  1. I expect Georgia to win, but the situation is far from hopeless. You still have a chance, an opportunity, to end your season beating a top 10 team that nearly went to the NCG. No, it won't erase Wisconsin, but it will help us in recruiting for the offseason. Nebraska will need Georgia to be a little overconfident, yes. But the name of the game here is "mistake-free". Play Nebraska football the way it's supposed to be played. Limit turnovers. Limit penalties. Clean tackles. Nebraska has a strength that matches well to one of Georgia's weaknesses: Rushing. Nebraska can run the ball very well, something Georgia has struggled with often. We need to strike at that. We need to force Murray to throw the ball. He tends to do such anyways, but, this bodes better for us if we can keep them one-dimensional.
  2. What they need to focus on is turning that 10-3 into an 11-3. Break the 4 loss streak. Take a step forward. Beating Georgia isn't the same as winning the conference, but it would turn this season from a disappointment into a solid step in the right direction. Give you something to build on.
  3. My only goal would be to not get humiliated. Teams that go in with that goal are usually the most likely to get humiliated.
  4. I think he's just meaning that this is a team effort, and mistakes by one individual can lead to a breakdown. What happens if a guy misses a key tackle, or throws an interception? Of course that can mean a touchdown the other way.
  5. It ain't gonna be easy, but these are things Nebraska must do, I feel.
  6. Unless Nebraska makes some major adjustments and improvements, gotta go with Georgia.
  7. As horrible as this all has been, Nebraska still has one final shot at redemption. Take down Georgia. Take down a national title contender. Take down a top 10 team. Okay, if I'm Bo Pelini, first thing is you gotta get the team committed to winning this bowl. I expect him to do such. When South Carolina beat Georgia, they made Georgia lose their cool. Over a hundred yards in penalties. They allowed no turnovers. They choked the run, forcing Georgia to go to the air. They ran it down Georgia's throats. Nebraska is only good at 1 of those 4 things. So here's what Nebraska has to do. 1. Fundamentals. It's time to knock off the discipline problems. Avoid penalties, hold onto the ball, and tackle. Bo needs to drill those 3 things in everyone's heads. Tackle, hold on, play clean. Limit turnovers to 1 or 0, penalties to under 50 yards, and make clean tackles at the legs and Nebraska is playing a competitive ball game. 2. Physicality. I want more hits like Bell's. I don't want injuries, but I want to see some hurting Bulldogs. Make them mad, make them do stupid things. Keep calm and give them some brutal hits. Get the laundry flying in our favor for once. 3. Stop The Run. It's not about Murray's passing that frightens me. It's the run game. We need a defensive renaissance. Study what Wisco did to us, how they stuffed the run game. Our secondary is good enough that they can make some picks if we force Georgia to the air. We can allow some passing success, but not rushing success. 4. Run it right at them. Run the ball. It's time for some classic Husker power football. Utilize Rex on first down to soften up defenses, utilize Abdullah and Heard for those 2nd and long, 3rd and short plays, and Cross on those 1 yard stands. Throw in the occasional play action to keep them honest. Goals: Score 4 to 5 TDs Rushing yards: >250 Passing >150 Turnover margin: -1 or better Penalty yards: favorable margin of 50 Rushing yds allowed: Less than 150 Passing yards allowed: less than 250
  8. Very sad news. Definitely puts it all into perspective.
  9. I still don't get the disdain for Beck. The offense is not the problem right now outside of turnovers, which is something I ascribe to Bo, not Beck. Bo's job should be the fundamentals. Sure Beck's playcalling is questionable at times, but this is a good offense. The problem is defense.
