  1. http://www.timesofisrael.com/khamenei-israel-wont-survive-next-25-years/ Isn't this an encouraging statement as the Senate votes on the Iran deal! Oh, and he calls the USA the Great Satan again.
  2. Not only few freshmen, but their freshmen were the age of our juniors. so true - and that does make a difference in poise.
  3. As Knapp said in the other thread - they, BYU, had all of the advantages - experience, tall receivers, stable transition from last year, the same system, and again - experience (few freshmen) We had lost our # 1 all time receiver, our # 2 all time RB from last year, our leading special teams guy out wt injury, coach transition, a new system and - lack of experience - starting 4 true freshmen and playing 7. I do think the lack of starting game experience really hurt us when you start that many OL wtout game starting experience and we had RBs which had not started a game.
  4. As mentioned before, the injuries are the biggest unknown at this time - yet they can't be an excuse. I suspect 9-3 or 8-4 at worse. I can see the 7-5 situation if our kicking game becomes an anchor that drags us down - no DPE, No solid punter, and Brown continuing to struggle. I see us improving on D with each game and we'll get the running game thing worked out - now it is all about special teams in my opinion as to where the record ends up.
  5. Another positive: 8. The D - while not having the huge pass rush I was expecting, did contain the run better than we've seen in the pass. The DBs while giving up the Hail Mary (why wasn't someone in front of that guy) mostly played well against some very tall receivers - outside of Davis loosing a couple of battles. So D - good run support, better tackling, and some overall better play by the LB - even without our suspended player - Rose-Ivy. Regarding the caving of Bo's team, I think last year the team was emotionally fragile when we were down at halftime or when the other team started to roll - we couldn't stop it. - yes we had comeback wins esp the year TM willed us to win the division with his exceptional play- winning I think 6 in a row. We came back against Ohio State, etc. I think the difference was adjustments that were made at half time during the BYU game. A common complaint against Bo was the lack of in game and half time adjustments.
  6. I've been following Husker football since 1970 - yes most of you weren't even born then. So I have seen many highs and many low points over the years. Fortunately the highs far outnumber the lows. So when thinking of this game, I want to place some things in a positive light. We are all disappointed in this loss - another 'streak' ending but in the midst of one streak ending I see the hope of another beginning. My hope is that within this loss we see the seeds of a future conference championship and others to follow. Here is what I mean: 1. Granted Tommie will never be a NFL type QB, however, I saw a much different Tommie out there than the one we saw last year. The timing was much better, the communication wt the receivers improved, throwing to where the receivers would be, etc. There was enough improvement here (yes room for more improvement is still apparent) to tell me that once we have a QB that fits Riley's system - we should see a vast improvement with the O. 2. Resiliency: last year and preceding years, this team would have caved at half time being down 10 pts. They never gave up, even after the bad ref calls, the injuries, and the missed opportunities. They responded to Gerry's interception and out side of a poor 3rd and one play, would have won the game - against a more experienced team. 3. While the overall running game was not encouraging, one has to realize that we have a very inexperienced line outside of Lewis. There were enough flashes that if we can turn the corner in the running game and tie it to the improved passing game, we will have a good O. 4. We were competitive without our # 1 play maker - DPE. 5. Coaches were coaching/teaching on the sidelines - not yelling and drawing the attention of the cameras. What a relief not having the cameras focused on an angry Bo. That in itself is worth the cost of admission. 6. This is year 1: I don't expect miracles this year. It is obvious that the cupboard was bare on experience OL,RB and in critical areas of the D. Some of those young guys (including Young on D) stepped up and played well. We have to remember that this is a transition year - I still expect 8-10 wins but I see seeds in today's team that will enable us to eventually end another streak - no cc since 1999 and no involvement in the NC discussion since 2001. I expect in year 3 or 4 we will be apart of that discussion once again. 7. Positive Reinforcement - instead of a news conference blaming the players who 'don't execute' we get a forward looking, positive news conference from a coach who is more of a teacher & not a complainer or excuse maker. That attitude will have a long term impact - not only this year but in years to come. We saw evidence of it when the team did not fold at half time.
