  1. Hiring Frost was always a $5 million gamble. He had only been a head coach for 2 seasons and just happened to strike lightning in a bottle in his second year at UCF with many players from a previous staff in an arguably weak conference. Now after 5 years as an HC he will have had 4 losing seasons. As of right now it looks as if that gamble did not pay off. Maybe he can grow into the job and learn how to be a good HC, I don’t know. I know we can’t keep gambling and recoup our losses by doubling down on the next “bet” Ultimately our inability to hire a proven head coach is what has gotten us into this mess. Solich, no head coaching experience, and didn’t know how to be himself Callahan, NFL guy who could get talent but didn’t really understand college coaching, never had kids compete hard in practice, and too connected to his DC Pelini, no head coaching experience, best teams were with callahans players Riley, the anti pelini, Tom Osborne lite, lots of HC experience but a lifetime 7 win coach Now Frost, be real if he wasn’t who he is would anyone have been on board with him being hired at $5 mil a year?
  2. 15 post penalty. Illegal use of a big word during the game thread Is that you Hank?
  3. Miles said after the game the team was still struggling with the offense. Looked to me like they were struggling with where the shots come from, thought we settled for the 3 to often. Defensively we were getting beat like a drum off the dribble, I hope we can shore that up. It will be a long difficult year but the 3 redshirts waiting in the wings for next season will be worth the wait.
  4. Coaches want to coach, not just recruit, a lot of the good recruiters are AAU guys who can get players to join teams and they all consider themselves good coaches an want the chance to prove that. Head of basketball operations doesn't let you prove that. So even though it's less money it's a chance to actually coach.
  5. Tips will tough, who has less of a vertical Sergai or Almeda
  6. After watching them in the exhibition, if Miles wants to redshirt him, which I think is the right decision, he might need to make sure he is always in street clothes because the temptation will be there.
  7. Great game Great game because PSU has no play-makers, the same reason Fisher looked so good against Michigan when Robinson went out of the game. So your saying he had a great game because PSU has no playmakers? You do realize they have probably, the best TE crew in the nation? They are dangerous over the air, but we have a great secondary, who doesn't give up. They have 1 receiver in the top 150, their running back is at 80 and a quarterback who is 62, yeah the have no playmakers. You are correct we statistically have a great secondary but we have played only 3 teams who rank in the top 50 in passing and one of those was Arkansas State. The best passing offense we have seen was UCLA and they are only at 31.
  8. My feelings exactly, the games are amazingly entertaining, but we shouldn't lose perspective of how good we are.
  9. Only if you define success by wins and losses, something Tom Osborne never did.
  10. Great game Great game because PSU has no play-makers, the same reason Fisher looked so good against Michigan when Robinson went out of the game.
  11. We deserve to be 8-2 because the 8 teams we beat are average at best. We have played 2 teams that are close to being complete teams and they both beat us. I challenge anyone to point out what our signature win is. We are a solid 15 to 20 rated team.
  12. Blatchford is a great story, but he plays because our defense is nothing special. We have played 2 teams this year who are somewhat complete teams and we lost both those. Got absolutely housed by one of them.
  13. Any Kool Aid drinkers out there still think we are a top 5 team if we could just eliminate our mistakes?
  14. When we were in the Big 12 my cousins in B1G country would always use this excuse that we are always beating up on each other so that's why we can't win the NC. Beating up on each other just means that there is parity, it doesn't mean all of the teams are good. If everyone is average than its just average teams beating each other. Don't mistake parity for quality.
  15. One of the reasons we are inconsistent is because we are not that good. It goes hand in hand we wouldn't be top 5 with Vince Lombardi coaching us, at best we are maybe a top 10 to 15. We look good because we are playing in what is currently a very mediocre league. Talking about being top 5 is way out there we just nipped a 5-5 team that has 4 losses in conference. saban is more than a just a recruiter. at bare minimum better coaching has 7-1 with a closer loss to OSU(in my opinion we win that as well) and we finish the rest of our schedule undefeated going into the bowl... thats going to have us sitting top around top 5. I'm not going totally anti bo here... he's a young coach who can improve... but he's not there yet. We could very well be 7-1 I doubt however we beat OSU, I will agree Saban is by far a superior coach to pelini I just disagree with your feeling that our talent level is on par with the upper echelon teams. Our O-line is way below average in both personel and coaching and our D-line is average at best, our best offensive lineman is playing defensive tackle and when it comes down to coaching it's the Jim's and the Joe's not the x's and the o's I know that's cliche but no matter how good of a coach you are you can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh$t. Really? Because KSU right now had top notch players? I don't think they recruited many top recruits. They are an average team, playing superior ball. They are COACHED very well. Everything always relies on coaching, no matter how good a kid is out of high school. If they aren't taught how to play on a collegiate level, then they won't make it to the next level. To compare Saban to Pelini is just outright hilarious. Your talking about a Veteran HC, to a rookie HC. Pelini is still growing, and finally being able to get a fundamental defense. Our offense, simply the best offense we have had in over a decade, if not longer. A HUGE amount of talent. Obviously Coaching is important look at Callahan he could recruit talent just couldn't get much out of it, and recruiting is a big crapshoot fact is there are a lot of can't miss kids that miss. But to suggest that all you need to do is coach em up and you will be great is ridiculous, disparity in talent overcomes coaching more times than not. Bigger, Faster, Stronger wins most of the time and Well coached bigger, faster, stronger wins almost all of the time.

