  1. That is key in building any football team. I don't know why its so hard to do here now, when we produced so many, for so many years in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. Why won't they come here? Thats the question right now. Callahan was a great O-line coach. He developed them and sent some to the NFL. We brought in Raiola with NFL expererience( really to recruit his nephew) nevertheless, should have some respect among HS talent or even transfers. Right now, if I am a Top 100 0-line recruit, I am not liking what I am seeing and won't even visit Lincoln. This is what needs changed. And yes, I think we all know that now the Raiola thing was a hoax to garner ONE QB RECRUIT. This is the problem with Frost. He continues to go after the WOW players or as I see it, the quick fix instead of building this program with hard work and determination and basic football knowledge. He is lazy when it comes down to it.
  2. Recruiting a 5 star player is one thing. Getting them to buy into what your doing is another. We do have talent gaps in this program. Bo could not compete against Wisky, Ohio St and Michigan. Those games show you the talent gap. Sure, most programs don't have Ohio ST's talent. But in order to get above 7-8 wins, you have to have that next caliber player at QB, at WR, and most importantly on your OL and DL. OL and DL is where we are not getting the right recruits. If you have those two elements on your football team, it won't matter who is throwing, running or catching the ball. This is where this program has failed for years now. Callahan at least always had really good OL lineman. He recruited SUH. Pelini had good DL's for the most part. That is the issue with this program right now. If we had a decent DL, we would be 2-0. If we had a decent OL last season, we are no worse than 8-4.
  3. I think that right now with the playoffs being expanded to 12, the whole USC and UCLA thing backfired on the Big 10. They were hoping to cash in on Notre Dame by getting those two schools. Now, Notre Dame will stay independent, with almost a guarantee of a playoff spot each season as long as they are a1 or 2 loss team .
  4. I am just thinking that we are not looking in the right places for this opinionated segment. Realistically. I would take Urban. I don't think Urban will be an option. He once said that Notre Dame was his dream gig. I think ND will give Freeman 2 or 3 years max. With the expanded playoffs now, ND can not afford to fail even one year. They now become almost a lock to reach college playoffs every season now. ND in my opinion becomes a great job once again if not the best job in the country going forward. Saban will be retiring someday, and that lifts the rest of the country into a better place. SEC dominance won't be as big as it is right now. Chadwell might work, but I have watched his teams play some and question if his scheme would do anything against the Big 10 especially when the weather changes to 30-40 degrees with some snow and rain. As for Notre Dame again, they are living large again. They don't need any conference affiliation and yes they are a lock for the playoffs going forward. This is going to become a sought after job once again. Brian Kelly is probably wondering why he went to LSU now. With the playoffs now being at 12, this changes things for some of these jobs. It gives even the New Big 12 some hope, especially if they get Utah and Colorado too. Oregon might now even look at the Big 12 as a lock for the playoffs. Nothing is sacred now. No one knows whats coming next. I would be in favor going back to the Big 12 myself. I think that if they have stability, going forward they have a good chance to remain in the picture. With us, they would definately have a better chance. Thats just my deal. Don't ever see us going back, but right now would be the time to do so if ever. These conference all will make money going forward, and the Big 12 has rights to the BCS money. Thats a different subject for a different day!
  5. Here we go again comparing us to Florida again. Mullins left the cupboard full at Gator U. They competed with Bama each year he was there. Stop with comparing our situation to that of the Gators. I do however like the Dabo comparision, but he was Clemsons OC before and arranged a coup to get the HC job. Ponder this as well. If us as a fanbase are talking about Urbs past history and reputation, what in the world do you think parents and recruits would say about him? High schools coaches? Its one thing to take your baggage to Ohio St and or Florida and still get those prizes, but Nebraska? Give recruits more reason not to come here? Chadwell is Frost. He is coaching at a similiar school, with simiiar plays and players. Haven't we learned that style won't work in the Big 10? Those players are not big enough, strong enough or fast enough for the Big 10. I don't think Chadwell accomplishes any thing here that Frost hasn't. Bob Stoops woudn't come here if he wouldn't go to Florida last year. He was asked. He is the AD in waiting at OU. Already works in the office some. Bill O'brien at Bama. He is the OC now. Former Penn St head guy before Franklin. He took that program out of the Sandusky saga and won right away. HE is the one for a quick turnaround. He now has NFL head coaching experience as well. I would take a chance on that guy first. IF Matt Rhule flopps at the Panthers, he would also be a top prospect. Turned Baylor back into a contender in a short time. There are two names that would have a chance to turn things around, that have done so. NO one thought O'Brien would do what he did at Penn St right after the Sadusky BS.
