  1. What the f*ck...this is the most incompetent staff. When we need to throw the ball to save time, they run it twice, and with Newby, not Cross.
  2. My bad...just saw another thread on this topic if someone wants to merge/add this to the othe thread.
  3. Just one week after NU lost big on the road at Purdue, Illinois walked into West Lafayette and shows how its done. The Illini amassed 382 yards rushing against one of the worst rushing defenses in the nation, yet somehow NU wasn't able to run the ball. While I agree that we may have seen a drop off in talent from the prior year, seeing Purdue play NU and Illinois in back to back weeks shows just how poorly our offensive approach is, and how much of an impact the lack of desire to run the ball (by this coaching staff) is having our our wins/losses. NU could have walked away with an easy win if Fyfe is asked to manage the game and let the rushing attack beat Purdue. Illinois does not have superior rushing talent compared to NU.
  4. 1. Langsdorf is the first that needs to go. Our offense has been worse than the defense this year, especially the running game. 2. Banker needs to go to. We need new leaders on both sides of the ball. 3. Read needs to go. Special teams has not been impressive. I would keep Bray and Williams, especially for their recruiting abilities, and get rid of pretty much everyone else. I will guarantee you that Riley will not make ANY of these moves...not one that he initiates.
  5. Ummm....tickets are $40 so they can't give them away? Those two statements don't go together. I'm guessing that was not a literal comment...kind of like they are selling for so little it's like giving them away. I had to lowball my MSU seats to get rid of them. My point is, no reason to exaggerate. Tickets are being sold. They might be below face value which indicates a drop in interest in going. But, that is far from "can't give them away". Student tickets are a bad example to look at. I have purchased single game tickets every year for the last 30 years and I have never even sought after student tickets. The program has done lots of things to make that whole transaction to bothersome to even worry about. There are always other avenues to buy tickets. Almost every game I have gone to over the last 30 years there have been guys on the street corners with big stacks of tickets just trying to get face value. That is all the way up to kickoff and during some of the best years. So, should I say during those years..."Those guys can't even give them away"? My point is, during these times people tend to exaggerate over and over again and then it becomes this false reality. No reason for that. Some may be exaggerating...in my situation, I can speak first hand that the price for what should be the biggest game of the year is going for 1/3 of what I got for Southern Miss and Southern Alabama. I probably lost $500 or $600 in buying season tickets this year. That's not..."the only way to get rid of them is to give them away". I agree, and not sure if that was meant literally or not by whoever said it. I do think this thread brings up a good point that tickets are not selling well this year, and that will likely bleed into season ticket prices and sales next year.

  8. Every year there are hot names, I agree. What I don't understand is why Whittingham would ever consider leaving Utah now. They are leaps and bounds ahead of NU as a program, and he's got the right schemes to compete well in the Pac 12. I don't think these days NU would be a step up in any way for him.
  9. I think you just call the ticket office to see what is available. For the seats I bought, the donation amount the lady paid was $1500 per seat, so $3000 in donations which is crazy.
  10. I can attest to the fact that prices are extremely low. I purchased season tickets off of a lady this season (my first time ever buying season tickets) at what I thought was a discount, and have gone to 3 games and planned to sell the other 4. I can tell you I sold my Southern Miss and Southern Alabama games for nearly 3 times the amount that I just got for my MSU tickets. The Iowa tickets sold for the highest amount a couple weeks ago, and that tells me that Iowa fans will be invading Memorial Stadium. I would not be surprised to see 30% Iowa fans there, and predict it will be the highest opposition attendance at an NU game ever. As for next season, these were not my tickets to begin with, but I imagine the person I bought them from, along with many other season ticket holders, will NOT renew donation fees remain high. Heck, they may have trouble selling season tickets with no donation amount.
