  1. A week or two ago someone from the LJS or OWH did a fantastic story on Rex growing up, his family and what has made him who he is today. It was a great read. Sorry I can't find a link to it right now. Anyway, I would love to read more stories like that about players and coaches. Find interesting stories about the people we talk about and watch on Saturdays that otherwise we would never know.
  2. It's his 2nd season.... I didn't say which off season
  3. Try being a hospital employee and having to take care of a death row inmate that the state paid to have open heart surgery so he wouldn't die of a heart attack. Yep....that happened to me. That left an impression on me as a college student. Not knowing any more than anyone else here about this, it sure sounds like typical government decisions. They make no sense. Sex change operations are by choice, they don't have any long term health issues that they solve. It is simply a way for someone to think they are going to be more comfortable in their own body. The government should not be paying for these.
  4. Good info in here. After reading this I went back and watched some of the offensive plays from Saturday to see what you were talking about. I noticed something interesting. I didn't realize how many of our passing plays were play action with linemen pulling to one side or the other in pass pro. I think it was a play like that where Martinez got sacked because Long didn't get pulled in time to get the DE coming off end. Almost all other plays like that were very well protected. I liked what I saw but either that play is going to be really nice for us all year or teams are going to figure out how to pass rush around it like the play mentioned above. There may have to be another wrinkle thrown in some how to slow that down. Good play though.
  5. After the embarrassing showing against USC during the Clownahan years, I want another crack at them.
  6. At the start of that season, how much talent did everyone think was on that team? Suh hadn't emerged yet as quite the beast he ended up being. The rest hadn't shown that much the year before while giving up over 28 points per game.
  7. First 4 games of 2009 yards FAU 358 Ark St 274 Virg Tech 243 La Lafayette 222 Just because we gave up some yards to a mobile QB, doesn't mean we can't end up with a very good defense.
  8. My prediction.... The offense will look good but not quite as good as the season goes on as it did this week. They can still be pretty dang good with out racking up over 600 yards of offense. The defense will look better than we saw on Saturday as the season goes on. They will make adjustments and improve.
  9. Second year in the offense and he knows where 2nd, 3rd and 4th receivers are going to be and when.
  10. The receivers looked awesome on Saturday. And, this is coming from someone who has criticized our receivers for YEARS. If they keep this up, Fisher quite possibly was the best hire in the off season.
  11. At most it looks like 3'. Look at the hash marks. The LOS is at the 24.5 yard mark and it looks like our guys have their hands on the ground at 23.5-24. They could be closer. I think what you are seeing is that their tackles feet are a good 6' off the ball (2 yards) and playing an up position. That means that the DE and tackle at least 7-8' apart but not necessarily because of where our guy lined up.
  12. I don't have a problem with Compton winning that. I just think that when we have one LB in the middle of the field, the smart thing for a team to do is run right at us. It's a match up problem more than it is a player problem.
  13. At this point, I don't see a big problem especially if our offense can score points. Just trying to figure out why our coaches have the players do what they do and trying to figure out why we can't stop a running QB.
  14. Defending mobile QBs has been a problem for a number of years at Nebraska. Once again, on Saturday, we saw Alford run quite a bit against us. Now, only giving up 13 points and something like 260 total yards is pretty decent. Like Bo, I think this defense could still be very good. But, my questions are about the two positions listed in the title. After rewatching the game twice, some things stood out. LB = When we play a Spread offense and are in the nickle or dime package, we basically only have one LB playing that position. Now, there might be another one like Whaley but he is split out fairly wide with no way of helping in the middle. What this did many times on Saturday it caused Compton to try to plug a hole. If one Lineman comes free, all the RB/QB has to do is read which side of that lineman Compton goes and going the other way easily sets up the block. Once that happens, it is 10-15 yards before anyone can catch him. DE = I always thought the first move a DE should make is up field from the outside so that he contains and doesn't allow anything outside him. What I saw on Saturday was many times the first move the DE makes is to the inside almost to try to collapse OT or TE into the LOS. Many times what this allowed was the RB/QB to get outside and make a good play. I have to admit, I don't understand these two concepts. It seems like we are setting ourselves up for big plays with was we are doing with these two positions. With the DE doing what I saw, it makes him APPEAR to be slow because he doesn't get off the LOS until he reads what is going on. By that time, someone is there to block him. Anyone else have thoughts on this? Now, this all very well may change when we get into conference play when we play more power run teams and have more LBs on the field. Hopefully so. Maybe these spread teams force Bo into playing so few LBs that giving up a few yards to the QB run is simply the price you pay for shutting everything else down.
  15. So, let me get this straight. On one hand, we have a true freshman RB who left because he didn't get much playing time (at least in the fan's eyes even though in fall camp he was claiming he wasn't happy) On the other hand, we have a true freshman lineman who played a ton of snaps and was the man when the guy ahead of him was injured. He was going to be on the two deep this year which means lots of playing time for a guy with his experience....and he leaves in a huff.... Sometimes a coach just can't win in these situations. You wish them well and move on and win with kids who want to be here.
  16. Which is why polls are the worst way to crown a champion. Absolutely worst. There is no way even the AP voters can watch every game and analyze is the way it would need to be done.
  17. Only when I think it's justified. My standards and expectations aren't dependent on the letter after the name. whoa, when did george w. bush enter the conversation? I think you mean to say Jimmy Carter, I know you have a problem with spelling and comprehension. Carter was bad. So was W. The failure of one doesn't justify the failure of the other . . . does it? And as bad as both of those were, they still get beat by Obama.
  18. Probably the same way you keep defending the most pathetic President in a very long time.
  19. That is a good one. Does anyone know if the team still says that prayer before games and when it got started?
  20. We'll see how much clamoring for Carnes there is this year. He was supposed to be our "savior" last year (according to some) and now he's #4. Hmmmmmm....... I think this says one heck of a lot about what some fans were complaining about last year.
  21. All looks pretty good to me. Nickens is a walk-on junior from Alliance, NE.
  22. This is always a classic the day before a game.
  23. A non-recurring expense. (expenditure) But...WWII is made of of lots of "non-recurring expenses"....it's not just one. . . . . and so is the stimulus bill. Where are you going with this BRB? No it's not. There wasn't one bill that told Congress to spend Billions of dollars on WWII. It was a series of events that lead to that amount of money being spent. When we went to war with Japan, congress didn't say..."Hmmm...I want you to also spend all the money you are going to spend in Germany also". The Stimulus Bill was one act of congress that said they are going to spend XXXX amount of money.