  7. For grins - I googled "was al gore's movie scary' and I got this hit - haven't watched it yet - put thought I'd add it to the fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=_21b7mdJz2M
  8. 95 Orange Bowl: Schlesinger 2nd Touchdown Run This made my Husker World all well - everything since as been candy on top of the cake https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=2v3t_kqH3GE#t=18 https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=2v3t_kqH3GE
  9. There is indeed a desire on the right for an outsider, and it's only a matter of time before Conservatives realize that Trump is not really Conservative. Jeb Bush has out this great ad showing what a hypocrite Donald is. To me this may help Carson now, but I really think Fiorina will be the final outsider in the race. Carson isn't as knowledgeable on a broad spectrum of topics, and doesn't have the fighter instinct that the right is wanting now. I for one am glad that Fiorina gets a seat at the big peoples table for the next debate - if for anything to take the light off of trump. If he says something nasty to her, it will back fire -I think she will zing him back.
  10. Hope some day the sane people in Iran will rise up and over throw the nuts in control.
  11. Getting back to the IRAN deal itself, I came across this article http://freebeacon.com/national-security/kerry-promises-israel-saudis-money-in-wake-of-iran-nuclear-deal/ So the Military Industrial Complex is assured of greater sales as we now need to beef up our friends (Israel, Saudis, etc) to calm their fears of the deal. Sending billions of $$s that we don't have (could use here in the USA) to assist others who are fearful of our "treaty" wt Iran. But what gets me is this: No stopping of Iranian terror efforts, no release of Americans held in Iran. We sign a deal with no strings to Iranian behavior where it counts the most - terrorism and releasing our citizens. So, as others predicted, we'll have a new arms race in the Middle East - just where we need it. ISIS has billions of equipment left behind by Bush's great adventure, and now we will need to spend billions more to help our friends - while freeing up $150billion to be given back to Iran - which will gladly spend it on their own military development and supporting terrorism. The tangled webs that we make - this involving several administrations. a portion of the article: Secretary of State John Kerry on Wednesday moved to reassure Congress that Israel and America’s Gulf State allies would be fully taken care of in the wake of the Iran nuclear deal, which Kerry acknowledged would not stop Iran’s support for terrorism, according to a letter sent by the secretary of state to lawmakers. Just moments after the White House secured enough votes to override a congressional veto of the Iran deal, a letter from Kerry appeared in the inboxes of congressional offices across Capitol Hill. Kerry admits that, despite the deal, Iran will continue to back terrorist groups across the globe and promises to boost military support and funding to Israel and Gulf states such as Saudi Arabia, according to a copy of the letter obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.
  12. I think there's probably a grain of truth in there. Not that the earth needs to do anything. It doesn't notice or care. But many scientists believe we are in the midst of a sixth mass extinction caused by humans, which has resulted in the fastest rate of species extinction in millions of years. Left unabated, humans will almost certainly be a part of the extinction. Not to get too political, but this is one of the reasons I don't understand how Christianity got mixed up with the right wing (although on a positive note, I find Pope Francis very refreshing). I always thought growing up that it was a moral imperative to protect and cherish the environment. Why that isn't a cornerstone of modern Christianity is beyond me: it's maybe the moral imperative, especially when you consider the impact on the poor especially if we fail. X - Roe v Wade - the reason the 'Christian conservatives' got involved wt the republican party - in general. Not all Christians are involved wt the repub party or the right wing of that party. After Roe v Wade the only party that gave lip service to the moral issue of abortion from the conservative Christian perspective was the repub party. The 'Moral Majority' became a movement that helped elect Ronald Reagan and usher in the congress of 1980- which was a tidal wave election. Unfortunately, conservative Christian (CC) voters have become the same to the repub machine that I think African American voters are to the dem machine - entrapped voters - no place else to go. However our "leaders" only give lip service and no changes are made. CC are pawns each election cycle like African Americans are to the dems - throw out enough 'pro-life' rhetoric to keep them in the camp so you can count on their votes but never do anything - so you always have that election issue - thus they are chained to the party forever. Under this administration & Clinton's, have the African American faired any better - no. Under both Bushs - did prolife issues resolve themselves - no. Also, I do think stewardship is a moral imperative of Christian faith. I was just reading a very important chapter on that in the book link copied below (outside or the Bible, if I could only have one other 'spiritual' book - this would be it). We are to steward all things as belonging to another, God, and that includes being stewards of our neighbor - yes I am my brother's keeper - "Love your neighbor as yourself." The problem arises when one's faith gets overshadowed by political issues - Politics isn't our savior. This is where the Moral Majority went wrong - too entangled in the political that it began to loose its Christian distinctives and became in many ways just an appendage of the RNC. While we may use politics to resolve a moral dilemma in society, we cannot trust it to solve all issues and give blind allegiance to one political party which can be filled wt many moral issues that are contrary to Christian thought. 13. Seven days? Don't get confused wt the creation days. Genesis 5-7 80- 100 years per the Biblical story.