  6. And currently all of the mens programs are cellar dwellers. This is not on Trev either, but otherwise on Moos and Eichorst. Yes Trev has his hands full with this school. We was left to muddle thru a mess of contracts and allegations from the start. I think Trev is the right guy for this job. I think Frost will get fired if he can not win 6-7 games this season. I don't think that will come until after the season is over however. I have to think that Trev will be testing the waters come end of October. He will be looking for our Next HC. He will not fire Frost mid season because that would seperate an already separated fanbase even more. This has to be done right and with Class. If we sh!t on one of our own by firing them midseason, who will ever want to coach here again?
  7. The true question here is do we improve over the next two weeks on both sides of the ball. Illinois, Purdue, Minnesota, Iowa and Wisky will improve. All of our Division foes get better as the season goes. I personally don't think that Purdue and Illinois are good football teams right now, but will they improve in the next couple of weeks enough to make us look silly when we play? This weeks game is so important for our mental well being(fans and players) just to see some success on either side of the ball. If they could manage to route Georgia Southern and play some backups in the second half I think this goes a long ways in how we show up against OU. If we struggle again, this will leave so much doubt and discontent on the team and in the fanbase I don't see anyway we compete against OU.
  8. Run the dang ball. Yes I think we have to run the ball 60% of the time. We can't pass block well enough to drop back 40 times per game. However, if we shorten our passing game to more screens and quick outs I could live with that in place of the run. Right now we are to downfield oriented in our pass game. I am not a huge Casey fan at this moment. I think he is fine QB, but I also think Adrian is or was a fine QB. I don't know if Casey is a winner, just like Adrian. Texas was I think either 5-7 or 6-6 last season with him starting. Kansas beat them in Austin. He was playing with a bad hand and will give him the benefit. Grant is a fine back. He is improvising right now to get yards. Those outside runs were all his doing. That won't work against OU or most of the Big 10. We have to find ways to get better at running or Defense will eat our lunch just rushing 3 or 4. Northwestern rushed 4 down line players and made us look sad. OU has team speed on D, they might destroy Casey in first quarter if we dn't have some type of running game.
  9. I won't knock him for moving on. I think he made the right choice for himself and Frost. Most pundants of the game say you make your most progress from game 1 to game 2. we will see if Amart gets better next week. Talent level is better at KSU, starting talent and they have more depth at all position. Are they OU or Bama, no. They are a solid squad. Biggest difference is in lines on both sides of the ball.
  10. Watched the game and thought he was a little sluggish in the passing game, but was sharp with zone reads. Helps to have a Heisman candidate at RB and some offensive line play. South Dakota is going to be a really good FCS team. They are way better than what we played yesterday. Looking at KSU schedule they will be lucky to win more than 7 game this season, but offer an Offensive line and a pretty stout D with as always a great special teams game. Solid team around AMart. I won't be surprised to see him have a monster game when its needed. Both running the ball and passing, K-State has some weapons and he has been coached up alot already, you could see it in his play. Sliding after picking up a first down, and not throwing into alot of coverages. His fumble came on a blindside sack from a delayed corner blitz, and most QB's would have as well.
  11. Again we can not compare ourselves to Florida. They have athletes. Who knows if Napier could come here and do that with our roster. Its time to stop comparing our team to others like Florida. Florida has some dudes and they were there before Napier. This team almost beat Alabama multiple times under Mullin. With that being said, right now we do have some pieces in place, but no interior linemen. We have enough though that if we brought in the right guy, surely we could find some linemen. I truly think we are 4 players away from being a 7-8 win football team if coached right. 2 offensive line players and about 2 defensive line players away from being at least respectable and a bowl team.