No, our talent is not comparable to that of Bama and maybe even Oregon. But Kansas St? Easily. Notre Dame? yes, Anyone else? yes, we have what it takes talent wise to be competitive. It's just the little things that are lacking. Our talent is not elite, but it is definitely serviceable enough to be competitive with anyone outside of Oregon and Bama. I love your passion but by competitive do you mean beating these teams or playing them tough and losing a close one because either is competitive. i would hardly say we looked competitive against OSU this year. I think we look better than what we are because the teams we have been playing are pretty weak.

You're one of them arent you? What do you mean by one of them? If you mean I can look at my alma mater with out my big red colored glasses and give a realistic evaluation of how good they are then yes I am one of them. If you mean I am one of those fans that's never happy and just complains to be complaining then no I am not one of them. Your comment "because we are not that good" suggests that you dont think we ahve the talent or whatever to be that good. Maybe I read too much into it, if so, I apologize. But to suggest we dont have the talent-when it's obvious we do because we can overcome the mistakes and inconsistency-that sir is blinders. you're right we are overcoming mistakes but we are beating very average teams, we have the talent to beat good teams if we eliminate mistakes. The concept of why we make mistakes is like the chicken and the egg. Are we inconsistent because we make mistakes or do we make mistakes because that is our talent level. We have some very good players, receiving corps is very solid, running backs good, I even think Martinez is developing into a great player but our offensive line is both sub par in talent and coaching, our d-line and linebackers are average at best. C'mon do you really think Justin Blatchford sees the field at a top 5 school? Our best win is over a 6-3 Michigan team who we had the luxury of playing over half the game withour 68% of their offense. Think what we would look like if Martinez went down, it wouldn't be pretty.

  21. Cocaine is a hell of a drug. When you make insane statements like that you lose credibility, it's great to love your team but we will have to play our butts off to beat Penn St let alone a top 5 team.
  22. Talent wise, according to the stars, and some statistical categories we are on par with most. We are simply also at the bottom in penalties and TO's per game. Last week saw a stat that showed the current undefeated teams were also the top in TO margin. 3 of the 5 IIRC were also towards the bottom in penalties. TO's matter, penalties not so much. Approx 46% of the points we have given up this year came from our fumbles. This doesn't count the points off INT's. We kill ourselves. If we could get out of our own way, we have a chance to be really good. As much as I bag the staff, the fumbles are on the guys. I have no idea why we appear to be a fundamentally challenged team year in and year out. On that I would have to say coaching issues ie practice, lack of attention to detail Isn't part of being a talented football player not turning the ball over, and yes many turnovers are mental lapses but that speaks to the talent of the player and we are not as physically talented on either line to be considered a sleeping giant. We all wonder what we will be like if we ever put it all together, well that perfect game would be an anomally for us since the only thing we are really consistent at is being inconsistent.
  23. Bell, Enunwa, Evans, AA, Rex, ...... Those guys are all good players but hardly NFL "locks" be honest with yourself and look around the country, there are plenty of guys as good or better. Don't get me wrong Burkhead is a warrior but an NFL longshot at best. Burkhead is rated at 155 on the NFL draft list, Stafford at 185 then Maher at 244 hardly locks.
