  1. It just depends who is in charge. When Trump was doing operation warp speed and was promising a vaccine by the election there were many democrats including our VP, that made comments about not taking a drug that was produced so fast and that was endorsed by Trump. If Trump had won, Dems would have the lower vaccination rates. That said, it makes no sense for Repubs to be openly applauding and advocating to not take it. It is indeed political. Everything is. I have the vaccine on-board, but if someone comes to my door and asks if I have taken it, I will politely tell them it's none of their business. If they persist I will forcefully tell them again. If they still persist I will get my baseball bat. Bottom line is I am pretty sure someone in the government can find out whether I got vaccinated. I am also not going to shame people into taking it. If they are adults, I would suggest they do however.
  2. I wasn’t sure where to post this. Since it’s the Times I put it here. Cubans protesting, and shouting ‘freedom’ and other anti government slogans. Strange way to phrase it. I heard...not sure if true, the Cuban government has now shut down the internet. I wonder if Twitter will complain like they did when African countries shut it down? If anyone finds out, let me know. This could be telling. The New York Times @nytimes Shouting “Freedom” and other anti-government slogans, hundreds of Cubans took to the streets in cities around the country on Sunday to protest food and medicine shortages, in a remarkable eruption of discontent not seen in nearly 30 years.
  3. Yeah I thought those %s were odd. I am not sure it works. I assume multiple choices per person. Point being....Trump is back to being the front runner. That should make you happy. Assuming Biden is not able to run again, Harris will be able to beat Trump.
  4. I just read that the CPAC “who do you want for 2024” straw poll put the Trumpmister at 70%, DeSantis at 21%. No one else came close. Not sure who attended CPAC. Probably those further to the right. Edit: found another article. DeSantis was 21%. Makes more sense.
  5. No embellishment to make a story sound a little better. No denial as a kid to stay out of trouble. No little white lies to spare someone's feelings. No "memory loss" to keep from snitching on a friend. That's impressive. You could never be a politician.
  6. Good point. I lied in surveys and probably many other times in my life. Have you?
  7. Lauren Wolfe, the former freelance editor who was fired by The New York Times over a pro-Biden tweet, defended her open political stance in a recent op-ed titled, "I’m a Biased Journalist and I’m Okay With That." Wolfe was ousted by the Times after she celebrated the arrival of then-President-elect Joe Biden at Joint Base Andrews ahead of his inauguration, writing "I have chills." Published on Friday in Washington Monthly, Wolfe argued that "being fair and having [a] point of view aren't incompatible" and that journalists "shouldn’t have to disguise or suppress their views." They don't suppress them. not sure she should have been fired for this...I mean Chris Mathews got chills up his leg from President Obama and he survived. It took the Me Too movement to get rid of him. The media fawning over a politician is nothing new. Kudos to her coming out and admitting that the media is bias.
  8. Who Trusts surveys? Seems like most are used to push a narrative, from both sides. Unless it’s asking for the NU football win total. They can Phrase the question in a certain way. You need to consider the political motivation of the source. When I answer surveys I totally jack with my answers but make them sound consistent so they take it as valid.
  9. Hurts my feelings? Not in the least. Post away. It makes me chuckle. I don’t really care what Trump says at this point and I usually cringed while he was president because he was a blow hard. If you want to obsess, be my guest, but it seems like it just makes people more miserable. My sister in law does the same thing on Facebook and I wonder why she doesn’t grow tired of it. At least she has some peace now that he is out. There is a reason for term limits.
  10. Wow. Four different threads updated about essentially the same topic and quotes from the latest Trump statements. It’s making my head spin. Good thing they banned him from social media, or this forum would get buried
  11. Didn’t you hear he has a 3 point shot now?
  12. This is nice, but this was big news too... https://www.maizenbrew.com/basketball/2021/7/5/22563787/devante-jones-withdraws-nba-draft-will-arrive-at-michigan-on-monday-night
  13. I probably have less extreme definition of those terms in my head, and possibly incorrect. I am not necessarily equating them with communist or fascist, although those terms get used a lot when describing voters on each side. I just use the term to note the political leanings of the commentators and networks.
  14. I know. I was picking the talking heads that do opinion on their show and seem partisan to me.
  15. Do you think Don Lemon, Tucker Carlson, Brian Setzer, Rachael Madow and Sean Hannity are in the center? None of them are even close.
  16. I used to think so, but they shifted significantly in the last 5 to 10 years and seem to be obsessed with Trump and Fox News. Very disappointing. I remember going to to headline news just to get the 30 minute summary.....repeated for 24 hours. Now they are like reading an OpEd.
  17. This is an good point. How far left or right is relative. As I mentioned, I know people who think Fox News is becoming left of center.
  18. I will admit that I am being flippant with my terminology. I have not watched Newsmax for example, but I would guess they are right of Fox, since I know some former Fox viewers that think Fox is no longer conservative enough. There are probably many news orgs I am not familiar with that are left of MSNBC, and some that are right of Newsmax. I will also admit that I tend to categorize the media as being right and left, or conservative/liberal, and read articles through that filter. It’s because most news articles I read are littered with bias and opinion simply by what they chose to report on and how they frame it. Start reading the same stories from Fox and CNN and you will immediately see what I mean.
  19. It doesn’t undermine what CNN reported in the article, and when I read a similar story on Fox News (the right wing media) they mentioned a provision that CNN didn’t have listed. It often amazes me how these two news orgs have such different spins on the same story. What ever happened to just reporting the facts....all of them. Not just the ones that fit your narrative. I agree that MSNBC is pretty far left, but CNN is catching up.
  20. I bunch of Michigan players joined YOKE. They get paid to play video games with the general public....or rather the general public pays to play video games with the players.
  21. I certainly have used the slippery slope argument before, but so far nothing I have a problem with except maybe broadening the language on caregiver. I certainly do not want Dem or Repub, “get out the vote” volunteers doing it.
  22. I read about the decision. This is an overstatement. What part do you have issue with? I read on CNN (so the left wing media), that they upheld two provisions. 1) Election Day ballots need to be cast in the correct precinct. 2) delivery of someone else’s ballot had to be done by a caregiver, the post office, or an election official. They could make #2 more broad, but it’s not like they said Hispanics can’t vote.
  23. Can schools fork over money to help/educate kids on how to market themselves? Even directly help with the marketing?
  24. Sounds bat $h!t crazy to me. I know people that have told me, ‘this preacher is great you need to listen to him’, and more often than than not, I feel like I walked away from an Amway pyramid scheme pitch. And you don’t have to listen very long to realize it. I often wonder how people are taken in by a person like this, but then again Jim Jones accomplished it. I guess the good thing was that there were very few people in that tent. The bad part is that they seemed enthusiastic.