  12. I think I would try Mickey after Oct 1 and just see how this team responds. That gives you a solid month in a half to monitor his ability. If by some chance he doesn't fit the part, you know he would leave at that point, you have to find "the guy". We don't know if thats Meyer or Herman, but its going to have to be someone with some experience. Frost has sabotaged his own career at this point. The one fundamental that is key football is having interior linemen. That is the biggest key. Yet in year 5 we still do not have NFL caliber lines. It only takes a couple of dudes up front on both sides of the ball to have some sort of stability. Frost himself should know that because he was a beneficiary of that. Without the line he played behind, he wouldn't have ever had any claim to fame here to start with.
  13. Ameer and Grant are similiar style of runners. Without Grant yesterday would have been mind numbing loss. That guy produced a win by running away from our terrible O-line. We lack fire because we have a lame duck coach who can't get out of the way and let his assistants do their job. Big 10 West is terrible, but Wsky did win, Iowa did win, and Minnesota looks like the team to beat in this wreck of a division thus far.
  14. Just find a coach who can motivate a team to play hard to 60 minutes. I don't care who that guy is right now. I can tell you that I think there are several coaches out there that could get more out of this team and program. I don't know who or how many want this job. Past hirings tell me that not many want this gig. Have we tried to go and get the elite, who really knows. Again, find a guy who can motivate his team to play hard and utilize the talent we do have.
  15. What I learned is nothing new as well. I watched a coach who can't stay out of the way. He obviously was told to hire an offensive coordinator. He can't get out of his own way. At this point let your coaches, coach the team and just run the team as a CEO. Trev must have demanded that Frosty turn over the offense to someone else. Also its really obvious that we couldn't find anyone else last season to come here. This is a lame duck season for Frost, and he is coaching like he already knew that entering. We don't have consistent line play on either side of the ball. Casey is a fine QB, but he also makes some questionable decisions. Grant is good RB who recognizes that he has to run outside because we can not block. Those runs were all him today. They won't work against OU or the majority of the Big 10, but were good enough to win today. Confidence meter is very low right now that we win 3 games this season. I think we will win 3 to 5 games this season because I don't know if Purdue is really any better than we are and I don't know about Indiana or Rutgers as of right now. Illinois is not looking like a real powerhouse but if they run the ball efficiently they might run on our d all day long. So even though I could see a path of us winning 6, thats it. We won't win more than 6. Right now I would lay money on the under of 6.
  16. I will mention one thing that really shouldn't matter, but I think it does a little bit. We do have a new O-line coach, and new OC on offense, and a new QB. Things are looking like that at times. We look out of sorts and lost. Its the Defense that really has me concerned. I can live with the offense having some moments of chaos. Our defense should be reliable enough to allow our offense to have some growing pains.
  17. WE are so far from having a Big 10 O -lline or D-line. For that matters Power 5. Right now, I don't know if we win a Big 10 game all year!
  18. On another foot, we miss Adrian way more than he misses us! He could alone beat this team with his legs.
  19. Were so far from being a serious football team, who would want this gig. Really? We are talent challenged on both sides of the ball. NO depth. No lines. We need a complete makeover. I would settle for anyone right now. ANYONE
  20. Go ahead and load the suitcase of cash for Urban, and still he won't come here. We are to far gone at this point and have no relevance in modern football. Like I said, he is a good to great coach, but he has also coached at schools where talent is abundant.
  21. Tom Herman would be an upgrade, but he rubbs his assistants the wrong way. Hard guy to work for, and play for. With that being said, he reminds me of Bo a little bit and I think we need that again to some degree. Not the rude BS, but a tough SOB whose players all love him no matter. Coastal Carolina coach might be ok, but reminds me of Frost with his gimmicky offense. I think by now we can see that to win in the Big 10 we have to be physical and uppercut the oppenents. No more dancing. Power Football. Choices are limited, but I think they are out there. I would love Troy Calhoun. Recruit to that kind of offense and tweak it some with some passing, but when ever they play a big time program, they come close to winning with there roster. It has its place yet.
