  1. Keep in mind that this TV show was a PREVIEW of the Minnesota game. Meaning they hadn't even played Nebraska yet, and Coach seemed unconcerned that he was telling the Huskers exactly what he planned to do to them, as if the Nebraska defense was set in stone. Yeah I noticed that. With the guy who was stepping in for Coach Kill. Seemed pretty easy. Yes, they planned to run if we had 6 in the box, or try to open up the passing game if we put 7 in the box. Pelini likes to win one-on-one matchups up front. That's why we need great DTs and LBs who can tackle. We've had all the above previously. We got beat in our matchups. Not exactly a news flash. Hmmm. That leaves 2 DTs and 2 LBs. What do you do if you don't have great ones? It was Minnesota Gophers. Yes, I'm aware we lost to Minnesota last Saturday. Pelini's focus has been heavily on recruiting this past two seasons......been discussed a lot on this board. We've had too many DTs not pan out the past few years. This current crew of young DTs will hopefully change that. We also need to find the answer at LB. Pelini has a nice history of LBs being tackling machines......we need the next one to step forward.
  2. True.....with the exception of those pesky Pittsburgh Steelers who 1) hang on to coaches and 2) win championships. But yes, most professional sports teams hire the flavor of the year and hope the microwave works.
  3. Why would it be? It's not the issue because he's been consistently getting the 9 or so wins Nebraskans generally expect as the baseline for a reasonable season when you're looking at the record. I'm not saying Bo should be fired. I think he should be kept if he will bring in outside help at the coordinator spots. Those are the changes we need. But if he can't make those changes after this season, then he probably never will, and it's time to start shopping. If Pelini is let go, I'd expect improvement starting year 1 from the next coach since that's exactly what we got from Pelini. The only way to improve is 10 wins including a conference championship. I have no idea what will be done with the coordinators, if anything. What I'd like to see right now.....as in this week.....is to find a possible answer at MLB and a quarterback who will keep the chains moving on offense.
  4. They've done well enough that they are in a dang BCS title game every year in a top 3 conference.... I would give my left nut to see NEB competing like that again........ Oregon has done well in their conference. Recently. They played in the BCS title game once recently and did not win it. Oregon is a good program with not much history that has used their marketing dollars very well. I applaud them. I'm still a Husker. Oregon has played in 4 straight BCS games. DONU hasn't played in one since 2001 and it's the only one they've played in. Like it or not, Oregon is miles ahead of Nebraska. Miles. And we sound like the Notre Dame fans we used to make fun of. The fans that talked about tradition that hadn't produced anything in 20 years. We're becoming those guys. I feel no need to defend Oregon. I'm a Husker. Oregon has done a nice job. Recently. Which is what I wrote above.
  5. If Pelini were to be fired, do you think this would be in the job description for the next coach?
  6. I'm not sure it's permissible to quote from the article that way.....but an admin will need to let you know for certain. I read the article, just thought the response was a weird way for you to try to get your point across.
  7. Article was great and probably more accurate than we wish if Pelini is let go.

  9. My opinion tells me he's just fine at Boise. He has continued a good legacy there since taking over as HC after Hawkins left. A move to another school is more of a career risk for him than staying put is.
  10. I agree with you, though would add from my perspective Eichorst would have little to no margin for error. Firing a successful coach with no infractions is quite the risk.
  11. so, it doesn't snow in Michigan, Ohio or Wisconsin.........next excuse? I'm not sure Michigan's recruiting classes have been as advertised. I don't know many Michigan fans, but the few I do know say Hoke is a better fit for the position than RichRod was. They've said they don't want to see coaching changes. Ohio State has no trouble recruiting or Urban Meyer would not have taken the job. I still like that he called out all the other B10 schools last summer to pick up their recruiting efforts.
  12. I understand you are making your point about Pelini specifically, but the barren trophy case has been that way longer than 6 years. The hardware isn't from 7 years ago.
  13. I get where you are coming from here. It's what a place like Colorado has looked for (more than once), and it's precisely why Minnesota made the Kill hire.
  14. This is just my thought.....but I do think Pelini was being truthful when he indicated there were bigger issues than Martinez. Our offense does need to move the ball better, and I certainly don't understand why Beck went away from Abdullah after the initial success. But Pelini did call out the receivers for their drops. I think the even bigger concern for Pelini right now at this point in the season is our LB play.
  15. With the couple of exceptions, these schools are in California, Florida and Texas. true, but these are low level schools in those states. they aren't taking kids from USC / UCLA, Texas, Florida, FSU etc. those are are kids that NU could and should be able to get Like Newby and Taylor, both of whom NU got?

  17. Pelini is an emotional guy and it's one of the key reasons he was hired.
  18. Agree with all that was said regarding the lackluster effort by the defense. However, it still comes back to Pelini. A) He recruited these players. B) It is his job, for which he is compensated generously, to get these players in the proper frame of mind to be successful. No, he nor his staff can do it for them, but if they have players that don't have the desire and passion to be successful it comes back to recruiting. In my mind, it ALL falls on Pelini's shoulders. Don't like the DC? Who hired him. Don't like the play/attitude of a player? Who recruited him? It's really that simple in my mind. Franky, don't think Pelini has the necessary tools to be a successful head coach at a D1 school. DC? Absolutely! To take this one step further, I wouldn't want to have Shawn Eichorst's job right now. I imagine his inbox is filled with polite, or not so polite "suggestions" regarding the current state of Nebraska football. Of course it comes back to Pelini. The move to the B10 has exposed a real weakness at LB. I'd be surprised if Ross Els gets an hour of sleep at night. The staff is desperately looking to solve the LB situation. In the Minnesota game, the small group I watched the game with commented several times how we had a LB in position to make a TFL and didn't get it done. Regarding Pelini's salary, it's in line with market value for DI head coaches now. There is more than one poster wanting to open up the checkbook even more......and that's fine with me. If Pelini is replaced, I expect better results immediately. Not in year 2. Immediately 10 or more wins and the B10 title. If not, he's gone after his first year. That's perfectly reasonable. Anything else would be stagnant or a regression

  21. It is a very well written piece. Oregon is indeed a prime example of what marketing will do. They have zero national championships, their defense is not among the elite. Yet they've done well enough that Scott Frost's name pops up as much as Nick Saban's on here.
  22. My personal favorite this year is when the coaches got into a shoving match with each other in the middle of a game. It was the South Carolina coaches.
