  1. Huskerboard's very own black sheep airport correspondent tweeted at a few of us last night that Marvin Sanders in fact came in to Omaha about two weeks ago. For whatever it's worth. Of course he could be here for other reasons, but he does have a daughter that lives here and he was likely here visiting her for the holidays.
  2. How are you, comrade? What are you going to do, friend? You should come play with the best defensive line in the country.
  3. Thus, we have a GA who works with QBs. Do you not want a couple coaches working with all the guys blocking for the guy who touches the ball 750 times per year? That would seem to be important to make sure those guys are all doing their job correctly. You know, considering that's usually at least 50% of the guys on the field at any one time. Do most other programs have one guy handle the OL? I honestly dont know for sure, but my guess would be only one guy. Clearly Bo didn't think Barney was doing a great job or he wouldn't have moved Garrison into the position to replace Barney. I just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly - you're comfortable with Ron Kellogg coaching and teaching the QB position to Tommy, Stanton, and Darlington? Ron Kellogg.
  4. How many of those OC/QB Coaches have a quote saying: "I don't always have time to work on the mechanics and little things with our QBs because of my installation duties." No one is complaining that Beck handles the QB duties, but he himself has said he doesn't have time to work with them enough. So again, we have a coach that coaches a position that gets 5 touches per year. Wouldn't it be more valuable to get a coach who coaches a position who touches it 750 times per year?
  5. Max Olson ✔ @max_olsonFollow Any truth to Jerrod Heard considering Boise State, Nebraska and UCLA? Answer from his HS coach: “Nope. Going to Texas."
  6. This is correct can have a head coach and 9 assistants so who would go to add a QB only coach? Beck Brown Cotton Els Fisher Garrison Joseph (if he is still here) Kaz Papuchis Barney Cotton is who you cut. No matter what you think of him or whatever, just think about his duties. He is the TE coach. The same TE's who were targeted like 15 times this year and caught a total of 6 passes or so. His recruiting ground is Nebraska, which takes minimal effort. You think Barney had to work hard to get Bando to commit? We should cut Barney not because he sucks or isn't a good coach, it's because we should replace a guy who coaches a position that gets 5 touches a year for a guy who coaches a position who touches the ball 750 times per year.

My Boner-Meter, if I was a UT fan, would be on flacid right now...very very flacid...they would have to page a fluffer.