  22. Would you rather play in Lincoln Nebraska or Tempe Arizona? Would you rather recruit players to Lincoln or Tempe? Right now Arizona St would be much more attractive in all areas. Golfing weather, recruiting, living, and Herm Edwards even has this team winning some games. Plus, no pressure to win 10 games! The one constant here is our fanbase wanting 10 wins. We better understand that we need to win 6-7 games a season first, then maybe we get 8-9 wins and be happy with that. Dn't get me wrong, we all want relevance and wins again, but baby steps first. WIth Nil and the portal, I think most of us would rather take a chance on Tempe, ARizona. Realisticallly, Urban can most likely name his school, and Nebraska just doesn't seem high on the radar. Don't forget, NOtre Dame is the one job he has always said he coveted. I think he will wait and see what happens there in a first year coaches fate, with him waiting in the wings. Notre Dame hired Lou Holtz, when he had a checkered past........I his past has no relelvance on how I view him. Great coach, but also took over great programs who had hot bed recruiting in state. He would have to work at here, and I don't see any money that would lead him to try this. Arizona St, yeah. Texas, California, and Arizona have great amount of talent and he could get them without much time spent.
  23. What did we learn? Still haven't figured out that we need to recruit lineman, both sides. Recruit/receive all the WR's and Qb's you want, if no line, they can't produce. Why do each and every running back, since Ameer, just run straight up the middle, into 8 guys in a pile? Why. This has just caused me fits for so long. Seriously, watch our rb's and watch how they would rather run the ball into a pile up than make a jump cut or side step and find a hole. All Frost has recruited thus far are straight line runners. In a short one game report card this team is worse than last years, maybe worse than the year before. They have no defense stoppers. They have no QB/zone read. We have no threats to beat you in a 4 quarter game. We can beat you for 2 quarters, but not the full 4. Seen this before? Not impressed with this so called portal inquired talent. Don't see any real difference makers on either side of the ball. Same things were said last year at this time. We just lost to maybe the 10th best team in the Big 10. We still have Iowa, Wisky, Minny, Purdue and Illini left for west div games. We will lose 3 out of 4 for sure. Michigan, Rutgers and Indiana? Will lose 2 out of those 3. I am seeing 4-8 at best.
  24. Just to play along with the thread- I would consider Chris Kleinman at K-State. Good football coach. Good interviewer. Class act each and every time whether winning or losing. He has done a decent job of recruiting and developing players at KSU. With the Big 12 in no mans land, he is the one guy I would take a hard leap at, and promise you that we don't lose one score games on coaching issues and ETC. They are a hard nosed football team, who line up and beat you up front. This guy also beat OU two straight years and should have last year if not for a kickoff return. When was the last time we had a coach beat OU two straight years?
  25. Forget Urban Meyer. That clown doesn't do the hard work to recruit. He does seem lucky in finding great assistants who do carry that torch and do recruit- Ohio St and Florida. Utah hasn't missed a beat really without him. He is a good coach, but has had extremely talented players at every stop. Face it, all the current, winning coaches, have huge buyout clauses. They can get fired, and sit out , work at ESPN, FOX or CBS for a few years while getting $$$$$$ from buyouts and wait for the right gig to open up. We are not that gig right now. NIL and the portal have also mucked up the process that even proven winners are not sure how much longer to stay in the race. Saban will retire soon. Lincoln Riley is eventually going NFL. Chip Kelly- has alot of money already. I am sure that someone who does have that mega EGO is out there, but who that person is right now is unidentifiable. I think each and every year that this conversation happens that we could get who ever to coach this roster and this once so tradition rich program to winning at least 7-8 wins a season. With the money in college football, those who are proven are staying away from area. Why? Simple- Its a tough sell. We don't have an identity. So each time I see these coaching names appear on these threads I laugh. First off, as I stated, the buyout clause and contracts are so huge that these coaches don't need our money. This job is tough and recruiting is tougher since NIL and portal. Would you rather work at ESPN, collect your contract money and wait for that next great opening to happen or come to Nebraska, lose money, and be miserable losing recruits and games?