  14. Offseason fatigue Saturday obviously can't get here soon enough
  15. Colossians 1:17English Standard Version (ESV) And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Not leaving deity out (sorry Knapp), Those of us who believe in a creator God, we believe he's placed in motion the forces/laws that govern our universe and that God sustains it. He also gives mankind the responsibility and wisdom to be a good steward. As Knapp, notes above, being a good steward of this good old ship earth means leaving resources for the generations to follow.
  16. Isn't there a ban on this kind of thread
  17. Makes no sense to not give one to a punter who can flip the field and make life easier on the defense. Didn't Jesse Kosch have one back in the day? Alex Henery got a blackshirt. Well deserved, too! : They had to go to the Young Men's section to get one that fit him. Even then they had to pin it in the back. good one. Agreed Foltz should receive a BS
  18. X & Corn - do you see Berine's age as an issue (I know you personally don't but maybe the general election voters may)- 105 or I mean 75 now. I know in 1980 that was raised as an issue and again in 84 against Reagan (who skillfully turned that issue against Mondale in the debate wt his famous line). I know 75 is the new 65 and all of that but do you think it will become an issue?
  19. http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2015-08-31/carson-trump-tie-for-top-spot-in-iowa-monmouth-university-poll Carson now tied wt Trump in Iowa. Maybe the beginning of the Trump fade away
  20. http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2015-08-28/clinton-camp-saying-it-already-secured-one-fifth-the-delegates-needed-for-nomination Clinton's team trying to convince everyone (but especially Biden) that here nomination will be a sure thing.
  21. corn - I agree wt you on this - I'm no fan of the bushes and their New World Order & neocon philosophy is/has been ruinous to this country and esp the middle class. But I do have a problem with you painting the broad brush on all of the other repub candidates. We could go down that road and call all left leaning dems communists/stalinists as you call the conservatives fascists/Nazi.
  22. How so? No. She really doesn't. The GOP (when they aren't whining about a "coronation") desperately wants to make her appear weak by trumpeting every challenger. Nothing is more boring to the political media than a done deal . . . so they're desperately pretending that Hillary is in genuine danger of losing the primary. Think about the motivations behind the hot takes. Any Democratic candidate would leap at the chance to switch places with Hillary, and with good reason. One thing for sure, Carl, you are a true believer. Uncle Joe is about to get into the ring wt Obama's blessing. While Joe is the clown in the race, he will be preferable by many who see Hillary as the liar in the race. Contrast the image - Happy Uncle Joe vs cranky lemon face Aunt Hillary. Either way, when Joe gets in - I suspect the fur and the fake hair will start flying and will hopefully take Trump out of the news - maybe then the repub primary voters can start looking at the other guys.
  23. X - I'm not a Trump supporter but I disagree wt anyone labeling a candidate based on some guy in the crowd. The same is true if Sanders was the speaker and someone yelled out 'communist power' (yes I know socialism isn't communism in the same way conservatism isn't racism - by the way it was mainly southern Dems who were in the old white power organization of the past KKK). I personally don't know of any repub who believes what I have placed in bold in your quote - that again is a broad brush accusation that cannot be substantiated and only distracts from the discussion. Are their repubs who act/believe that way - I'm sure there are. Are their libs who would like to install a Soviet style gov't here - I'm sure there are - but those are all exceptions. Trump has struck a nerve about issues that need to be fixed in the country - that doesn't mean his solutions are correct but just that he gets support because he's willing to talk openly about them. As far as I can tell, he hasn't put forward serious, WORKABLE, solutions to the issues he raises - this is why I believe his star will eventually fade. His supporters, while vocal now, are not the totality of the republican base much less the republican party as a whole. Yes, Trump uses red meat to stir people up - but eventually a more rounded diet will be desired and a more 'conventional' candidate will rise to the top.