  8. It is also important to note he was playing at about 30 pounds lighter than his football playing weight due to it being wrestling season. At a camp in the summer he officially weighed in at 304 and I believe heavy weight wrestling requires you at be below 275.
  9. seems like a lot of oc's, college and pro, like to throw it inside the ten. only way to spread out the defense with a short field. but what is the difference? if they ran it three times inside the ten every time, got stuffed, and had to kick field goals, they would still be terrible oc's. The good ones understand that inside the redzone is where you have to win with physicality to be successful. That has been the achilles heel of Oregon's offense. If they had the ability to run downhill at all, they would have beat Auburn for the NC. But that's the style of their offense. The identity of our offense is (should be) run first, run second, Play action pass. So trying to throw it in the red zone where passing windows are that much tighter will never equal success for our team. With that said, though, Michigan very well could be the worst physically, downhill running football team in the history of football. They were running with a lot of reverses, jet sweeps, misdirection, etc. That stuff doesn't work inside the 10 yard line and if they ran it between the tackles with the RB, they would have literally a negative chance at gaining a single yard.
  10. Getting it from here http://247sports.com...iteTeamRankings Why are you using their rankings? Why dont you use Scouts? 247 Composite is probably the most best service to use because it takes the average star rating from 247, Rivals, Scout, and ESPN. So everyone always talks about certain services favors kids from Texas, other services favor kids committed to SEC, this and that, if you average a kid over all 4 services, the perceived biases will be averaged out and have less effect. Notice 247 Composite is different than 247 Sports. 247 Sports is 247's analyst alone, 247 Composite is the averaged rating.
  11. College coaches will ALWAYS have to say that. A recruit can call a coach at any time and say "Hey, are you leaving?" Unless he has signed the NFL contract, anything can happen or fall apart, so he must deny and call it a rumor. This exact same scenario happened with Sark and Peterson at their schools. Literally hours before the coaching change was made official, both had recruits out that said, "I just got off the phone with coach Sark (or Coach Peterson) and they are 100% staying here. They are out recruiting for Washington (or BSU) right now."
  12. There is a difference between "letting him on our team" and "actively recruiting another kicker because you don't have confidence in your first guy". Smith though he wanted to take a chance on kicking for a bigger program so he sent out film to several schools who had lost their kicker from the previous year. Pelini called him back and let him walk on. Why wouldn't you let one of the best kickers in the country walk on to your program, no matter how good your current kicker is? He got on the team because he was recruited and they felt a need! They don't recruit him and feel there is a need unless they have serious confidence issues with Bondi. Have you seen Bondi kick FGs? Pat Smith isn't one of the best kickers in the nation, where are you getting this from?? He did a nice job for us this year, better than a lot of people would have expected, but lets not get carried away here, jesus. Look, FG is a position where you don't need or build depth at. You grab a kicker every 4 years (possibly 3) and fill in a back-up with a couple walk-ons. You need one guy who will be available basically 99.5% of the time for 4 years. In 2009, we didn't recruit or get a fifth year senior transfer to kick behind Henery. Same with Maher. We needed one guy. They didn't feel comfortable with Bondi, they recruited another kicker. Now we will have another kicker on campus next year. The point remains, I don't think Bondi will kick a FG in his career again, and I personally don't feel having a scholarship for a guy kicking exclusively kick offs is productive use of the 85 limit. We could use another WR, CB, OT, QB rather than someone who kicks off. Just go back and read Bo's comments on the kicking game from July 2013 to about November. EVERY quote was "neither guy has taken the job, there is still inconsistency with both guys. I would like to see more out of them. Need to be more consistent..." Again, I just don't follow how or what you're arguing when everything is so forthright and clear.
  13. - No one said Brown is better - that is why I said "suspect". Implies my opinion, nothing more. - To your next two points. Smith got on our team. The coaches don't allow another kicker on the team unless A. they recruited him B. they felt a need for him. That means they were looking for another kicker (they recruited him). How is that patently false? If they were comfortable with Bondi, they wouldn't go recruit another kicker as a stop-gap for one year. - I'm sure there have has been an injured kicker in the history of football, and the Michigan one is a great example. But how common is that? In the last 20 years, have we ever had a game missed due to injury by our starting kicker? The only actual assumption I made is that Brown will beat out Bondi and I have made no definitive statements about that. Other than that, everything is basically spelled out as clear as can be and I'm not sure how or why you're arguing something that is so clear.
  14. It's not like he can't kick FGs. I'm fine with having two kickers. Much better than only having one should he get hurt. He can't kick FGs at a rate the staff is comfortable with. Not all teams give their kickers scholarships, we do and I'm happy about it. But when you have a kicker on scholly (Bondi) and you actively go out and recruit a one year, fifth year senior to come kick (Smith) that means you don't have confidence in the first guy. How many games have we had where our #1 kicker wasn't available due to injury? Not only us, but any kicker on a team you follow? Of course that doesn't mean you don't have a walk-on or two in the wings just in case, but injuries to kickers are extremely rare. Their one function is an very natural, repeatable motion that isn't physically taxing. They face very little contact otherwise.
  15. I would suspect Bondi to not kick a FG for the rest of his career. Which wouldn't be terrible. Kunalic was a great weapon for us - save for one kick. Yes, it's great to have a kick off weapon and all. But generally you wouldn't want a guy who ONLY does kick offs to eat up a scholarship for 4 years.
  16. I would suspect Bondi to not kick a FG for the rest of his career.

Congrats to jay bird. Will he be moving on?

  18. I'm confused by your parenthetic statement. Are you saying Mosley has reached out and contacted Oklahoma?
  19. Gregory has lost 20-25 pounds since he arrived to campus in late summer. I'm sure he added some speed by losing that weight, but he has always been extremely athletic and fast. Note that the weight he did lose isn't like he was overweight and needed to lose it to become a better player. He wishes he didn't lose that weight, it's muscle and "good weight" he lost. He has just had trouble keeping it on.
  20. According to the 247 commit calculator, we would move up to 27th with the 3 recruits you mentioned. You can add and subtract any player you like and it shows you the class rating. http://nebraska.247s...Commits/Preview We will be taking anywhere from 23-26.
  21. Finnin played in the So Miss and SDSU game for sure - I specifically remember seeing him. I think he may have also gotten in against Purdue, as well.
  22. He came into fall camp quite a bit over weight and has lost a little since. But his shape still resembles more of a bowling ball rather than a bowling pin.
  23. Stoltenberg at OT is the plan I believe. Word is Knevel is going to be a complete stud. Expect Knevel, Sterup and Finnin isn't a bad 3 man rotation. But we picked up 3 OT's last year. So I only see us taking 2-3 this year, probably 3. I would love to close out on Nick Gates. Others we are talking to still: http://www.huskerboa...-kolton-miller/ http://www.huskerboa...ichigan-commit/ (Guy you mentioned) I thought Stoltenburg was on defense but can't remember for sure. In addition to Knevel, Sterup and Finnin, we got Hannon and Johnson last year and Thurston before that. So we're not in bad shape - though more is always better. Hannon is a guard and doesn't have the body type to play tackle. I think Thurston is the 3rd string center and has received solid reviews from scout team. I think he has a really good chance to start at center next season.
