  1. In the era of the playoff, the only thing that matters is the W. I hate this type of thinking. People were posting yesterday that it didn't matter because we weren't making the playoff this year anyway. If that was my outlook, I would find it impossible to be a cfb or Husker fan. Sad existence if the only satisfying thing is making the 4 team playoff. Exactly. Plenty of positivity to be had for everybody, should they seek it. If you really think we can fire Bo and hop straight into Riley's system in the first year and go to the playoffs... well, that might be that delusional sect of the fanbase that expects an undefeated season and a championship every year. Losing game one of Riley's tenure to a pretty salty BYU team is not a bad thing. In the non-con, nonetheless. We could still win the Big 10 West. Could you image Bo on those late hits. He would be in the hospital from a heart attach.
  2. #20 was trash talking on the opening kickoff. He hit at least 3 players late. I did not see BYU as being dirty, but #20 should have been ejected on 2 late hits below the knees. The only intent on those hits were to injure!
  3. You would think that the OL could get pumped up enough to push BYU's line back for 1 yard! We lost this game in the trenches!
  4. Really, if we had an OL who could push just a little we win by 2 TDs. OL - I think we have some youngsters coming up, but need to build the pipeline again. DE - We are way too slow. TE & WR - lack of talent.
  5. How does paying a special teams coach make Drew Brown a better kicker in an off season? I keep seeing this on this board, I don't get it. I don't know. . . maybe coaching him to be able to be a better kicker. Oh. Coach the kicker to be a better kicker. Well, I will see if I can pass that along to him. Hey, maybe we can coach all the positions to be better? Now we are on to something. I'm sure nobody has thought if this yet. Wait til' we see the look on their faces when I inform them. "hey coach!, all you gotta do is coach him to be better at doing what he does!". Man, this should be eye opening. Does he get paid to something else? Am I missing something here? What you're missing is you have to have the tools in place and sometimes no amount of coaching is going to fix that. In the return game, you can set up good blocks. That's something a special teams coach can work on. But you can't make the returner dynamic. That's why it's hard to replace a guy like DPE. In the field goal kicking game, you can help make sure the linemen hold their ground so they're not pushed back and the ball gets kicked into their heads. But the kicker needs to be accurate. Imo the hardest thing to coach for a field goal team is the field goal kicker being accurate. A big part of that position involves the psychological make up of the player. This brings up the question, on the 1st field goal was Foltz the holder? No!
  6. Good - We made defensive adjustments at half. BYU had 89 yards thru the 3rd & half way through the 4th quarter. Morgan looks the real deal. Bad - Offensive line Big notice we lack good depth at WR
  7. Madness! Riddle me this. Show me a Quarterback like Taysom Hill, who can shred a pass defense and run like that, on the rest of the schedule. Maybe Brad Kayaa. Anyone else? I don't see it. The only reason BYU was in this game was Hill. If he doesn't play, Mangum doesn't beat us. If we build off this game, we'll win nine games, easy. Build from there next year with better coaching and recruiting, and we're taking a step forward. Keep the faith. This. Exactly. I saw a lot of good today. I saw a lot of bad as well, we definitely have some things to work on. I think the best thing I saw today was the improved tackling. At first I didn't even notice it until it dawned on me that I hadn't seen a missed tackle. Or maybe it was seeing the team fight back from a 24-10 halftime deficit. They didn't give up, I kinda thought they were going to late in the 2nd but they came out playing hard in the 3rd. Looked like to me that our coaches were making positive adjustments throughout the game. Tommy Armstrong has made progress and has adjusted well to the new offense so far. Maliek Collins. I saw an offensive line come alive in the 2nd half and start playing like they meant it. There was some bad things out there today as well, penalties, missed FGs, missed assignments, etc...but there is lots of good there also if you are willing to look. Tommy made some good plays under heat and we could not get 1 yard twice in the 4th quarter. Plain & Simple, our line sucked today. We need to bench a few lineman and play our younger players. Now we will see if these coaches can teach and make them better.
  8. We lack talent. This game was lost because we could not get 1 yard twice in the 4th quarter.
  9. Wife's family is coming through Lincoln at 11. Sorry, but my son & I are gone by noon. ITS HUSKER GAME DAY!
  10. the DL, as long as the new staff teaches them to put their hands up on passes. Time to know down some passes and a BYU's QB!
  11. Agree, but we need a serviceable big man. With the talent we are collecting, we do not need a 4 or 5 start center. It would be nice but not necessary.
  12. This is a 3 star kid, if he does want to be here so be it. This is not a big loss.
  13. No idea how someone who grew up in Nebraska could ever choose to go to Iowa and play for them. Boggles my mind. Omaha kids do not have the same Husker loyalty.
  14. This will not be the first or last Omaha kid we lose. Husker pride is not as deep by the river.
  15. Too bad for Irons as he might have been the guy!
  16. Ryker is #2 & he is terrible. He is a D2 trying to play D1. Did SouthLincoln Husker just reply to himself???? Just adding to why I feel this way. I have been watch him play since HS and have seen very little improvement. The kid has character & grit, but if Tommy gets hurt we have little backup choices. If Ryker is #2, the 2 RFr are not ready to step up yet.
  17. Ryker is #2 & he is terrible. He is a D2 trying to play D1.
  18. Staying Healthy! I know several are down on Tommy, but our backup QBs can not be a 3rd stringer on any other team in the Big Ten! 2 young QBs & a walk-on.
  19. I doubt it. Morgan has proved that he deserves to be on the field as a FR and due to the lack of field time, Hovey will be a head of him on the charts.
  20. I have a friend who played under TO. In order for a walk-on to be eligible for a scholarship, they had to be on the 2 deep depth chart. I have no clue if that was a TO, Athletic Dept. or Univ. rule. What we do know is that all of the above are going to play this year and all deserve it. Congrats for working hard and becoming part of the walk-on tradition at Nebraska!
