  1. I can't speak for anyone else, but I never had any delusions about what Wyoming is. Let's also not be delusional about our offense leaving two potential scores off the board due to turnovers.
  2. I would agree. Our DL was a train wreck last season, then Stein's injury totally derailed it. And we were not as athletic as we needed to be at LB.
  3. I'll let Pelini and the staff figure out how to get recruits to come to Nebraska. Recruiting whiffs are a key reason we are where we are now......which is why our front 7 is nearly full of underclassmen. Pelini will get this defense pulled together as the season goes on. He needs to stay on top of recruiting to make sure this doesn't happen again in future years. Man that is way too positive for this crowd. lol......please accept this as my written apology

Yes he did have a bad first few years of recruiting but from the last two classes I think the future looks bright for our recruiting, we have some great talent is the last two classes. It depends on how we finish up the year. I do think that Bo will get this defense together and save the season from turning into a big disaster. I believe that if we get TA and CJax on the field along with changing up the defense we will be fine. Completely agree.

  6. I doubt Pelini is squirming. Pelini has been in football at both the NCAA and NFL ranks. This type of news is old hat for him. If we fire Pelini then we will be set back a ways IMO. We need to bring in a new DC that brings energy and swagger back into our team. Well when we hired Pelini he was one of the best DC why can't HE bring back the swagger and energy? He doesn't use it as much since he calmed down on the sideline so he has some reserves left for the team. Pelini is working on what he needs to, which is recruiting.

  8. Our talent, especially on the defensive line, just picked up this past two years. We whiffed pretty bad in recruiting the two or three years prior to that.
  9. Actually, the coaches were pleasantly surprised at L David's knowledge of the system when he first came to Nebraska. They repeatedly said his natural talent and skillset enabled him to cover up his mental/alignment mistakes. This occurred after his first five game or so They have just as repeatedly WRITTEN about the x's and o's session he had with Eckler when being recruited and how Eckler went to Pelini and said L David understood it.

  11. I wonder if Brady is among the NFL leaders in turnovers? I understand Martinez may be our best option if he's healthy. My disappointment in his play is a bit higher this season since he's a 4 year starter. Two potential scoring opportunities that may have went a long way in putting Wyoming away......and the result is two turnovers. We badly need first down conversions in the 3rd quarter against UCLA.....and we can't get it done.
  12. I think the debate, which certainly has validity, is Martinez makes some of these mistakes in the form of turnovers......even now as a fifth year senior.
  13. Urban was successful at Bowling Green and Utah, not considered by many to be successful progams or in recruting hot beds. The guy, like him or not is a great coach. I for one am happy he is in the B1G I'm not a big Meyer fan, but can't argue with his success. I was a little surprised last summer when he challenged all the other Big 10 teams to recruit better......but it probably needed to be heard. I think Pelini realized it a couple of years ago though.....and has improved in his last couple of classes.
  14. Frank's 1999 Husker team was considered by many (even outside of Nebraska) to have been the best team in the country that year.
  15. Offense caused us plenty of issues by not completing drives to put Wyoming away.......not to mention the inability to get a 3rd down conversion in the 2nd half of UCLA. Great showing by our offense against SDSU. Hope it's here to stay.
  16. It wouldn't hurt if Evans were a better open field tackler. It wouldn't hurt if EVERYBODY was a better tackler.... open field or otherwise. Ain't that the truth.
  17. You and I would simply disagree on this point. So many of those top rated recruiting classes put together by teams like Texas and Notre Dame flopped Texas had won ONE National Title in what the last 50 years? Meanwhile teams like Boise State and Kansas State are lucky to have recruiting classes in the top 50, yet field top 10-15 teams NU under Osborne rarely had top 15 recruiting classes Talent is important So is coaching Agreed. I do think Kansas State goes as their recruiting goes though. They are erratic in the polls over the years. They didn't just lose motivation from last year to this year.....they lost a boat load of talent.
  18. You and I would simply disagree on this point. Not sure if serious. I'm moderately serious.....and I'm ok with being disagreed with on this point. I'll take a team of four star athletes over a team of Rudys.....and I don't focus on the star system, just using that example we understand. And of course I believe coaching is equally as important. Again, I'm totally ok with being disagreed with, but our talent level has been way down. I think Coach Raymond's quote showed a recognition of that by our staff.....thus our last two recruiting classes have been much improved in the areas we needed to step up our talent level.
  19. How do you know I wasn't there when CR said that? You presume things you should not presume. I have no idea if you were there or not. What does that have to do with anything? I'm referring to the content of the quote. You tell people to read quotes from coaches a lot. It presumes they don't know what the coach said, and that's not a wise presumption. Frankly, I couldn't care less what Coach Raymond said about Nebraska vs. South Carolina. That's not the point of my little tirade in the OP. It's about game in, game out effort, respecting themselves and their teammates enough to give maximum effort. Talent has zero, zilch, zip, nada to do with effort. Nothing. Go read the OP again. You'll get it. First, let me apologize. My intent was not to stir you up. And I agree that every player should put forth maximum effort.....but as I've written before, our lesser talented players can put forth all the effort they can, but their lack of talent is going to be exploited by the other team. Every time.
  20. How do you know I wasn't there when CR said that? You presume things you should not presume. I have no idea if you were there or not. What does that have to do with anything? I'm referring to the content of the quote. Maybe I should have said "That's a very telling quote from Coach Raymond".
  21. It wouldn't hurt if Evans were a better open field tackler.
  22. They didn't forget. They are simply not as good as the names above. It's not as simple as that. Wyoming has never had that kind of talent. Neither has SDSU. But both came into our house and played with passion and fire, just like the guys I listed. Talent levels can be thrown out in this discussion. It's about passion, effort, and will. That's the "respect" angle I'm on about. Read the quote from Coach Raymond a couple of posts above this one....the one from lo country. Yes, I'm sure Wyoming and SDSU played with fire.....and it didn't hurt their cause that we are not as talented as we need to be. Talent matters. And it matters in a big way. We're getting there, but the past couple of years, our talent level....especially on defense.....has been way down.