  11. We've made offers in the past to top coordinators and coaches. Urban Meyer turned us down in 2003 while he was at Utah and then took the Florida job. His kids also went on social media laughing saying their dad will not be going to Lincoln back in 2007 and Mark Richt even laughed at the idea back then and AGAIN on a radio program after Bo was fired. There's been rumors we've made offers to: Houston Nutt, Bret Bielema, Mike Zimmer, Jim McElwain, Greg Schiano. And reportedly all turned the job down. The job is not as prestigious as you think BUT... out of all rumored candidates in the past, I do not think the athletic department made a lucrative offer to any of them. If we want quality, we gotta pay up. I'd much rather pay for a successful coach who intends to leave in 2-3 years rather than be stuck in the dumps with a bad coach for 4-5 years that is the world we live in now. Other programs have gotten lucky: LSU, Alabama, Michigan State, Stanford, Oklahoma. I agree to disagree with you. We can't just flash money at every coach. There are going to be a lot of jobs open at the end of the year. We have to be smart about the next hire I do agree we need to hire someone who is not only successful at coaching but is a solid recruiter as well and can surround himself with great associates and recruiters. You make valid points. The coaches I'm referring to are guys on the up-and-up, who are looking to take the next step. No way would a guy like Herman or Fuente turn down a $5-million/year offer and opt to stay at Houston or Memphis. That being said, I'm sure there will be others that are courting the two of them when the season is over, so even if we did fire Riley (which I highly doubt), we'd be unlikely to get either one. I agree with both of you, including your initial comments Goat. To me if someone is confident enough in themselves and willing to take a challenge, we could land some good prospects. With Riley getting our program in the ditch, it might actually be more appealing for another coach as the only way to go is up. I'm not buying that we went for McElwain, BB, and others. I think Riley was SE's guy all along, and he really didn't look around much. He was looking for a coach that was the polar opposite of hothead Pelini, and chose a nice guy that doesn't know how to coach. He provided the timeline for his search. Bo was fired on a Sunday morning, Harvey ran into Riley that day or Monday, and things were already moving. If we really were willing to outpay Florida for McElwain we could have gotten him.
  12. I read this article too and found it to be a bit of propaganda. Fans can react however they want. Being a passionate fan draws upon the emotions, and as the passion level increases, so does the emotional response. The reality is that many fans passion is beginning to fade, and that will eventually show in the stadium. If NU wasn't playing two top 10 opponents this month, I would bet the stadium would be very dead, especially if NU was struggling against a team like Rutgers at home.
  13. 2014 Nate Gerry through 9 games: interceptions: 4 tackles: 50 2015 Nate Gerry through 9 games: interceptions: 3 tackles: 50 Why did you start this thread to bag on Nate Gerry? Isn't he playing at almost exactly the same level as last year? Can you post the number of pass attempts against the Huskers thru 9 games in '14 and '15, and also the total number of plays run against the Huskers thru 9 games each season. TIA I have been disappointed in Gerry this season too, both his performance individually and as the leader of the defense. I don't feel he's stepping up to lead his unit. Also, regarding these stats, NU needs playmakers, and I have seen Gerry drop way more INT opportunities this year than last year. Also, how many big pass plays has Gerry allowed to happen in a situation where he was covering. Outside of Davie and Kalu, Gerry seems to be an easy target for opposing QBs.
  14. No one saw this coming. Even the most heated opposition to this hire probably didn't see this. I hated the hire but got on board and was optimistic going into the season. It has become impossible to watch this team for me. It makes me sick to see what is being put on the field as Nebraska football. We don't have time. It's been frittered away for the past 15 years with one bad hire after another. I don't know what the right course is here. We are painted into an awful corner. Fire the coach and make this job even more radioactive then it already is, or allow Riley to hammer in the last few nails in the coffin. This isn't the Texas job. We can't rebound as easily as some of these other programs with built in recruiting I completely agree with you. I was supportive of getting rid of Bo, but not overly excited about Riley but was willing to give it a chance. Even after the first couple close losses he still had me on board. However, seeing the team actually regress as the season has progressed is a sign that their coaching is getting worse, not better. All teams have injuries and that is no excuse. We are in a tough spot, but to me there are two options. 1. Retain Riley and hope things get better. I'm not want for relying on hope though. 2. Fire Riley and do as you say making this job difficult for the next guy. I personally am in favor of #2 unless NU wins the final 3 games and shows signs of life. But before #2 can happen, SE must go. I don't trust him to pick the next coach. I think you probably go with retain and wait for regime change in June. In that scenario you are relying on the hope that Riley won't completely decimate the program in one more year. But, the new regime will certainly take SE out at the first sign of a repeat performance by MR and company. The new AD can then bring in his own guy and it won't look that bad. That's the most likely scenario in my book. I would like to at least see some sort of conciliatory move such as getting rid of Banker and Stewart in the interim though I agree, but what mark must Riley hit in 2016 to keep his job? He's likely to finish 4-8 this season, so should he finished 6-6 in 2016, his defenders will say he's showing signs of improvement. That's the trap you run into. In my mind, he should be told early on what he needs to do in order to keep his job by the end of 2016, assuming he is retained. I think he must go 8-4 or better.