  10. You expect us to all be so excited after last night? Give it a couple weeks.
  11. I'm a senior at the University (should be working on my stupid papers right now, but, football comes first), so I'll give my opinion. From time to time, I meet some of the players in my adventures in the Lincoln bars. Mostly nice guys. I haven't heard one bad word out of them about Pelini, they love him. I do not at all believe Bo has lost the respect of his players. It's like any familial relationship: Just because you get in occasional spats doesn't mean the overall relationship is cold. We only see them during high pressure moments. There is no way Bo's getting fired this year. Nope. There were achievements, whether we like to admit it or not. We won 6 games in a row for the first time since 2001, that means something I think. As unhappy and pessimistic as I have been, I'm not yet at the point where I'm going to call for Bo's head. No. We have seen teams under Bo with great offenses and great defenses. We have yet to see them both in the same season. You take that '09 defense, and pair it with this season's offense? You've got a national title contender right there. We know that Bo can acquire the pieces, the problem is still putting them together. Recruiting's gotta pick up, first of all. Has to. #1 priority after the bowl game. We need to rebuild our walk-on program so that it is developing the offensive and defensive lines we need. I've always felt that the most important positions in a football game are the lines. You can win big games with a mediocre backfield if you have an excellent O-line. You can disrupt any offense if you have a great D-line. Nebraska used that mantra to build a dynasty that lasted from the early 60s to the early 2000s. We've got the skills players. Martinez, Abdullah, Bell, Turner...these guys are great. Our lines are the problem. I still believe in Bo. That belief has been shaken a bit, yes, but I still believe.
  12. Relax, everyone. The more pissed off fans like I will slowly cool our heads, and by kickoff on Jan. 1st, all of us will believe that Nebraska will compete well. This is just how it goes.
  13. Oh, relax. We're just poking fun at the whole situation right now. Just because we're not having high hopes doesn't mean we aren't Husker fans.
  14. Now, now, 84-7? Come on. That's insane. It'll be at least 120 - -14
  15. He's too good in the receiver slot. One of the best players on the team, easily. I know. I was joking Eh, I don't think he would do too bad on defense, honestly.
  16. Actually, sports fanaticism is quite mentally healthy. It's simply a confirmation of the idea of group identity. You identify with a group, you become attached to them, ergo, you participate, mentally, in those games. You experience the same highs and lows they do because you feel like you are one of them. Anger over losses is the way in which we get excited for future victories. We condition ourselves to the losses, expect them, so that when the win happens, we are happy not just for the victory, but for the surprise of it.
  17. It hasn't been covered up. It's still there, visible to all. My bad but, after being on here today we should just cover that up with a tarp or something. While my words may be harsh, I am still a passionate Husker fan who is with them the whole way.
  18. I'm rooting for Nebraska. I would like to see them beat Georgia. But I also must be realistic. I agree with Malth, I get that some of you are playing the "realist" card, but there's a difference between being a realist and bad-mouthing the team. I, for one, think we have a better chance than a lot of people on here seem to think. I'm a realist, but I'm also a fan. GBR!!!! I will be rooting for you guys NO MATTER WHAT!!!! I know that there will be some people that will reply to me and say that they are fans too, but they are just being realistic because of what happened last night and I accept that. Some of those people will also be the first people to say "I told you so" if we take down Georgia. It's not impossible that we beat Georgia. I just see it as highly unlikely. Their offense is too stacked. They will pass and run all over us. Our offense will do a decent job, but, unless the defense undergoes some sort of renaissance, I can't see us beating Georgia.

  20. He's too good in the receiver slot. One of the best players on the team, easily.
  21. Every top 25 team in the nation would be excited to play us considering how we looked last night.
  22. Try again. Down by 2, 3, and 4 touchdowns because of a complete inability by our offensive line to execute our shotgun zone read offense that we've married ourselves to. When a blitz breaks through our line, it doesn't matter whether Taylor makes the right read or not...it's a guaranteed 4-6 yard loss. Then it's 2nd & 15. Series and drive over. Rinse. Repeat. Oregon can run this offense, because their offensive line is incredible. Ours is not. We cannot seem to unlock the great talent potential of our offense in this scheme. It just isn't happening. The defense letting the other team score in 5 plays or less over and over and over again had a hell of a lot more to do with it than anything the offense was, or was not, doing. Offense put up 31 points last night. In my mind, they mostly did their job.
  23. I'm rooting for Nebraska. I would like to see them beat Georgia. But I also must be realistic.
  24. You guys have a pulse on offense. That makes aneurysms for us.
  25. In Osborne's first 5 years, Nebraska finished #7, #7, #9, #7, and #10. Pelini's teams don't even come close.
