program positivity, to coaching, to gung-ho recruiting. These things can not be denied and if a fan truly wants Nebraska to be better, he has to be willing to acknowledge that this is happening. There are some here and elsewhere that do not want these thing to occur, because it makes the firing of 408 look like a better idea every day that passes. I get it, I really do...but lots of people just want to be an "I told you so" that is the annoying part...both ways. I am pumped with the hire and I bug my buddies that are anti-Riley about it all the time...I am sure they hate me Here's the thing though. WHY be "anti-Riley"? That makes absolutely no sense until he does something AT NEBRASKA that makes you feel that way. OK, you they think we could have hired someone better. So be it. Riley is here now. Why not get behind him and root for him instead of constantly reminding us how horrible life is under Riley and how he is going to fail and the world is going to end..and on and on and on.
  23. There is a big difference between, "hey, I wish we would have hired someone else, I don't think this is going to work out" and putting off an attitude where you constantly have to remind everyone the hire sucks, we suck everyone sucks, we are going to fail...bla bla bla....while not ever acknowledging anything that goes well. And, quite frankly, I would be perfectly happy if the words BOleaver and BOleiver were permanently banned from the site. There are no other words on this board that grate at the other side more and cause more arguments than those. Anyone using them are simply trying to stir the pot and get on other people's nerves.