  16. As far as I'm concerned, Gerry can sit on the bench the rest of the year. Right before half, Purdue went deep and Davie had good coverage as they were going down the field and Gerry came over from his spot and hit Davie while he was on the receiver. Luckily the ball was over thrown but it was a bullsh#t move on Gerry. Here's the play that you are talking about: https://vine.co/v/e3igngOqiA3/embed/simple Looks bad... like he's blocking a teammate.... but more likely just took a horrible angle and I will take this moment to point out again...... how the heck do you blame coaching for that kind of play... you can blame them for leaving him on the field.... but if the replacement is way way worse... as a coach.... I have to ask.... what do you do? Seriously.... if that is the best we got... and its not close on the depth chart... then as a coach.... how do you coach around that kind of play? How do you not blame coaching for that type of thing? Seriously, what do you think coaches do besides cash paychecks? You have to be trolling because nobody can be that brain dead. Coaches teach them what to do, it isn't their fault that Gerry takes a bad angle and runs into his teammate. It is up to the players to execute what they are taught. I think it is pretty safe to say that he wasn't taught to run into Williams. First off, you can't see the whole play from that clip. I suspect they had Gerry playing to close to Davie's side, had Gerry looking at the QB, and when he saw the QB throwing, he reacted. Being in the position he was, it caused a collision. So he very well may have done exactly what the coaches taught him to do. Are you suggesting that Gerry did it intentionally or do you think he's just stupid? Yes and he isn't the only one that thinks that. You have to be a dumb SOB to think that the coaches taught and coached him to run into one of his own players. That type of thinking is pure idiotic. Gerry has been perhaps the biggest disappointment this season. He's had 3 or 4 balls thrown right at him where he could have intercepted and he just didn't make the play. He's also given up many TDs or big plays at crucial parts of the game.
  17. Please post the other rankings, please! I am sure there are some that are way in favor of NU. I think 247 is the one that people really like now, I don't know what they have for the rankings, like I said I just looked at Rivals. So, please, post them. I hope you are right and that NU has a great class. I said they would end up with a top 20 class. It just seems like that might not be the case. Thanks! The only way NU ends up in the top 20 is if Riley releases some players and signs a class of 28-30. It won't necessarily be that we are getting the right quality of talent, but the quantity of players could drive up the rankings.
  18. Matty-I was pretty excited for the change from Pelini, and was impressed with the initial recruiting push by Riley and company. But the recruiting trail has run dry, and we are at risk of losing some of our current recruits. Riley was supposed to be good at coaching up players and maximizing their talent, and thus the expectation was that he would have at least a similar record as Pelini, if not better. He's managed to minimize our talent in every aspect of the game, and lose more games before November than any other head coach in NU's history.
  19. Nobody ever stops supporting the players, and it becomes a false choice when presented. It's no different with our troops. It's ok to not support the mission but still support those out fighting. I stand with the players, and hope they do well, but I also stand by my pocketbook and will not pay to attend any more games until there are major leadership changes for the positive.
  20. Sipple sucked up to Bo for WAY too long, but I have to give him credit for writing this piece. I have not seen any other NU journalist call for such a drastic change thus far. Just many complaining and questioning if Riley knows what he's doing. Sipple is looking ahead and realizing that retaining Riley is only delaying the inevitable. With a program change like this, and with a slight dropoff in talent from the prior year, a good coach still manages to win the gimmes (like today), and a good coach would have finished 7-5 or 8-4. A great coach would have gotten to 9 or 10 wins. An average coach 5 or 6 wins. A poor coach 4 or fewer wins, and I'm afraid we may be lucky to get to 4 wins this season.
  21. Thanks...one of the few beneficial posts in this thread.
  22. Stupid Well what exactly is your idea wise guy. Just sitting on here venting at other fans? I guess if that is therapeutic for you, go for it.
  23. So we all know that pressure from boosters usually helps to put heat on the administration, but how do we fans (the little guys) let the board know we are not happy? I'm thinking of a social media petition, an organized protest, or something along those lines, but not really sure what is most effective. And the frustration of NU fans goes well beyond just this season.
  24. For his first start, Fyfe made 2 bad throws, but he looks way better than TA. This game is not the fault of the QB...total team loss.
  25. I thought the same...they've had all the breaks. He is an idiot.
